Shay still frequented the sports track at school. She'd done so since she was an orphan. Running, feeling your heartbeat in your fingertips, pretending the rest of the world didn't exist. These were things Shay loved best about exercise.

When Shay took any time to think or stay in her head, she could feel a sickness growing there. Something powerful, like a surge of hatred, but airy and cold, where it should have been hot. Sharp, where it should have been blunt.

Shay sunk to her knees a distance from the field and the track, breathing hard, overexerted herself. Her body throbbed to the beat of her heart; a migraine worked its way through the entirety of her person. Her throat was sore and hot in the way it got before she had a coughing fit.

She lurched forward and hacked a few times, coughing until she tasted copper on the back of her tongue until strings of red dripped from her lips to the ground. Until she was coughing and gagging into her cupped hands, shoulders jerking with and heart squeezing. Mind numb. No feeling and the only thing bringing her back was sudden bolts of pain. Reminded her that she wasn't dead yet, even if it sometimes felt like it.

She tried to stand, but her coughing fit wasn't over, so she bowed low to the ground to mitigate the pain and waited.

"Guh. I hate these stupid.. Cold weather gym clothes. Fuckin' sweats..." Kris muttered out as he tugged on the his sweat pants. It was always so.. Weird feeling.. So clingy-to his body yet also loose at the same time? And made from such a weird fabric. It was pretty dumb that he had to take manditory power controlling classes. And it was more stupid that they were being held outside today.

He was heading towards the field, the hulking amazon of a woman known as Quasar behind him when he heard some coughing. Blinking, Kris decided to investigate. Maybe someone was dying and he could get out of class or whatever.

"Well whaaaat the fuck is this?" he asked as he stared down towards the person on her knees. "You fuckin' okay or something or are you gonna die? I mean.. If you die, I think I get out of classes for the rest of the semester. So, like.. Can you wait until after winter break or something?" Kris continued to ask as he slowly crouched down next to her, "So.. You need help or something?"

Shay barked out some laughter that had her throat burning further. "Like they'd let you out for the death of someone you don't even know. Hello, we've had plenty of students picked off by serial killers this year. One of them was even in my class, and I still wasn't allowed to miss a whole semester."

Shay continued coughing into her arm, the clothing there coated in specks of red once she pulled back. "Nice try, though."

She looked from the blood on her clothing to the boy crouching beside her, then over her shoulder to make sure she wasn't about to be crowded. "It wouldn't hurt to get somewhere where no one will crowd me, yeah."

That out of the way, Shay struggled to her feet, dizzy and weak-kneed. "I'm Eroshay Rosales, by the way. Er, just call me Shay. And you're...?"
