Blinking quite rapidly, Ania wasn't quite sure what to make of a tiger as a pet. She supposed it would get a bit messy, if you had to find big animals to feed it all the time. "A tiger? What's his name? I've never heard of anyone having a whole tiger." Ania was very impressed by his pet; she hadn't thought that you could have a tiger. 'Quite a lot' seemed to be a rough estimate, and so Ania's mind settled on a number somewhere in the millions. That was quite a lot, wasn't it? More than enough for a stuffed animals room. That was also rather impressive, and she couldn't help but look at him with newfound wonder. "Yesss, I love stuffed stuffed animals~!" The idea of 'quite a lot' had excited her, but she pushed it down, not wanting to seem too excited about toys. "Ah, they're okay, I mean. Child stuff, nothing important."

Unfortunately, Ania was a terrible liar, and she just couldn't contain herself anymore. "But! They're really cool! Stuffed animals are soft and they can't speak or be rotten and you can give them names and personalities and they're friends." Stuffed animals had always been her friend, ever since she was a child. She loved her little friends, and never forgot a single name. She felt bad for the animals that were lost or destroyed by cruel or thoughtless people. "Oh! What's your favourite colour? Or favourite food. List all of your favourites!"

<div align=center>"Altair." Hadrian answered, "I've had him since I was little..." The animal had been so tiny and helpless when he'd been given him, now he could probably rip off your arm as soon as look at you. As if he ever would. Hadrian had a few toys still, but not all that many, his mother had forced him to get rid of most of them when he had been fifteen. He hadn't been happy about it at all, but she had yelled at him and told him he didn't need toys at his age. Wonder where they all went. He rather hoped she'd given them to an orphanage or something, they needed toys more than he did. "I'd probably play with toys if I still had them all. I still have a little lion I had as a child... He's my favourite..." The lion sat in between his pillows on his bed.

Ania was right, they would never yell at you or be mean, he supposed real animals were like that too, though you couldn't be bitten by one that wasn't real. "All my favorites?" He asked with a laugh, "well, my favourite colour is orange, my favourite food is sushi..." What other favorites did he have? He didn't know. "I like to draw, and paint... Not sure if I'm all that good, though."</div>

Altair was a pretty name. It sounded more like the name for a temple or something holy, though. It shocked her, when she discovered that he only had a lion. Well, at least he at least had a special one. Her nose wrinkled up, she wasn't too sure about the sushi. Didn't it stink? Or taste like bad fish? "Sushi? I've never had it. Doesn't it smell funny?" She had always thought it looked a little too limp for her tastes. It didn't even look good. "I'm sure you're a wonderful artist! Perhaps one day you can have a gallery! Or a whole workshop filled with pencils and paints and .. stuff !" A gallery sounded very nice, a great big room full of art supplies.

"How long have you been drawing?" She was envious of those that were artistic, especially if they could paint. She had never really gotten the hang of it, and she turned to baking instead. People didn't ask you to draw masterpieces on their cupcakes, usually. "Teach me how to paint one day." Turning, Ania squeezed Hadrian around his waist, watching him expectantly. "Teach meee. I want to learn your secrets."

<div align=center>Hadrian shook his head, "not really... It's good." He chirped, smiling at her, "that and uh, instant ramen... They're all I really eat.." You could buy sushi in a packet from stores, and you didn't have to do much to ramen to cook it. If there was one thing that Hadrian was terrible at, it was cooking. He had no idea how to work his way around an oven and he usually struggled to remember any recipes given to him. "I gave up on real cooking a long, long time ago." He didn't think he'd be able to be taught now, he'd never even been introduced to the world of cooking.

He'd forgotten how long he'd been drawing, in all honesty. "I suppose... About.." It took him a moment or two to do the math, "since I was eight, so... Eleven years I think that is." He confirmed, giving a little nod. "I can teach you how to paint, if you'd like." He told her, "it takes a bit of practice to get it right, though." It had taken him a while to get as good as he was, though there were still even those that were much much better than him, he didn't think he was all that good at all. He liked painting though, it was fun if it went well.</div>

Ania didn't think she could stomach the thought of eating sushi. Wasn't that cannibalism for her? She felt bad just watching people eat caviar; she wondered how she would do to see someone eating a little red fish. Making a face, Ania wondered if that was all he ever ate. No wonder he was so thin, he didn't get to eat properly! It pleased her greatly when he agreed to teach her how to paint; that would be interesting, to both learn and watch someone else do it. To be able to paint was a beautiful skill, especially if it was done well. "I'll practice lots! I want to be a good painter, too." Something caught her eye, and she turned curiously, looking at a small purple spot in the dirt.

Hurrying over to the thing, Ania bent to get a closer view of it. It was a dull colour, a mixture of purple and grey. Scooping it up, she polished the dirt off to reveal a brighter set of colours that swirled across it. It was a very pretty prize, and Ania was delighted to find it. "Look! Isn't it pretty? I wonder what kind of stone this is!"

