He sat at his desk sorting through paperwork, after coming to the school he had found that he liked learning, liked reading and had quickly found himself at the museum, not only was it a museum of basic world history but also a museum of the supernatural. It wasn't just a place where he could learn and work, but just maybe it would give him a chance to figure out where the Shadow came from.

As he worked through the papers a single small shadow tentacle appeared on his shoulder, it was an odd thing that happened when he was thinking, it was as much of the Shadow as he could use without going into his shadow form. "TEDIOUS WORK FOR A PATHETIC WORM," he ignored the Shadow, grateful as always that no one else could hear the parasite.

There were more than just James' shadow tentacles in the museum that day.

Large, black tentacles stretched out of Caterina's back as she had them pick up a few books off the shelf behind her within her little office. Ever the multitasker, Caterina was shifting her attentions between museum work and a bit of paperwork for Vito Rosales.

The Rosales...it was still hard to believe that she had joined the biggest crime family on Manta Carlos. It was even harder to believe that it felt so right. Caterina Rosales. She felt like a whole new person with her new last name...even if all she had to do was add 'les' to the end of her birth name, 'Rosa'.

But, nonetheless, she did feel like a new person. A brighter person. Someone a little less afraid to talk to others. She had been on that island for...what, maybe close to a hundred years now? And she spent most of that speaking to nobody. Now things would change. She was determined to be a little more open and social.

So, Caterina decided to take a short break from her work, rising from her chair and stepping out of her office into the Historical Documents department. Her tentacles still held a few books behind her as she noticed James.

"Oh! You're here!" Caterina said, enthusiastically pressing her hands together she she approached. "It's nice to see you again, James!"

He looked up and smiled at Caterina, he had been very surprised to find someone like him, someone forced to share their body with another entity, remembering what had happened last time he focused and his shadow tentacle faded into his shoulder. THOSE MONGRELS LIVING IN THAT WOMAN'S BODY ARE NOTING LIKE ME! I AM BEYOND THEM!, he ignored the Shadow, the creature always acted like it was better than everything despite it having amnesia.

"It's good to see you too Caterina," he had been happy to here that she worked at the museum, he had been looking forward to talking to her. "How are you? Have your tag-alongs been behaving?" he chuckled abit, despite the hell that the Shadow tended to make his life into, he still tried to keep his spirits up.

“I’ve been well. And they…mm, they’ve been behaved well enough,” Caterina replied before glancing back at the tentacles that squirmed from her back. Why were they even carrying books around? It was a mystery. Sometimes they just liked to grab at things. And they probably would have gone after James’s own shadow tentacles too, had he not managed to make them vanish for the time being.

“And how about you? How has working in the museum been so far?” She smiled, while absentmindedly adjusting one of the signature Rosales roses in her hair.

Leaning a bit, he looked at her tentacles carrying books, he was thankful his didn't do such things. He had control over his, if he didn't they'd likely constantly attack people.

"I've loved it so far," the museum held so much to see and learn. "Been comparing the Shadow to any myths or legendary creatures......can't seem to find d anything yet," he chuckled a bit, "well besides.....the ones you have."

Not many knew, but James was a mess, he his it well, but he was more or less always depressed, and didn't have the best methods for coping with things.

"Good! I'm glad to hear it!" Caterina smiled as James explained he loved working in the museum. They rarely got interns--perhaps it wasn't as exciting as some other opportunities for students out there, but Caterina was quite passionate about her work and it was nice to have a fresh face feel the same way.

"Ah, yes, the Banyoles Monster..." Caterina said with a slightly exasperated sigh as she looked at the tentacles squirming from her back.

"It sounds like your Shadow is more aggressive than the Banyoles Monster--at least, as it is now. Legend says the Banyoles Monster was once highly aggressive, until St. Emeterio came and used prayer to transform it into a calm creature--and even into a herbivore."

Caterina poked at one of the tentacles wriggling by her shoulder.

"That is why I am a vegetarian, funny enough. Meat makes me ill, because of the way the Banyoles Monster is."

James nodded and listened, "that's incredible," he'd often wondered what it would take to change the Shadow. "It's been interesting, adjusting, to mine," he supposed he was lucky, his entity didn't have access to it's power.

"Shadow is...well.....," he tried to think of proper words to describe it, "he's really childish...throws fits and all that." He chuckled a little, the Shadow was now throwing one of those mental fits, "it's strange, such a powerful being acting like that."

He smiled through the splitting headache developing, "but, part of me is grateful for it, if I hadn't bonded with it I wouldn't have been brought here."

Caterina tilted her head a bit as she considered the Shadow for a moment.

“Certainly odd, but it makes sense in a way. Surely if it were once a powerful being, it must be used to having its own way at all times. Now it is restricted, and cannot help but lash out in frustration—and in the state it’s in, it can really only come off as childish.”

She let out a little giggle at the thought.

“The Dip used to be a bit like that, although he has since calmed down.”

Caterina then nodded, and shifted her gaze away from James for a moment as she considered his words.

“It is good you can see the benefits of your situation. I was…very bitter for a long time, about being a witch and being attached to these creatures.”

She let out a sigh, but then turned back to James with a smile.

“But that is no way to live.”

He nodded, "I...I have fight against every day..," he cleared his throat, "the bitterness...sometimes I want to just give in, seems easier, but like you said, that no way to live, and I want a life." It was so hard, he'd seen so much and misery in his life, yet he tried to hold onto hope, a little bit of light he'd kept through out the darkness.

"As much of an as the Shadow is...I can't feeling bad for him sometimes," odd, feeling bad for such a hateful creature, "he doesn't remember anything from before I found him...just nothing." He sighed a little, "I don't have amnesia, I don't know what it's like. I do, however, know what it's like, feeling as if, there pieces missing of you. So, maybe I can find out where he came from, grant him that little bit of peace."

The whole thing rather ironic, he'd suffered, been alone his whole life, yet once James had been granted a second chance, he couldn't help but feel a desire to help others.
