Gabe nodded,
"I often do forget." He sighed, "I know it's not an excuse though." He was feeling rather ashamed of himself right now, he hadn't meant to make Bill feel so bad, on his birthday- of all days. He shot his boyfriend a guilty look.

"I am really sorry, honest." Gabe told Bill as he cut the cake. He had got a plate and a spoon. He carefully lifted the piece of cake onto the plate with a knife. "Here you go sweetheart." He handed Bill the plate.

Gabe had a feeling that William's mood turning south wasn't completely his fault. Perhaps there was some other reason, but Gabe didn't want to ask him about it. He had a feeling his boyfriend didn't want to talk about it. Instead he decided to give the boy comfort, in the form of cuddles and kisses.

<div align=center>William smiled, poor Gabe. His stance softened a little, he's just trying to be a boyfriend. He let out a soft sigh, shook his head and dropped it. There was no point holding a grudge against him, he hadn't done all that much wrong. Bill took the plate he was given, pulled a piece of the cake off and put it into his mouth. It was soft, and it tasted good. He couldn't help feeling guilty about it, though, "cake will make me fat." He stated with a frown, "I shouldn't eat too much." He added quietly, taking another tiny piece off it.

William appreciated the comfort, he nestled himself against the other boy and dropped his head to rest against his shoulder. He was feeling warm and sleepy and suddenly he didn't want to leave as much as he had a few minutes ago. I'm being stupid. He took another piece of cake, he rather wanted to just be spoon fed the frosting, it was good and William could already feel the sugar pulsing through his veins. He was already excited enough as it was, sugar was a bad choice for him right now. It'd only make him ten times more excited than he already was. </div>

Gabe mentally let go of some of the tension he'd been holding, Bill eating the cake was a sign that the boy had accepted his apology. He was sad that the cake was making Bill feel guilty, but he figured that mental illnesses don't care if it's your birthday, they're not gonna give you a break.

"Don't worry about it," Gabe told Bill, "it's your birthday, it doesn't matter how much cake you eat." He was tempted to have some himself but he didn't know if William would mind him taking some, he didn't think he would though. "Mind if I have a slice?" He asked, just to make sure.

As they sat there cuddling, Gabe noticed a change in William. The boy's mood was lifting again, good, Gabe thought. He deserves to be in a good mood, it's his 18th birthday.

<div align=center>William frowned, "I guess." He answered with a shrug, he'd try to ignore the little voices telling him to stop in his head. He'd go for a run later, that'd make him feel better. He'd just force Gabe to go with him, he wouldn't mind, right? Gabe liked doing exercise. Running was good for William, anyway. He'd decided over the past few days that he probably had asthma, it hadn't actually been diagnosed though. Maybe I'm just unfit. He made a silent vow to visit the doctor, he'd drag Gabe along to that as well. "Why are you asking if you can have some?" He laughed, "you bought it." He was a little disappointed he didn't blow any candles out, though.

It didn't take him very long to finish the rest of the piece of cake he had. He squirmed away from Gabe and shuffled over to the sink so he could wash his plate up. Gabe's room was messier than it had been when he was last here, he made a mental note to tidy it up later, he'd undoubtedly be staying over, even if Gabe wasn't planning that. William stayed over more often than not, accidentally most of the time. "Hey, did you know, my family didn't even send me a birthday card?" He chirped, turning around and beaming at the older boy.</div>

William was right, Gabe liked exercise, when he could be bothered to do it. If William asked him to go for a run, he would gladly go with him. Gabe laughed,
"I'm asking 'cause it's your birthday so you're the boss!" William was always the boss though really, whether it was his birthday or not. They both knew that.

"I'll do that sweetheart," Gabe moved over to the dishes, "you can sit and relax." Gabe felt a little embarrassed at the state of the sink, he knew William hated the mess he often had in his room but at the same time Gabe was always too lazy to clean it. Bill usually tidied when he came over which usually made Gabe feel even guiltier.

