walkin' like a zombie

"Anyone else?" Hayate answered, who had he killed tonight? A hand snatched the scruff of Nixton's shirt, yanking him to his feet and holding him there. On closer look, he had a nice face and an odd set of eyes that forced the man to linger there for a little while. It'd be such a waste to kill him. A small smile crossed the hunter's features, though to someone that didn't know him well it probably would have come across as creepy. "I'm not gonna kill you. But I don't really wanna let you go either." Mainly because he was kind of cute and Hayate was just a little worried that this kid was as hopelessly lost as most creatures that wandered in here.

"Geez, you're little." He was slender and scrawny and it was a wonder that Sparky hadn't ended up snapping him in half as he'd pounced on him. "At least if I take you with me I can just lie and say I killed you, right? I get my cash, and you get to live. Fair deal?" His tone was more matter of fact than it should have been saying something like that, one of his ears twitched, and he lifted an eyebrow at the boy, hand still on the scruff of his shirt.

Nixton squealed automatically as he was yanked up by his shirt. Cringing and squirming, he desperately wanted to curl up back into the tiny ball he had so nicely worked himself into. Staring desperately up into the dog-man's face, Nix's eyes widened as he focused on what he was really looking at. Before, he had only registered that it was a male-man who was confronting him, but now, he could see that this person wasn't too bad to look at. With what little light he had, Nix admired the fair face of the man, and the interesting beads in his hair. A horrible grin had come upon his face, and Nix tried to worm away in vain. "Too little to kill. I'm just a baby."

"I won't run. You can get your money and I... I'll live somewhere else. You can let me go, I won't tell." He didn't like the way his shirt pressed so hard against his neck, and he whimpered faintly as he squirmed a little more. "What will you do with me after you have your money, though?" Thoughts of being murdered and tossed aside like a sack of flour crashed around his head, and he began to panic internally again. He had gotten good grades all his life, stayed out of trouble more or less, minded his own business. School hadn't prepared him for this. Grasping at the man's arm on his neck, Nixton whimpered a bit more pitifully than he had been shooting for. "I don't want to die."

I'm just a baby. Hayate let go of the boy's shirt. He didn't know how old the kid was, but he didn't look much older than seventeen, although the hunter was probably wrong. "Where do you come from?" He asked, feeling like he'd already asked that without receiving an answer. Was the boy a student? He'd never seen him around, but then again Hayate spent most of his time asleep in his house, he rarely actually attended school. Maybe he should start. He could at least take this kid back home and prod him about a bit before he let him go again, it was best that he was sure he was hidden rather than merely taking the word of a monster.

But he was an awfully cute monster, he was so little and skinny that Hayate almost wanted to mother him, like a dog and a stray kitten she might pick up. Frowning as that thought popped into his head, he wondered if that was what was happening. I don't get attached to things. Pushing the thought away, Hayate's attention set it's self back on the little zombie boy stood in front of him. "Don't you need to get out of here? Unless you know your way back." Unlikely.

Nixton pressed his lips together, avoiding that question once again. He didn't know where he had come from, really. He lived in the dorms now, but Nix didn't really think that the man was asking him where he lived. Giving an awkward shrug, Nix rather hoped his antagonist wouldn't press the point any further for the time being, and stared raptly up into the stranger's face. He had such a nice face, too. "Oh!" The man was right, and he really needed to go. He wanted to start waking up early in the mornings but he had been so hungry and just couldn't resist going out for a light hunt. Of course, then he'd been tailed and hounded into this miserable forest.

Bolting to one side without warning, Nixton only managed to make it about a foot away before turning himself around, jogging anxiously back towards the hunter, stopping as close as he dared without coming across as awkward. Besides that, he had threatened to shoot him if he ran, didn't he? "I'm... a bit lost... Where are we?" A small pout graced his lips, shuffling from one foot to the other. He'd been chased out further than he'd ever gone before, and to be quite honest, he was more than afraid.

Where are we? Hayate shrugged, "in the middle of a forest." He answered, without warning, the hunter snatched up the boy's wrist and tugged him to his side, though not in an aggressive manner as it had been before. At least one of them knew exactly where they were, he could either follow his nose or follow his dog, and that'd get them back out again so long as it didn't rain. And Hayate really hated the rain, it washed away smells and made his hair wet. In a place like this, he wasn't really sure he wanted his scent trail to be washed away. "Smells like rain, though." He answered, "so we should probably hurry up before I lose the way back."

If he remembered it was about half an hours walk back to somewhere vaguely recognizable and somewhere he could find his way out of without scent, and if the rain held up until then, he'd be okay. The hellhound had trotted out in front, following the path they'd taken to get this far. "Or get wet. I don't want to get wet either."

His arm was pulled, and Nix hurried into his rescuers side, lightly bumping into him and inching closer to burrow himself in the stranger. He was desperate for the warmth at the moment, his body wasn't very good at producing heat anymore, so it was always a luxury to be able to share someone's heat. Nix couldn't smell the rain, but in a weird, hopeless way he trusted the hunter to take him out of the rain and back to safety. From the corner of his eye, Nixton could see the hellhound, and it made him hiss quietly, flashing his little fangs.

"I... I like getting wet." Showers weren't so bad, especially if they were scalding hot. The thought made him shiver, suddenly wanting a hot bath. His fingers clutched at the stranger's, twining his fingers through and holding on tightly. He didn't like being lost, especially in a big dark scary forest like this one. Looking up at the hunter with an obvious admiration in his wide grey eyes, "I'm Nixton. Where are you taking me?"

"Really?" Hayate asked, lifting an eyebrow. He couldn't really understand why anyone would want to be caught in the rain, wet clothes, wet hair, cold. He shuddered at the thought and shook his head. The hunter raised an eyebrow as Nixton hissed again, realizing it was at the dog this time. "He's not gonna maul you to death, y'know. Not unless I tell him to." Sparky was a vicious creature, but he certainly wouldn't go as far as to do anything without his master's command. He knew he'd be scolded for it, and Sparky didn't like being scolded.

I'm Nixton. Where are you taking me? That made Hayate's chest feel strange, the fact the kid had a name. He wasn't sure why he hadn't expected him to have a name, but how many of the creatures he'd already killed had names and lives? That thought made the man pale slightly, and he pushed it out of his head. "I'm Hayate, and home, I guess." He could at least let him inside to warm up, Hayate had never really felt guilty before.
