With the school day over, Remiel had packed up his things and headed home. The end of the school year was coming up and he had some studying he wanted to get working on. He was still dressed in the school uniform, with his backpack flying alongside him thanks to a set of wings attached to it.

He didn’t get far by the time an unfamiliar voice called out to him. “Hey angel?!”

Turning around, the angel found two other students. A quick scan using his halo revealed them to be demons, which meant this was going to be a not so fun conversation. “Yes?...”

Each of them were taller than him, but his flight meant that they weren’t looking down. The looks on their faces made it clear they weren’t happy about something. “Did you seriously tell our sister’s friend to stay away from her?”

A brief moment of thinking had Rem recalling at least two situations they could be talking about. Needless to say, there was a good chance he had done whatever they were upset about. “We are not to fight on school property, I’m going home, goodbye.” Rem began to fly away before noticing something was wrong. His backpack wasn’t following him. Turning around revealed that the other two had taken it.

One had taken out his phone, waving it at him as he came back. “I’m gonna figure out who your friends are and tell them to stay away from you.”

“Give it back!” He wasn’t allowed to fight demons here, putting him in a difficult situation.

Kenaz hadn't been on the island long, enough to move in and start a few classes, but that was about it. He found himself wandering, at times observing others from a distance, the island was an incredibly strange place to him.

He'd seen the small group of demons from afar, picked up their scent, as well as the scent of another individual. The shadow demon would wander a bit closer, his ears picking up the conversation. It was obvious the demons were hostile to the smaller being, who seemed to be an angel. Kenaz considering walking away, letting it play out, but then he remembered the demons he knew, and how cruel they were.

Stepping into a shadow he'd emerge from another, the shadow of one of the demonic bullies. He'd quickly lift the two students, growling at them. "Leave 'n go," he'd say simply, growling again, dropping them and letting them scurry away.

He'd turn to the angel, looking at him curiously. "You hurt?" he'd say in his rough voice, his nose twitching, his face still grim and angry as always.

When picked up, the demon holding the bag and phone dropped them, mostly just surprised. It took each of them a second to gather themselves after getting dropped themselves. But once they did, they walked away, grumpy looks on their faces. “Stay away from our sis!”

Rem was equally shocked, also taking a moment to collect himself before figuring out what happened. He’d been saved? He hadn’t been saved by anyone before, it felt nice that someone was looking out for him but at the same time kind of humiliating.

“I am not. I am an angel, I am more than capable of dealing with demons.”

His voice sounded a little salty, getting quiet as he said “But, thank you I guess...”

The tall boy would tilt his head. "Didn't fight though?" he didn't understand why the angel didn't fight, he'd always been told that angels would always attack demons. He'd look at the smaller a boy a moment.

"You an angel?" he sorta looked like the ones he was told about, but smaller, and lacking the armor and wespons made from burning light. He'd sniff the air a little, adjusting the collar of his shirt to keep it from rubbing his bandages. A part of him wanted to leave, but he was also weirdly curious.

"Who you?" he'd ask with an grunt, the small angel was the first student he'd ever spoken to, as well as the first angel.

“I- I only resort to violence when it is absolutely necessary. I’m not supposed to be fighting demons here.” Rem sighed. “And yes, I am an angel, that’s what I just said.”

The bluntness of Kenaz and how he spoke was a little off putting to say the least, giving Rem vibes that perhaps this guy wasn’t from around here.

“I’m Remiel, the-“ He cut himself off. He’d gotten used to leaving his title out of introductions here but it was still a bit of a habit at times. “And you? What’s your name?”

Kenaz would tilt his head curiously when the angel cut himself off, seems like there was more to his name. The shadow hesitated when asked for his name, he wasn't sure who he could trust, let alone an angel.

He'd glance in the direction the demons had fled. "Not necessary?" they were harassing him, taking his things. "Seem necessary."

"Kenaz.....'m Kenaz," it was incredibly unlikely they the angel had heard of him, the renegade demon slave. "New here?" he'd ask the angel, adjusting the bandages on his neck, the heat was starting to irritate it.

Remiel didn't make another comment on how necessary or unnecessary violence was in that situation. As much as he wanted to believe he didn't need help there, what this guy had done certainly made things easier for him.

Kenaz. That was a name he hadn't heard before. "Not really. I mean, I am somewhat new still I suppose. Depends on what you'd count as new, I've been here a few months. What about you?" If the angel had to guess, he'd say this guy was probably pretty new himself, probably even more so. It was hard to say for certain with how a lot of the people on the island were though.

"A week....I've been here a week," he'd say with a nod. "Is different here, strange," it was all strange to him, hell this conversation was strange. "There is....a lot to see, to get used to."

He'd look at Rem for a moment. "You....you are very small," he'd tilt his head, "thought all angels were big big." Armored Angel's of light, that's what he'd always been told they were.

That made sense. Rem frowned at the mention of how strange this place was. He couldn’t disagree with that. “Yeah, there is... There’s weird places, technology and they don’t teach everyone properly so people have a lot of crazy beliefs.”

On a regular day, the comment about him being small would only bother him a little, but this particular day was only a few weeks from his 15th birthday. He was doomed to grow up even slower from now on and it would likely be a long while before he stopped being short. He was still getting over the fact.

“That’s not true. Angels come in all sorts of sizes and whatever that size may be, it says very little about the overall strength and capabilities of the angel.” There was a pinch of annoyance to his words.

"Crazy....beliefs?" he'd say it slowly, still adjusting to being able to talk freely. "What beliefs?" he'd ask, he had some ideas, but he was completely sure. "What 'on't they teach right?"

He'd look at him a moment, tilting his head. "Small angels can be strong?" he'd ask, remembering the things he'd been taught back home.

"I only heard of the big angels....the warrior angels......and the archangels." The enemies of his hell, the angels of the military outposts.
