The Hereafter Club meeting had just wrapped up. Iggy was cleaning up as he often did after their meetings. Between the crap with Alma and her brother, and the death of his parents, the club had kind of become a comfortable place for him. It was a rough start to the year, but things seemed to be looking up. It was a sort of strange 180, he was definitely more out of his shell than he'd ever been at any point in his life.
After he'd finished straightening out the chairs and throwing the trash out he sat down, pulled out his notebook and started writing a bit. Sometimes he would meet up with a few people after club and go somewhere. But there were also days like today. Some nice quiet was doing him some good after all. This was less a poem, and more just phrases he liked. He didn't really have to look and see, but someone was there. He could feel them through his aura. He turned to face them.

"Oh hey, you're still here? Um, what's up?"

Joining a club so soon felt... unsafe to Divius, but this seemed like the next best thing to the DSU. Less of a chance for them to encounter a sibling. And Divius could not let themself to be weak enough to fearfully hide in their dorm, letting their life fade away with every cough until one of their siblings finally killed them. At the very least, they deserved to live a peaceful life until their last moments, and this club was one of the few spaces Divius truly felt safe in. So safe that it made leaving difficult even after everyone had gone.

Everyone but Iggy, that is. "I didn't want to go back to my dorm yet. I wanted to see what you were doing too. Is that okay?" They rolled themself over to Iggy, then leaned over to peek at his writing. "What are you doing? Poetry?"

"Oh this isn't really anything. Just stuff that sounded cool in my head," Iggy smiled at them as he finished what he was writing and set his pencil down. Divius was a fairly new addition to the club. Iggy half suspected they'd joined because of him. The club was probably a good fit for them though overall.

He was thinking up conversation topics when Cooper, his raccoon hopped up onto the desk and settled down by him. "Um how are you liking Hereafter so far?"

Noticing the pause in the conversation, Divius wondered if they were difficult to converse with. The answer came to them quickly. They were new here. New to living. Knowing the exact right thing to say to people was difficult while maintaining balance.

Before they could answer, there was a long stretch of coughing. This entire time Divius had been trying to hold it in. Now it was coming out so hard they thought their lungs burst open. Although their mask already covered their mouth, they quickly turned their head away from Iggy. For a moment, they swayed dizzily, then looked back at him like nothing ever happened. This was normal.

"I enjoy the club. I know I'm out of place here, but it's better than the Demonic Student Union. Safer. There are kids my age too."

"That's really good to hear. I'm happy for you," Iggy grinned and closed his book, turning to focus his attention more on Divius. He considered what to say next regarding them not quite fitting into the club.

"I'm going to softly disagree with you. I guess traditionally speaking, this club's for supernatural misfits and half angel and demon kinda fits that. But more importantly, you fit in because you want to be here. This isn't an exclusive club, we're supposed to help people understand what we are too."

That was unexpected. Divius eyes widened ever so little at Iggy's speech about them fitting in the club. It made them feel warm and fuzzy inside, which made them force up a cough to hide the way her eyes began to smile.

Returning to their blank expression, they considered his words quietly before saying, "I think that's admirable. I think that's another reason why I came here. My coughing and sneezing interrupt talks though. It's really..." A small clench of her fist and a furrow of her eyebrows. "It's a personal problem. I'll learn to hold myself back."
