Her face was blank of emotion, and she struggled to bring back something, anything. Pasting what she hoped was a smile on her face, Ania shrugged. "Oh, it's no big deal. It happened a long time ago anyway. " Despite her words, Ania clutched Hadrian's hand tighter and allowed herself to be brought closer, leaning into his warmth. A true smile appeared when he apologised once more. It hadn't been his fault, and he still apologised. It was funny, to see peoples reactions to her history. They usually ranged from desperate pity to wild optimism, and each reaction had it's own set of amusing facial expressions to match.
"It's not your fault, you don't need to apologise. It happened so long ago, I -" Well, she couldn't say she forgot. She had anything but forgotten, with it coming back to haunt her every other night. "It doesn't matter. I suppose the friends I've made became my family." In a way, being able to pick your family was nice. Unfortunately, friends were a shaky replacement for something that was meant to be permanent. Friends came and went, got busy or stopped caring. It was a temporary fix to a long term problem. "It's nice, in a way. I can choose to love whoever I want."
