How many nights will you be staying?†An elder man asked him and Joshua simply gave him the appropriate amount for one night. The man raised an eyebrow at him, but took the money and gave him a key.
He stepped back outside and went to his room. Joshua had decided against returning home or even his shop. He wanted to sleep somewhere unfamiliar and so he had rented a motel room.
The room looked clean... but Joshua could smell the countless people who had stayed here before. He closed the door behind him and tossed his coat and keys onto the single bed.
He then turned on the television and left to take a shower. His own home held no television, but he was not ignorant to technology he merely disliked it. But he wanted the background noise...
Joshua rid himself of all his clothes and stepped into the shower. The hot water cascaded down his body... and helped dull his overpowering scent.
He paused and looked to white bar of soap...but he wouldn’t allow himself to think of anything... He merely stared... and then proceeded to wash his body. Joshua exhaled slowly as the cheap fragrance stung his nose, but it would distract him from any unpleasant scents in his room.
When he was finished, he simply dressed and then watched the television. There were noises all around him from different rooms, but the voices were muffled...
Joshua didn’t care what he was watching... he just needed something to keep his mind preoccupied. The sun began to rise outside, but he never slept...
He remained awake... watching useless channels that meant nothing to him. But they kept him from sleeping... or losing himself to his thoughts...
Joshua could feel a light form of exhaustion washing over him, but he kept himself stationed on that bed... staring blankly at the television...
But his pupils dilated somewhat when he passed a channel that showed a White-tailed deer. He immediately changed the channel back and stared at the creature intently. The show went into full detail of the brown animal... and Joshua... found himself relaxing...
He turned the show up and rested comfortably against his bed... listening and learning about this creature. Joshua had never known that he had such a liking in this animal... but he instantly recognized the feeling and allowed it to consume him...
