It was cold and rainy that day—a miserable combination for Jaqueline. Being cold blooded made it miserable, obviously, but there was also the fact that she couldn’t wear shoes with her gigantic gecko feet.
She dashed quickly across the courtyard, desperately clinging to an umbrella that was not doing her much good. The wind was blowing the rain right in her direction, so she was getting wet regardless. She nearly tripped but caught herself as she got into the school’s entranceway.
“I need to make friends with someone who can control weather…†Jaqueline moaned to herself as she put her umbrella aside and shook the rainwater from her hair. Ugh, her feet were so wet and cold and shivering. She was semi-prepared for days like this with a towel, but…that towel was in her office. Which meant she had to walk to her office. On cold, wet gecko feet.
This wouldn’t be such a big deal except for the fact that her feet…they squeaked when wet on certain surfaces. The linoleum tiles that the school had for floors? Yeah, they squeaked horribly on those floors.
But it wasn’t like Jaqueline had a choice. Reluctantly, she started heading down the hall to her office—trying to make very light, gentle steps so that the noise wasn’t too terribly obnoxious. Of course, students who walked by still giggled at her utter awkwardness regardless. Jaqueline shoved her hands into the pockets of her big, puffy coat and avoided eye contact as she tried to get to her office both as quickly and as quietly as she could possibly be.
