Oriented towards detail, Connie noticed that Chiffon’s smile had wavered a bit when the question ricocheted back to her. Their nostalgia clearly stemmed from different places, and while it was for times past for Connie, it was for things that never came to be for Chiffon.
Connie listened as Chiffon spoke her truth of the place they both called home, and how she wanted something she never got. She learned the hard way how life could be cruel, even in a place that promised eternal joy.
The clown looked to her shoes. Even as someone who professionally had to tell people the hard truth, she struggled to relay what she truly wanted to say in an empathetic matter. After mulling over her words for a few moments, she looked back up.
”I’m… Truly sorry that’s how you grew up. I wish I could have given you what I was offered. You clearly deserved it more.” The sad thing was, she couldn’t do that. She remembered the snide comments her father would make when passing a mime on the street, or how her mother would pull her closer at the grocery store when a mime was just minding their own business a few feet away. It didn’t make sense to her at the time, and it was… Vile, to her.
”No no, don’t apologize. Your perspective is important.” But, with that wAs a glimmer of hope. ”Yeah… Yeah! Exactly. You’re free to do what you want. A fresh start, right? You’re free.” She smiled into her heart-dimpled cheek. ”So… Have you done anything here yet? The amusement park, I mean.”
