A distraction! Hattie could do that. She was the very best at distractions. She was the distraction queen! Hattie walked casually up to Dorian, said her line, and was presented with but a handful of candy.

Hattie's lower lip popped out and quivered, pot still raised and eyes watered just a tad. She darted forward and wrapped her arms around his midsection to snuggle into him. "Can I at least get a kiss? Pretty please?"

Dorian rolled his eyes. It was cute, but he knew when people were trying to extort things from him. Although, a kiss didn't sound too bad. If she was going to stop making a scene, then why not?

Dorian picked Hattie up. He looked at the crowd, blushing a little. "This is just a very short alien adult. Nothing weird here." With that, he gave her a peck on the lips.

Too fast. Kek had her hand on the handle of the basket when Dorian saw movement at the corner of his eyes. Wh — This was a trick! He knew it!

"Hey!" he screamed.

Kek scrambled away with the two baskets of candy, knocking the table over. "Hattie, let's scram!"

Britta wasn’t really the most festive when it came to Halloween, but between the incentive for a bonus and the threat of being forced into some costume of Toby’s choosing if she did not wear one—she decided it was worth putting some effort in. Britta had always been partial to Audrey Hepburn’s look in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” so the classic and elegant look was her choice for the evening.

Mia, on the other hand, not only had a costume but a surprise costume. Dorian had seen her in her bunny costume before, but for this event she decided on something different and special just for him. She was in the changing room, putting the finishing touches on her makeup and hair with a robe on to maintain the mystery. Mia was getting far more into the Halloween spirit, and when she heard the sound of Britta’s heels clicking nearby, she found she couldn’t resist the whole ‘trick’ aspect of trick or treat…

Mia popped her head out from the changing room and spotted her target. She tip-toed on red boots, inching closer and closer until...she was close enough to scream in her ear like a crazed banshee.

Britta screamed in return, whirled around, and fell right on her ass. She had desperate grabbed her cameras—both her professional one and her polaroid—to ensure neither were damaged in the fall.

“GodDAMN it, Mia!” The Fae shouted at her. “If you had broken either Voltaire or Kierkegaard, you would be paying for them!”

Mia was already laughing her ass off, but when she heard those names she was crouching on the ground from laughing so hard.

“You NAMED your cameras?! Did you just reveal your cute side, Britta?!” She crawled closer and pinched Britta’s cheek. “You have a CUTE SIDE!”

Britta swatted Mia’s hand away and glared at her. “I-I do not…” she grumbled stubbornly.
