Zhariah let his arms drop to his sides, still sitting on his knees. He looked where she was looking, and suddenly he was completely serious.
Loo...?Loo are you okay? he asked softly. He felt terrible...had he done something wrong...he shouldn't have touched her. What a dumb move.
He stood up and brushed off his pants. Hopefully he could salvage the night. He still wanted to be her friend. He just felt like an idiot.
He held his hand down to her and asked
Want help up?

She continued to stare down the stairs until he spoke. His calling her Loo broke the connection with some poor soul with a newly broken heart, though their fresh, strong emotions still lapped at her continuously. She glanced up at him with a blank look on her face, "Hmm?" and then the light went back on, "Oh yeah, I'm fine. My mind just went somewhere else for a minute." she spoke cheerily, nothing belying the compassion she felt for the person down the stairs.

Now, she could have stood no problem on her own, but instead, she took the offered hand, still pulling herself up with her own core strength, more having her hand in his just to be polite. Once she was on her feet, she shifted slightly, feeling his unease. She mentally cursed not being able to shut off her Empathy, and tried to figure out how to get his mind off of what had just happened. "So, Zar, you ever had a girlfriend?" she grinned, cocking her head to the side. Now, that wasn't the most proper topic, but at the least, he'd wind up feeling embarassed, and get his mind off of her, because she didn't want him knowing she was an Empath, just yet.

Zar was thrown off for a moment by her question but quickly recovered. He figured she was trying to shift the focus off of her. He let go of her hand and started down the stairs with both hands in his pockets and took a few steps before he turned around and answered her.
Yeah, I've had a couple. Nothing serious though. he said turning around to look down the stairs. It all seemed so barren and sad today.
Without turning around to face her he stopped and asked.
What about you, Loo? Do you have a beau?

Loo nodded at his comment, then shrugged as he spoke again. "A beau? Not a chance. I've had a boyfriend or two.." she paused, deciding not to count how many boys she'd caused to have a crush on her. She wasn't proud of it, but being an empath, she always knew. "But they turned out to be jerks who were only attracted to me physically," she shifted her weight, and decided to be totally honest, "The relationships ended when they tried something and wound up with a black eye." she shrugged again. He seemed to enjoy shifting the topic to her.

She took a breath to say what she wanted in a guy, but snapped her mouth shut before any of the words could escape. She decided instead on a kind of warning to him, in a subtle way, that she wasn't ready for a relationship like that, "I've been hurt a lot." her words were soft and reflective, face serious.

Then she decided it was time to be light hearted again, though the weight of the person down stairs was still weighing on her. She grabbed his hand, and gently began leading him down the stairs, "Come on, at this rate we'll get there at midnight." she said teasingly, jerking her head in the direction she wanted to go, hair swooshing in the same direction.

Zhariah looked at her, his heart heavy. He wanted to say something like he would never hurt her but stopped. He didn't want to, well not give her the wrong idea per se. He did like her, but that was only first impression. He really wanted to get to know her before anything happened. That and he wasn't sure if he was even READY for a relationship! Then she was tugging him down the stairs. He thought about pulling his hand from hers but changed his mind.
Okay, then. Let's hurry! he said and detached himself from her hand and said
I'll race you! he said and started down the hallway towards the door.

She grinned at him, allowing him to get a head start. She stood where she was as he began to run down the stairs, and stretched like a feline. Once he was a staircase appart from her, she took a flying leap and caught the far wall, then, turning around, she did the same, jumping from wall to wall at alarming speed. She got to the bottom of the stairs just a split second after Zar, and dropped from the wall into a cat like, crouched position. She grinned up at him. "You win." she said cheerfully, straightening into a standing position.

As she stood, she held in a sigh. There were more people on this floor. Not enough to dull her powers, but enough to overload her. All of their emotions washed over her, depression, insecurity, heart break, happiness. She tried to block it for a moment, but immediately regretted it, a splitting headache taking over. She smiled at him though and gestured to the way outside. "Lead the way." she said cheerfully, grinning up at him, and nobody would have guessed that her head felt like somebody was trying to use a jackhammer on her.

Zhariah smiled down at her and her feline position. She stood and told him to lead the way. He turned his back and walked towards the door and opened it for her waiting for her to come over and walk out and he would lead her on the way to the restaurant. He hoped she like Italian. But rather than worry he asked her.
Do you like Italian?

OoC-ness:

We could say that they went out and parted ways, and then start a new topic for them?
