Diego had a feeling, that if he spent too much time with Eric he would eventually get arrhythmia or an ulcer or a stroke or some other thing you could get from being too stressed, blushing too much or having your heart beat way too fast. It didn't feel healthy to spend time with a guy that was a good person and funny and just happened to be something along the lines of or more like exactly Diego's type. But Diego did it anyway, because he was stupid and as mentioned before, Eric was a good guy.
And that was why Diego, against his better judgement, was showing Eric one of his favourite rooftops. It was away from the more crowded areas, near this factory but not too near for there to be any smell or smoke or such. And it was on top of a slope and one side faced the sea, a bay to be exact, and sunsets looked pretty darn awesome from there.
But of course Diego hadn't told Eric that, that would've sounded like he was hinting they should watch the sunset or other crap like that, and that was stupider than stupid, Diego definitely didn't want to do that, no way.
Diego could swear Xavier and Risky and their lovey dovey crap was somehow rubbing off on him.

"Just ignore the red flag that there are almost no people around here and it looks shady. If anyone looked at us they would say I'm definitely the one who's gonna get mugged."
Diego joked, a bit of a dark joke but it matched the area that was surrounding them. It wasn't straight up ghetto or anything, but the buildings were made of brick and few were old factories so the walls were bit grey from smoke here and there. The alleys had graffiti in them(pretty poorly made graffiti as Diego spied) and the people that did walk by were factory workers so their clothes and expressions weren't the best possible. But Diego didn't feel scared or intimidated by this place, he had lived around areas like this his whole life, and he was way too nervous to be around Eric to even consider the possible dangers around here.

Diego floated along the road, bit ahead of Eric, changing position constantly while in the air. Occasionally he sat, then lay down, then just spun upside down. He was pretty restless overall, anxious to show this rooftop to Eric, scared the guy wouldn't like it or would think it was lame.
"Were here! Ready to have a little climb? 'Cos there's no way I'm lifting your muscular ass up there."
Diego said suddenly, halting before one of the buildings that was higher than the rest. He turned to grin at Eric, still upside down, and gestured to a fire escape at the side of the building. The first ladder was a bit high, but surely Eric could reach it. Diego hoped, at least, because he seriously wasn't strong enough to lift the guy.
"I would make this a race but I'm 90% sure you'd lose~"

Eric didn't mind these surroundings too much. They were alien to him, like just about everything else on this island, and in a way that made it exciting. He smiled at the idea that they should be scared of getting mugged. "Yeah, I'd just be heartbroken if some mugger stole my pocket lint collection."

He liked Diego. They had a few things in common that not many other people grasped on this island. On top of that, he noticed the way Diego looked at him sometimes, and he kind of liked it. He missed the kind of playful flirting he used to get away with, with some of his friends back home.

They drew closer to the building, and now it was time to climb. "Maybe if I really book it, I could make it to the top before you can do it twice." He was sure Diego would win that race too.

He started his climb, not really trying to race Diego, but still making good time. His own body weight wasn't that much of an issue for him.

"Oh? Then I'll wait 'til you're halfway there and give you an adequate headstart, bigshot."
Diego said, turning right way up while crossing his arms, small challenging smirk on his face. Eric was pretty competitive and in a way so was Diego, but surely both of them knew that Diego was probably going to win this one. So at least in Diego's mind it wasn't a serious competition.

Diego did wait until Eric had gotten some good distance, and then he shot up, waving at Eric as he flew on by, and ended up on the roof first. But surprisingly Eric was almost right behind him. Diego looked around on the roof, the pillows he had brought here were still there, but so was something else. Diego's heart stopped when he saw a graffiti he had made, and a flower one, no less. One of the bigger chimneys had been graffitied to look like a flower field on a summer day, Diego had done it when he had been in a good mood. Diego looked behind him, yup, too late, Eric was already up here. Diego should just pretend that the graffiti had always been there and it was 100% not him who did it.

"Welcome to el techo de Diego. That's spanish for you better not eat too many of my cheetos 'cos my broke ass had to sell an arm and a leg to get these."
Diego snickered, as he opened his backpack and pulled out a jumbo bag of cheetos. It wasn't quite as big as the jumbo bag back in Halcyon, and had a lot of air, but it was still cheetos. And Diego frickin' loved cheetos.

Eric smiled and took a moment to catch his breath. He knew he'd lose, but racing was more fun than climbing up normally. Better workout, too.

He chuckled at Diego's translation. "Well, I hardly know any Spanish so I'll have to take your word for it."

He took a look around, glancing at the painted chimney and the scenic view of the ocean. "It's actually kinda pretty up here. You even have a fancy mural." He took a moment to catch his breath again, then pointed at the pillows. "Mind if I sit down on one of those?"

Diego hated sweating and exercising, so just looking at Eric catching his breath was exhausting. Catching his breath, kind of sweaty, jeez, Eric really was muscular...
Diego blinked once and mentally punched himself. No, bad brain, don't go there. Act normal, you freak.
Diego blushed just a bit, but thank god for tan skin, it was barely noticeable.

