Grabbing two plastic yellow pushpins from another older and now faded want ad, Azucena pinned her cute and colourful hand-drawn sign-up form to the school bulletin board for everyone to see.

Every October, for the last two years now, she had put up a similar sign-up form. She was looking for like-minded people who enjoyed nature walks and wanted to spend the day in the forest looking for things like wild chestnuts, brambleberries, or edible mushrooms.

This year, like every other year before, she hoped that more than two or three people signed up. It would be great if she could share her love of nature with other people. Though she had to admit that gathering mushrooms and wild blackberries was not something a lot of people her age consider "fun".

Yuki was in the midst of heading to the music rooms when he saw it: a girl putting a new poster up on the bulletin board. Yuki had been meaning to check the board regularly, but last time he'd looked all the posters had been outdated - not to mention most of them hadn't interested him in the least. I mean, what was fun exactly about a litter pickup? Or a group excursion to watch a local football exhibition match? Or a... Chicken factory? Yuki hadn't questioned it at the time, but now it sounded outright ridiculous.

Now at least this poster looked interesting. It was cute and well drawn, if not perhaps rough around the edges. It drew his eye enough to actively check it out. "Forest Forage: sign up now!" Yuki read aloud. It had a nice ring to it. Perhaps if Yuki joined this trip, he'd meet fellow lovers of the forest! He always felt drawn to it for some reason, and whenever he was there he somehow felt at ease. Quickly taking a pen from his pocket, he wrote his name in cursive and hurried after the girl who put the poster up.

"Hey there, I just signed up for your walk, and I was wondering... Who should I contact for more details?" Yuki asked, socialite mode on. Easy grin, relaxed but straight posture, head tilted slightly to the side... Check, check and check. He was easier to make friends with when acting this way, right?

Just as Azucena was walking away, unaware that somebody had already seen, signed up and expressed a real interest in her nature exploring ad, "Forest Forage", she heard a young man's voice behind her.

Turning her head to look at the person who had called out to her, Azucena slowed her pace so that she could talk to him.

"I guess that would be me actually," she explained, smiling back at him when he flashed her an easy and welcoming grin.

Yuki noticed that the girl hadn't quite stopped, so he fell into step beside her easily. It was a little hard to keep sight of her amongst the small throng of people passing throigh here and there during the lunch hour.
"Okay," He said, happy that the smile was reciprocated. "So uh, when is this thing taking place? And here do we meet?" Yuki's tentative side kicked in. He was the kind of person who wanted to know the whos, wheres, whats and whens of everything before properly committing to something, but this time it was the opposite way around. He'd have to do the detective work now - after signing up and not before. The thought of a relaxing day in the woods was still at the forefront of his mind, keeping him excited about the whole affair.

Would they meet at school? At the community centre? At the park? So many possibilities that needed to be ruled out. Not to mention the massive uncertainty of 'how big is this going to be?'

After they had passed a small throng of students milling around in the hall, Azucena gestured to a small alcove type area near a window that was a bit quieter so that they could talk.

"There," Azucena said with an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that but I am not a fan of crowds," she explained as she leant against the window sill.

"Well, I was hoping that Saturday or Sunday, depending which day is better for people, and I was thinking the first time, we might meet here first. There's this place, a small forest that I like to go to. It's not hard to get to, but it's kinda secluded," she told Yuki.

Yuki nodded, leaning against the wall as he listened. Mirroring was good - it was supposedly a way to show he was relaxed and eager to get along. The girl seemed nice enough anyway, so there wasn't any real reason to be nervous.

"No, I get what you mean. It's hard to think properly with so many people to maneuver around. I don't mind a secluded spot, so long as I roughly know where it is. If it's far, I might have to bring someone to accompany me - if that won't be a problem," he added. It would be kind of awkward to admit he was required to bring a bodyguard when going out to places further than a mile radius from his house, so he hoped she wouldn't ask.

"And sure, we can meet here! I hope someone else signs up too - it'd be more fun that way," he mused. "It'd be great if we could get a small group together!"

"No, no problem at all. Bring whomever you want, the more the merrier," Azucena replied, not at all taken aback or surprised by Yuki's request. It wasn't the first time someone had requested something odd from her before going on a hike., and to be quite honest, bringing another person along was not the strangest thing she had ever been asked.

Smiling for a moment at a friend, who greeted her, as they walked by, Azucena returned her attention to Yuki.

"Last year, we ended up with four members, so hopefully this year there will be a few more," she told him, feeling positive about the future of the group.

"Have you ever been part of a nature lovers group before?" Azucena asked, curious to know a little more about him.

"Oh, by the way, my name is Azucena," she told him, realising then that she hadn't even told him her name yet.

"Oh, that's right! Sorry for not introducing myself either. I'm Yuki." He said, laughing light-heartedly and surprised at his own forgetfulness. It was meant to be one of the first things you did when talking to someone new, right?

"I wouldn't mind even a group of 4, so long as it's a group that gets along well. I never really was the kind of person to arrange large group meetings." Yuki rubbed his neck at that, remembering the one time he'd tried to actually attend an unofficial class outing. It hadn't gone well.

"As for nature groups, I've never really been a part of one. I mean, I used to play in the woods a lot as a kid, but I stopped after I got lost one time. Ever since, I haven't had the chance to go so much..." He looked to the side, a somewhat guilty smile spreading across his lips. What exactly was he feeling guilty for, though? Not going to the woods so much?

" How about you? Was there a local group where you grew up?" He asked.

Azucena could empathize with Yuki. She had gotten lost more than a few times on her nature walks when she was younger, so she knew how scary it could be to suddenly not know where one was.

"I was born here actually... and no, not really...well, not any that I remember," she told him with a tiny shake of her head at his question about being part of a local nature group.

"My mother Desna would often go for wilderness treks when I was little, and she'd take me with her. We'd often pick berries, search for honeycomb in the late spring, or go fishing," Azucena explained, not adding the part that her adoptive mother was actually a real "mama bear", mainly because it only led to more questions about her family, and that was a very long conversation indeed.

"That sounds really sweet," Yuki replied, his eyes glazing over with old memories. He'd eaten a random berry he'd found once, but a kind stranger had seen and forced him to hack it up. At the time he'd found it terrifying and had begged them not to tell his parents before running home, but later he'd found out that he could have died. Since then, he'd never tried foraging alone ever again. Good memories, though.

"There was actually a small river by my house. I tried fishing once, but I didn't know that you were meant to use a rod back then!" He grinned, finding his own stupidity humorous. "Each time I went to grab a fish, it always slipped from my fingers. I came home soaking wet that day..."

Of course, he was hardly going to mention that all of these adventures took place on his enclosed estate grounds. He didn't need any eyebrow raising today.
