After the attack of Woodland, the conversations at the hospital, her grandfather yelling at her - threatening to go to the police, Zora had fallen into bed exhausted and a mess. She had spent the whole night between tears and hysteria, she had caused everyone so much pain, hurt the ones around her. She had forced Broen to do something dangerous to himself, something that thankfully, had not killed him. And Jude, he was a mess too. She had noticed his disappearance and the red puffy eyes at the hospital, he'd been upset and crying. Hell, she had been close to it herself and if anybody had asked her "How she was?" she would have broken down in a heap and just dissolved into tears.

Getting up from the bed, dressed very simply in a short red sundress and bare feet - her grandfather had grabbed her some clothes and she really didn't care what she wore at the moment - she looked and felt younger than she was. Zora then stared sadly out the window, not exactly sure what she should do. She felt very alone, extremely helpless and scared and she only knew she hated herself for everything she had caused everyone.

Broen felt raw, like the feeling of a sunburn threatening to erupt in pain at the slightest touch.Sunburn would've been better though, because as it stood Broen was on the verge of blowing up or breaking down every time he spoke to someone. But he needed to talk, because he couldn't let any of this sit for too long. He'd go crazy. Maybe he already was.

Stopping at the hotel room the discharge nurse had given him, he adjusted the loaned clothes that Angelo had given him. Baggy basketball shorts a size too big, tied tight around his waist to keep them in place. The shirt at least fit better, just a plain white undershirt. He cursed under his breath and knocked on the door. Zora was here. And above everybody he had fucked over since he got here, he needed to have a real sit down with her.

Hearing the knock at the door, Zora turned around. She didn't know who it could be. Her grandfather was out, Celeste was at work and basically, those were the only people she really expected would to want to see her after all that had happened.

Opening the door, she saw, to her surprise it was Broen, nodding hello, she stepped simply aside and let him into the room, unsure of what to even say. Zora just shut the door first and gestured for him to have a seat if he wanted.

Well this was awkward. Broen stepped inside and gave a tight smile to Zora. God he didn't know what to do or say. "I came to, uh. Check on you. Let you know I was out of the hospital."

He paused and took a seat on the edge of the bed. Looking around the room, he sighed heavily. Broen suddenly felt tired.

"And I think we need to talk. To really talk."

Zora just walked over to the bed and sat down beside Broen but leaving a respectable distance, not wanting to crowd him. She had no idea where they stood anymore. It had been easier before all this mess had happened. There had been no emotions involved, and now, there were.

"Sure, we can talk," Zora said evenly as she glanced at Broen, "What's up?" she asked with some uncertainty, not sure what he wanted to talk about, or maybe he just needed to vent, she couldn't tell.

Broen wasn't sure where he should start, exactly. But he needed to start somewhere. So he guessed he'd best start at the beginning.

"I'm sorry. I've been nothing but an ass to you. You have been going through... just a really shitty situation, and I took advantage of it... and I've treated you like shit this whole time."

Hearing his apology was a surprise of sorts and it probably showed. Zora just looked at the floor then, "It's okay." she said with a shrug, "Believe it or not, I knew that you were going to be shitty to me when I hired you. See, I knew that you were just focussed on a paycheck, and that is something I'm used to..." she confessed.

"You were something I could count on, you weren't another variable that I needed to worry about. In an odd way, I was, at one point, using you just as much as you were using me," she said rather ashamed to admit that to Broen.

"Not the same thing. I don't need you to make excuses for me, Zora. Please, I really just. Need you to be mad. Or something."

He couldn't get off topic now. He needed to focus. "Regardless though of how you feel. I feel just. Fuckin terrible. And I can't even make up for it. I can't really be your bodyguard anymore."

Not without powers, anyway. A normal human on Manta Carlos was about as scary as a small, happy dog anywhere else in the world. And Broen knew it.

Sighing at this, Zora got up from the bed and moved to the window, staring down at the traffic below. "I cannot be mad at you, Broen. You want me to be, but I am not. The mere fact you are alive, and that I am to blame for you losing your powers, and maybe even your life, negates any ill-will towards you." she said very quietly.

"I wish you'd reconsider that. A bodyguard is more than just brute strength, and truthfully, I have found your advice and perspective on things important, and you know about me and what is happening around me. I trust your judgement, and I trust you," Zora said as she turned around to look at him. "Trust is not something I give easily either," she said with a sigh. She knew she was a mess, a screw up on so many levels.

"But worst comes to worst, the best I can do now is take a bullet meant for you. You need better protection than that. Hell you have better protection than that with your charms."

He collapsed backwards onto the bed, lying there and staring at the ceiling. "I'm definitely not worth a twenty-five grand a month salary anymore..."

"Why are you so intent on keeping me on? Are you pitying me? Because I decided to break my belt buckle?"
