Where Am I?

It was a big lounge, and it made him look even smaller.

Alfredo sat meekly on a couch with his knees tucked into his chest, his nose twitching as he turned the key over in his hands. They’d told him his dorm was… somewhere. Some big number that he couldn’t remember.

It was apparently written on the key, but no matter how hard he squinted at it, it remained a vague brown blur. Not that he could read, anyways.

It was a very big room, and it made him nervous. He calmed himself down by sorting things. The room had been a bit disorganized when he came in, but the garbage from whatever party or other had happened before had all been tucked away into the garbage can, and the leftover snacks had been separated into their different kinds and colours. The carpet under his feet, which had previously had some manner of quilting pattern on it, now had neat rows of blue, purple and green fibres.

He huffed softly and frowned, trying to calm himself down.

<div align=center>Bill was only really passing through, but the state of the student lounge near enough gave him a heart attack. Mess. Everywhere. He tensed up and whimpered, clutching whatever folders he was holding close to his chest. The less time spent in here, the better. Though, as he passed through, he stopped as he neared the far end. Something wasn't right. The boy whirled around. Whatever mess had just been there... Wasn't. And was it his imagination, or had the carpet changed? He blinked, confused. "W... What?" He shook his head, maybe this is it and I've gone crazy for real this time.

No. There was a boy perched on the couch. Had that happened on it's own? Or was that down to him. William's mouth turned downwards at the corners, a perplexed frown crossing his effeminate features. "D.. Did you do that?" He asked softly, voice only just breaching a level above a whisper. He hunched his shoulders at the wall of nerves that hit him as he shuffled a little closer to the boy, he could already feel sweat beading on his forehead. He'd never seen this kid before, though judging by the way he looked William thought he was probably younger than himself.

His eyes flickered up to the set of bunny ears atop his head, and his face lit up. "Oh, you're a bunny!"</div>

His ear twitched at a whisper. Probably. Probably not meant for him. It probably had absolutely nothing to do with him, he didn’t do anything interesti – “Yeep!” Alfredo jolted, then patted his ears nervously. “Um. Well, I – I’m a Holland Lop, actually.” And then he straightened up. “One of the best breeds around, really. And, you – “ So the boy had been referring to him. “Of course I had to – did you see it? It was a mess! I don’t – I don’t even understand how anyone could have – it was awful – ” As he gave a distressed look to the taller boy, the carpet under him shifted again, this time to a pattern of squares. “Do you know who did it? And – do you know how to read?” He pushed his key forward on the table.

<div align=center>William giggled at the mention of Holland Lop. He had an overwhelming desire to touch, but his social boundaries were telling him that was a bad idea, no matter how inexperienced he was. "I wish I had ears like that... Don't you get a lot of water in them when you shower, though?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. That'd be fun to have a set of ears, he imagined they were awfully soft to touch, in his experience of rabbits, anyhow. He'd much rather have rabbit ears than telepathy, it seemed like much less of a hassle.

William grimaced at the mention of the mess and nodded enthusiastically, "I.. I can't understand how people can deal with it.." If Alfredo had seen William's dorm room he would have quickly learned that it was spotless. OCD might have been an understatement. Can you read? William nodded again, bounding over and perching himself next to Alfredo. "Is it this?" He asked, making a grab for the key and studying it carefully. He thought it was a little strange how the boy couldn't read, but he wasn't about to question him on it- he felt that would be awfully rude.

He carefully read the number on the tag out, as well as the floor, before smiling brightly and passing the key back to Alfredo. "I hope that helped... I'm William, by the way... I haven't seen you before."</div>

“Showers, um…” He hadn’t had a shower yet, not like this. He wasn’t sure how showers worked, really. He didn’t know why sometimes the water was on and sometimes it was off. And now nobody was going to help him with it, would they? He suddenly felt rather intimidated. “I guess I might, huh… I’ll just have to wipe them really carefully!”

Alfredo nodded back at the boy’s response. “It seems most people aren’t as neat as us.” He crossed his arms fretfully, and jolted a bit when the other boy sat next to him. “Yeah.” He made sure to keep the number in mind this time.

“That, um... actually, I’m not sure how exactly I’m supposed to find it…” He’d never been in a building with so many rooms before, and he frowned slightly. “But I – I’m sure I’ll manage eventually!” He took the key back and then toyed with it thoughtfully. “Wait – was I supposed to have met you?” He bit his lip. “I don’t really know what I’m supposed to be doing yet. I just got sent here, and they said they would explain more about school in the morning…” He pulled on his ears and shook his head. “I don’t know what school is supposed to be!”

