Nicolas had the sneaking suspicion that Ulrich had absolutely no idea what to think about food. How much taste variety could there be when it came to fish? Certainly there was a difference in taste between different kinds, but the taste difference between two kinds of fish, and fish and beef or chicken must have been... startling, at best. Ulrich didn't do too bad with the cutlery, although he didn't seem to know what to make of it.

"Very flattering." He muttered under his breath, grabbing his own plate and taking a seat. "I should have made you try plain chicken for some context." Rather than just giving him something he'd actually tried on. He should have known he'd have no idea how good or bad it was. "Everything probably tastes a hell of a lot less salty for you." Considering he literally lived under the ocean, surrounded by salt all the time.

"I'm used to eating everything raw. Fish, seaweed, occasional human or animal sacrifices..." He took another bite and chewed as if he was contemplating the universe in his mouth. Never anything cooked unless he was at a party, and that was so few and far between that it was still bizarre. "And I'm used to having a stronger jaw while doing this."

He was used to crushing bone, tearing through rope as if it were candy floss and ripping meat apart like wet tissue. He wasn't used to tedious chewing involved in a lot of processed foods on land. And Nicolas was right, everything tasted a hell of a lot less salty.

"It does. It's strange." He was eating it nonetheless, however. "Have you ever attempted raw food? Fish, mostly. You humans have this thing called sushi that I've heard of."

Nicolas made a face at the mention of eating people. Sacrifices? People were sacrificing people to Ulrich? Well, that was always a pleasant thing to find out about the person you were supposed to be living with.

"Ate sushi once a while back. It's pretty expensive because it's all the good parts of the fish. There's steak tartare, but no, I haven't had that either. Eating raw stuff means it's generally going to be high quality stuff, and I was never high class enough for that sort of shit." Too much for him, in other words. Especially when he lost his job. "Most people just eat things that aren't meat, or cooked meat." Simple enough. He worked through his own chicken, bit by bit, using well practiced skills to cut through the meat. He'd done this one handed once or twice.

Mostly in the old, more primitive days and less so currently, though it did happen every once in a while. Ah, he remembered when they used to throw a cow or a slave or something overboard to appease him before a voyage. Those were nice, but it happened very rarely now.

"Hm..." It was a low, contemplative sound though it sounded like something you'd record and play on the discovery channel. There were still obvious spaces where Ulrich wasn't quite human and he'd yet to learn to fill in those gaps and hide them.

He finished off his chicken, still finding it one of the odder things he'd tasted.

"Well that was... Fine. I suppose." Ulrich got up and stretched towards the ceiling. He was still naked. Damn it.

"I'll just... leave you to what you need to do." He needed some rest, perhaps a bit more time swimming around his new home and hoping he'd grow more used to it.

Nicolas sighed. Time to... do the dishes, he guessed. Well, at least he could do that, and the cabin or whatever you wanted to call it seemed well equipped enough. Easy enough to find the dishwasher, but hard enough to ignore Ulrich.

"For the record, we'll want like, a weekly cleaning service or something. I'm not cut out to be a maid by any metric." He paused to consider. "And a chef, because I can't cook for shit." Cooking was not a one-arm-friendly exercise. It just assumed you were going to have two hands to do things with, and Nicolas didn't ever have two hands, unless he forced someone to help.

For a moment, Ulrich only blinked at him. A cleaner and a cook? Well, he supposed the cleaner was fair enough, but he didn't know about a cook. He could eat right out of the ocean and in fact would enjoy that much more. Nicolas could find land food to eat, could he not?

"I'll see to a cleaner." Probably hire someone from the sea, but again, he'd have to figure it out. For the time being he wasn't going to argue it; the first day on land was already rather exhausting and he'd yet to come into contact with any humans that didn't know about him.

And with that, he disappeared to his own room.