<div align=center>"I'd eat other things but uh..." He paused, nervous laughter escaping him, "I have absolutely no idea how to cook." He was more or less an adult, he should have learned by now, perhaps. Hadrian tended to eat things he didn't really have to do anything to first, his diet wasn't really all that varied. He'd never really taught anyone anything, though he supposed he couldn't be all that bad at it, he could bring Ania to his house and let her use a couple of canvases, he had enough of them to spare. "Do you do anything like that?" He asked, "hobbies, I mean."

Hadrian stopped when Ania turned around, tilting his head and turning around to look at what she had found, "hm?" He shuffled over to look at the little stone in her hands. It was pretty, but he couldn't have told her what it was. "Oh it's pretty." Ania could probably find out what it was back at home, though even if it turned out to be something not all that exciting, it was still pretty. "We can see what it is at home, if you like?" He asked, pushing her hand up a little way toward his face so he could see it better.</div>

"You don't ... know how to cook..." This sentence absolutely baffled Ania. What type of person didn't know how to cook? Maybe he was that type that burned everything he touched. That wouldn't do at all. "I like to bake, mostly. I cook sometimes but I prefer making sweets." She hadn't practiced making normal food very much, but she supposed she was a fair hand at it. Chicken and rice was the easiest to do, just boil and toss a few spices in there. "It is pretty, isn't it? I wonder what they'll tell us it is." She hadn't ever seen anything like it before, not naturally, anyway.

"Do you have any siblings? What is your family like?" Ania liked learning about families, and how they were supposed to act. She hadn't gotten a very good viewpoint on how families were typically supposed to function, and it was very interesting to hear about different dynamics of different families. "I think it would be neat to have a big family. Lots of love surrounding you."

<div align=center>Hadrian frowned a little and blushed, shaking his head. He'd been more or less completely cared for during his time at home, he'd never had a need to cook anything. His nanny had done everything for him. He was horribly ashamed of that fact, he wasn't very independent. "Maybe you could... Teach me?" He laughed softly, that was fair, right? She could teach him to cook in return for painting lessons. He didn't really know how to bake much, either. This is embarrassing. He smiled sheepishly, "it is pretty." He agreed, "put it somewhere safe." He told her, "don't lose it."

"Oh uh, no siblings." Hadrian replied, he didn't really know what to say about his family, there wasn't really all that much to say. "I wasn't really raised by my parents... They were busy a lot, I had a nanny who looked after me." He nodded, running a hand through his hair, "I think they got me Altair as a substitute." He laughed, he would have liked to have a big family, he'd only really met his grandparents very briefly, and he thought his father had a brother that he didn't get along with very well, but that was it, that was more or less all he knew of. "What about you?"</div>

Ania smiled a bit, uncertain of swapping a lesson for a lesson. She wasn't used to sharing her secrets with others, especially baking secrets. But, if he was kind enough to teach her how to paint, then she could probably teach him a few easy meals to create. "Yes, lesson for a lesson." Looking around for a pocket, Ania rustled around the endless folds of cloth before giving up. It appeared that the Romans hadn't thought women would have things they might want to pocket. Looking uncertain for a moment, Ania stuffed her hand down the front of her stola and tucked it into her bra. It was sure to be safer in there, though she wouldn't tell anyone where it had been when she handed it over for examination. "A nanny?" She had never met anyone with a nanny. Ania had only read old stories that described nursemaids and nannies. Even having a tiger as a replacement parent was less odd than having a nanny.

"Ah... I had a uh, different childhood, I suppose you could say." Wrapping her arms around her torso, Ania frowned, wondering how to word it or if she should just leave it at 'different'. "I never knew my father. My mother didn't like talking about him. We roamed from shelter to shelter until she died." She didn't quite want to scare him off just yet, and held back the rest of the details. Forcing a note of lightheartedness in her tone, Ania smiled uncertainly. "And now I'm here, I suppose."

<div align=center>Hadrian nodded, "I guess my family were rich enough to afford one..." He couldn't remember her name, but she had been a nice woman, a little slow, but she had looked after him well. "I don't remember her very well, I'm afraid." He laughed as she struggled to hide the little stone, and laughed even harder when she decided where to hide it. Hadie was pleased when she agreed to teach him, he only really needed to learn a few things, like how to work the oven for a start. There were so many dials and buttons on it, that it frightened him.

"Oh... I'm.." Hadrian's hand found hers again, and clung to it. "I'm sorry." His upbringing had been sheltered, he'd never been exposed to anything like that, he'd had an easy run, which he was often criticized for, it's not my fault. He wasn't really sure what else to say, sympathy was a strange feeling to him. He pulled Ania close and hooked an arm around her shoulders in an affectionate sort of way. He wasn't really sure what he was doing, but he did it anyway. Hadrian wondered if asking that had been a good idea or not, he apologized again, his tone a little softer, this time.</div>