<div align=center>William nodded, he supposed that was the logical way around it really. He'd really rather only have baths, showers were stressful, without Gabriel they were, at least, although with him they tended to turn into plain dangerous. Baths were much easier, though not many of the dorms had them. Gabriel had a bath, though Bill was the only one that really used it, his boyfriend favored showers for some unknown reason. Strange. He nodded, frowning a little when Alfredo pointed out that there weren't many as neat as they were. It was true. He could barely go into someone else's dorm without desperately wanting to scrub everything.

"I don't see why not," he glanced sideways to Alfredo, "it's much nicer to be tidy... You know where everything is all the time." Especially when you were as meticulous as William was, he was all too anal about things being in the right place. He panicked when he couldn't find something, since usually that thing was important.

"Oh! I can help you... If you like." He offered, William was helpful enough despite being altogether very shy. It was easier if he clicked with someone though, this boy wasn't scary. How could anyone with bunny ears be scary? Besides, William was a good judge of character, mainly due to the fact he could feel it more often than not. He couldn't sense auras or personalities, but he could get emotions down well, and it was easy to tell what someone was like by the way they were feeling, he found. "And.. Oh! I.. I don't think so..." He blinked when asked if they were supposed to have met, he flinched when the boy tugged at his ears. "Well.. I guess it's for..." He frowned, trying to choose the right word, "people that are a little different to everyone else... Like me.. And you I suppose."</div>

“Yes, exactly! It’s so awful when things are in the wrong place, isn’t it? It gets kind of stressful sometimes, choosing what organizational system to use – but ‘none’ is never the answer!”

Alfredo nodded eagerly at the offer to help. “That would make things much easier. I don’t really know how to tell the doors apart, they all look the same…” He sighed quietly.

“School is for different people?” Alfredo mulled over this. “Really? You don’t seem very different to me. And I…” He frowned nervously. “I guess I haven’t really figured out what ‘everyone else’ is supposed to be like yet… I mean, I haven’t exactly met two people who were similar yet, so I don’t really have a ‘normal’ to think about…”

<div align=center>William was happy to find someone else that thought the same way as he did. He nodded enthusiastically, "yeah... I don't like it when I can't find things." He didn't mind helping Alfredo find his room, he didn't have anything important to do, classes were done for the day and Gabriel could wait a little while. Besides, he most likely hadn't even finished his own classes yet. The doors did all look the same, maybe William could think of something so Alfredo wouldn't forget what room was his. He could tie something to the door, or stick something on it.

William nodded, and smiled a little when told he didn't seem all that different. "Thank you," he murmured, "people don't tell me that very often." He supposed different had been the wrong word to use, "special kids, then." He corrected, "see... We can do stuff that no one else can do." He paused for a moment, trying to think of how to explain it. "See... I can hear what people are thinking... As if they were talking aloud to me." He told him, "back at home I didn't know anyone that could do that.."

Alfredo was right though, what was normal? No one was alike anyone else. Therefore, was everyone normal? Or no one normal. William didn't know the answer to that, it'd likely be something he'd have to ask someone else. </div>

“Thanks lots,” he said, nodding and getting to his feet. “I — a lot of the things in the school are marked only by numbers, so it’s really hard for me…” He fidgeted unhappily. “At least, everyone says they’re marked by numbers. I can’t see much of anything at that distance.”

“Special…” He supposed that sounded right. After all, he hadn’t met anyone else who could… neaten things quite like this. Not as efficiently. But William’s abilities sounded so much cooler!

Eh, you can hear this?! H-hello! Hello – wow, that’s really interesting!

Did he catch that? Was that caught? Alfredo couldn’t help but be a little excited. He’d never met a guy who could hear thoughts before.

Um… are we going now? Are we going to find my room?

<div align=center>William felt for the boy, he'd been able to read for as long as he could remember. It must be confusing not being able to understand words on a page, or looking at numbers. Perhaps he could help him, if he could at least teach Alfredo to read numbers that would help by some amount, right? He weighed out the idea in his head, he'd never really taught anyone anything, but teaching someone numbers wouldn't be all that difficult, surely. "Hey... I... You don't have to... But... I can help you learn to read them, if you like? Even... Even just the numbers."

William started a little as he heard the boy's voice in his head, and giggled softly. Yeah! I can hear you! He returned, tilting his head and beaming at the rabbit-boy. He felt the boy's wave of excitement, a tingly sort of feeling that made him laugh. It was nice to be able to feel good feelings coming from someone, though he cursed those powers around crowds. It was strange feeling a hundred emotions at the same time. It made William feel unpleasant. The boy nodded at the next question, yeah! We can go find it if you like.</div>
