“Of course,†Chloe told the guard. She wasn’t exactly being careful right now, though. This was probably an extremely stupid idea. She wondered if her father would buy the ‘I thought this was a guy who tried to assault me and I wanted to see him suffering’ story.
The guard gave her some annoyingly cryptic instructions. Follow the raven? What the hell was that supposed to mean? She hoped that it would be obvious when she got inside, but she didn’t notice the raven statuette at first.
She did notice some other things, though. Alcohol. Blood. Mysterious stains. Torn clothes. And… why would anyone ever want a dildo that big?
Focus. Chloe needed to focus. As interesting as her father’s sex life probably was, it was absolutely none of her business. She needed to get in, find out where those people were disappearing, and get out before Gabriel noticed anything. Christ, why did this have to be so complicated? Why couldn’t the people all be in plain sight so she could see them and leave already?
Aha! The raven! It was a little statuette in the living room!
…How was she supposed to follow it?
Well, there was supposed to be a switch, right? First, Chloe looked behind the painting the raven was pointing at. She found nothing but solid wall. She was starting to panic now; she wanted to leave. She wasn’t supposed to be here. This was stupid.
Wait. What if the raven itself was the switch? Chloe grabbed a few squares of paper towels from the roll of them in the kitchen; these would help her protect the statue from smudges. She started to tilt or rotate the raven in various directions. If that didn’t work, she would see if the tail or the beak or any other part of the raven itself could act like a lever.
