He stared at her, though it wasn't exactly obvious behind his sunglasses. "Ehh...er...well..I don't know..Erm.." he hemmed and hawed for a minute or two before a second thought dawned on him. "Eh, wait..That didn't surprise you?" he questioned, cocking his head questioningly at her.

He became aware of a growing crowd, and removed his sunglasses to glower at the watchers with his black eyes. Then he slipped the sunglasses back on and rubbed his forehead, since he had a headache from the light exposure.

Shasta shrugged a little, nothing really surprised her anymore. After mind control, and talking stuffed bears she didn't really notice that things were suppose to be shocking anymore.
Not really, illiteracy is a growing epidemic in this country. It runs much more rampant than people would like to care to think about. So, do you want me to teach you? Or no?
She asked and repositioned herself putting her feet up on the coffee table showing off the tattered shoes even more.

Ryder's wings tensed suddenly. Something about her enthusiasm in offering to help him with something so long term as reading set off the alarms in his head. Everything in his mind told him to run and since that was all he had experiance with, that was exactly what he did.

"Ehh..Well...I actually have to go. I totally forgot to do something. Sorry." he offered her an entirely honest grin of apology, and then got up, folding his wings tightly against his back. He wasn't afraid, but the instict telling him to run took over. There was no emotional response, just instinct.

He jogged off easily, his entire demeanor seemed to exhude peace.

Shasta shrugged and picked up an old copy of The Count Of Monte Cristo from the coffee table and started leafing through the pages wondering what they heck was Ryder's problem, she was just trying to be nice, oh well.

TIME JUMP

Shasta stood near the lake with an aqua dress hanging loosely from her body, which considering that the winds were starting to pick up was not the greatest idea in the world. A breeze blew by chilling her small frame. She shivered a little and pulled her hair up into a ponytail to keep it from blowing in her face.

Ryder was taking a liesurely flight when he suddenly spotted a strange light flying towards him. He managed to get out of the way of what was a lazer shot from somebody with powers. Unfortunately, said avoidant manuver caused a tall tree to catch one wing. This sent him plummeting down to the ground, literally at the feet of Shasta.

He groaned, rolling forward onto his stomach to get his weight off his bent wing. One wing was folded against his back, and the other was limp, the pain refusing to let him work the wing. Since there was constant pain shooting up his right wing through his shoulderblade, he was unaware of an audience, and made a slightly comical effect.

Well, that, or he looked like a fallen angel in sunglasses.

Shasta jumped back as something large and heavy plummeted to the ground at her feet, and because Ryder had fallen at such an inopportune time of vulnerable mind activity a searing pain she gasped and grabbed her head resisting the urges to fall over and scream.
She gasped in air and calmed her mind, suppressing the pain as much as she could though her head still felt numb from the sudden shock of the hurt.
She gulped down some more air before saying
We need to get you to a doctor...

Ryder jumped up to his feet and winced. His right wing hung limp at his side and he nodded weakly. "Yeah I guess you're right.." he agreed, reaching back to pull his wing into a folded position with his arm.

He cocked his head at her. "Ehh.. You look a little pale, I didn't hurt you, did I?" he questioned, keeping back a gasp as he poped a few joints back into place to keep his wing where it was until he could properly get it into a sling.

"And, you don't need to follow me, I can leave you to whatever you were doing before I..heh.. dropped in on you." he grinned lopsidedly, though his wing was throbbing, and his head was pounding because he'd broken his sunglasses in the fall.

Shasta shook her head a little more trying to clear her head grinned at him a little.
Nah, it's okay, not only do I want to make sure you can get there, you also gave me one killer headache, so I am in desperate need of Advil. she said wiping her hand over her eyes in an attempt to change her eye color from the painful white color back to a deep gray.
She took a couple steps forward maintaining proper footing even though she felt as though her brain had been dumped into the ocean and was now swimming to find it's way back to coherency. She looked over her shoulder at Ryder.
are you coming or not?

Ryder stood still, the violent light overwhelming his senses. On the up side, he wasn't paying much attention to the pain in his wing. He just couldn't see much of anything. "Yeah..yeah just give me a minute." he adjusted his mind, and closed his eyes. He moved forward slowly, focusing on his surroundings. "I can't open my eyes without sunglasses...I can't even see without sunglasses during the day." he explained with a small, almost sheepish grin on his face.

Once he was out of the light, the fact that he'd somehow managed to give her a headache without touching her would dawn on him, but for the moment, he was about ready to curl up and die.

Shasta walked underneath the tree where Ryder was standing and took a pair of cat eye sunglasses out from the pocket of her denim shorts. She held them out to Ryder with a sheepish grin to match his own.
I know that they're silly, and feminine, and old, but it's either these or I lead you by the hand with your eyes closed.
She grinned at him her eyes the same steel gray that she usually tries to keep them, only with a small hint of yellow, she was slightly embarrassed by her sunglasses, but if they would help then she wouldn't complain.