'Hey, did you know, my family didn't even send me a birthday card?' Gabe's heart stopped for half a beat. Not even a card, that's awful...my poor Bill. He went and wrapped his arms around Bill, "I'm so sorry querido...maybe it got delayed in the mail?"

<div align=center>William shrugged, he supposed. He wasn't going to eat a whole cake by himself, he'd probably throw up. That would be a waste of money. William was always the boss, regardless of the day. He was incredibly demanding, it wasn't his fault, half the time he didn't even realize how bad he was. They both knew that, too. Gabe put up with everything William threw at him, which he was incredibly grateful for. He would be a mess without Gabe, he stood by what he'd said a while ago. Gabe was his rock and for the most part he held him on the ground.

William carried on tidying regardless, almost in an absent sort of manner. He almost did this automatically now, he liked cleaning, so there wasn't really any need for Gabe to feel guilty about it. Maybe it got delayed in the mail? The boy laughed and shook his head, glancing up at his boyfriend and smiling softly. "No," He ran a hand through his hair and stood up straight. "They probably don't even remember it was today." He spoke like he didn't particularly care about it, but that most likely wasn't true at all. His facial expression didn't change though. "Oh well."</div>

Gabe supposed that if Bill didn't mind the cleaning, even after Gabe offering to do it, he might as well take a piece of cake and relax. It looked so tasty, he had been craving a slice since he bought it. Even though realistically Bill wouldn't have eaten all of the cake, if he had wanted to try Gabe would have let him fire ahead because he knew Bill was in charge.

"Oh no, querido." Gabe felt a rush of pity for poor Bill. Imagine your own family either forgetting or not bothering to send you a birthday card. It must be awful. A part of Gabe wanted to reassure Bill until he was blue in the face, but in reality what good would that do? It'd be cruel to get his hopes up only to have them crushed into a million pieces within the next few days. "I'm so sorry." He clutched Bill tightly, even though the boy was smiling he knew he must feel the opposite of happy.

<div align=center>There would be no way he could eat all the cake. He'd feel terrible if he did. It would make him feel terribly ill and he probably wouldn't eat anything else for a long time. William didn't understand why Gabe was apologizing to him, it wasn't his fault. He hadn't driven his family away from him. The boy smiled brightly and patted his boyfriend on the head, "I'm okay!" He chirped, "not as if I wasn't expecting it!" He laughed softly to himself, and shuffled over to curl up on Gabe's bed again. He'd made himself over excited and wanted rather desperately to lie down for a while.

He scrabbled for the woolen jumper Gabriel had presented him with, and pulled it over his head again, nestling himself inside the duvets and tucking them underneath his chin. He felt warm and safe and the bed smelled like Gabe, or maybe that was just because he'd drenched his new jumper in Gabriel's cologne. "Thank you for doing birthdays with me." He murmured, yawning softly and settling down into the mattress. Maybe I will just nap for five minutes... Five minutes won't hurt... Five minutes most likely meant four hours, though. Especially now he was comfortable.</div>

'I'm okay' , Gabe could tell the boy was lying, he didn't know why he bothered to lie, if Gabe had been in a similar position he would have complained all the time about it. Bill was strong, in Gabe's eyes, he hardly ever complained about his problems. Although the boy did tend to complain about a lot of little things, it wasn't the same .

"Bill you don't have to pretend it doesn't bother you," Gabe bit his lip, trying to tread carefully. "It's alright to be upset about it, you have every right to be." Gabe knew he'd be upset if his family treated him the way William's treated him. "I'm here always if you wanna talk or even if you just need someone to cuddle and reassure you," Gabe wasn't very good at being comforting however, but he had sweet intentions.

Gabe smiled as he saw William putting on the jumper he had bought for him. He looked cute as a button in it, it suited him perfectly. Gabe was glad he had bought it.
"You're welcome, querido," Gabe went over to kiss the boy on his forehead as he fell asleep. And I hope to spend many more with you, Many, many more .