"You imply that I would lie? Tsk tsk, shame upon your house."
Diego tried to look as shocked as he could while munching on a handful of cheetos, and he shook his head disappointedly.

"Being airborne almost all the time has the perk that these kinda places aren't all that hard to find."
Diego said with a chuckle, internally wishing that Eric wouldn't start asking more about the mural.
"On my fancy pillows? Weeeeell, okay, I guess. Rental fee is either 7 bucks or two bags of cheetos per pillow."
Diego grinned, of course joking about the rental fee, but he also flew over to the pillows, grabbed two and arranged them carefully so they were a kind of seat against a nearby small chimney. Diego descended on his seat and made himself comfortable, like he owned the place. Which he in his own mind kinda did.
"Make yourself comfy, amigo."
Diego was really throwing around Spanish a lot now that he had started taking lessons, and he was all for bragging about his newly acquired skill.

"You drive a hard bargain amigo" Eric said. He arranged a few pillows of his own to sit down on, and he relaxed next to Diego. "Just put it on my tab I guess."

He knew it was a joke, but all the same he wondered where he could get a bag of cheetos. They couldn't be that expensive. And Diego really seemed to like the damn things.

"You know... this could be a pretty good place for a date, Diego. You thinking of taking a girl up here sometime?"

He smiled and leaned back, putting his arms behind his head in a way that really showed off his biceps. He'd seen the way Diego had been acting around him - and especially out here, he could afford to get bolder about it.

Eric loved Jazz. He really did. But...

Well, would it even count as cheating if it was another guy?

"Damn right I drive a hard bargain, I'm a man of the streets."
Diego bragged, and narrowed his eyes at Eric when he dodged his way out of paying the made up fee, and Diego pretended to think about it.
"Tab it is. But the interest rate is 20% so hurry up with the payment then."
Diego snickered and continued eating his cheetos. The dust from them was getting on his fingers, so occasionally Diego either dusted his hands, or swiftly licked them clean.

Diego's beloved cheetos almost made him meet his maker, when Eric caught him by surprise by suddenly talking about dates and girls. A cheeto got stuck in Diego's throat when he forgot to swallow, and after few strong coughs he was able to get it out.
Okay, wow, really subtle Diego. Great going.
"Uh, you know me, I'm kinda a lone wolf, I spit in the face of commitment and all that."
Jokes to the rescue. Diego laughed a bit nervously afterwards, and sent a little shaky grin at Eric. But all in all Diego managed to more or less seem like his normal self. He was definitely not picturing being on a date, maybe up here. Maybe with a guy. Maybe with Eri-

"And aren't you the one with a girlfriend? I can offer you this place as a date spot, and I got few even better ones. And you haven't seen this place when the sun sets, it's..pretty great."
Diego was able to maintain his grin, even though saying what he said kinda stung a bit, and during the end of the sentence Diego's voice had almost faltered. But Diego needed to remind himself that Eric was a straight guy with a girlfriend and Diego needed to stop imagining or hoping for dumb shit that would never happen. And he had to stop now when his crush or whatever this was wasn't that bad yet.

Eric enjoyed the banter. He enjoyed making this pretty gay bird boy squirm. But Diego just had to bring up the girlfriend, didn't he?

Eric stared out at the ocean and he gave it his best poker face. He took a deep breath.

There was a pause.

"You wanna wait for that sunset? It's almost late enough for it. And we could share my pot if you're into that." He was already pulling a joint out of a bag that was in his pocket. He showed it to Diego, giving him a questioning look

Diego had expected a different kind of answer to the girlfriend comment. Maybe bragging, or some more teasing. But instead Eric went serious. Diego looked at him a bit confused, was it not going well or something? What Diego had seen of the two he had concluded that they got along great. Diego kind of wanted to ask, but after a pause Eric started talking again and almost made Diego blush. Well, okay, made him blush, but it wasn't clear. Tan skin to the rescue again, what woumd Diego do without it?

"Uh, yeah, sure, sounds great. Gotta sample the date spot and all that, right?"
Diego said, and managed to make his laugh less nervous this time. He was a bit surprised that Eric had pot, although Diego wasn't new to it. Evie had let him try and some of his friends had done it back in Halcyon city.
"I could take a puff or too."
Diego agreed, he wasn't about to be a party pooper. Diego just ignored the fact that he lost some of his inhibitions when high, he could just take so little that he didn't end up so high that he did something...regrettable.

Eric pulled a lighter out of his pocket and got started. It was cool that marijuana was legal here; he doubted anyone would come by and double check they were old enough, or anything like that. "Jasmine doesn't know I smoke this stuff, though. It's kind of a bigger deal where we come from, so..." It was worth letting Diego know, so he didn't spill the beans.

Diego was really nervous, though. Eric had kind of been hoping Diego would make the first move, honestly, since he was pretty sure homosexuality was more okay where he came from. So he'd feel more comfortable about it, in theory. But, no, it was all on Eric.

He could get to that in a minute. He took the first few puffs and passed the joint. "You seem kinda nervous. Something bothering you, man?" He could almost beg Diego to fess up about his feelings for him. Before he started second guessing whether Diego was even attracted to him like that.
