Even with everything that was going on with the island, school seemed to continue as normal. As much as Alby wanted to be out there trying to figure out why the world was on fire as of late, he also cared about his schoolwork. So on this particular day, he found himself indoors, in the library, writing an english assignment.

It was mostly empty in there and very quiet, so he managed to get a book out and get a good start on the assignment without any distractions. He understood that the sooner he finished it, the sooner he could head back out again, so he worked pretty efficiently. He didn’t sacrifice the quality of his work either. He made sure he was doing it right.

Lord but this school was getting on her nerves this month. Not that Minnie was ever at ease here with all these supposed monsters running about, most people claiming to be something magical or mythical as if being human wasn't good enough for them. Well she didn't believe it, even though she still wasn't sure why she had to be caught up in it.

At least most people had stopped insisting that she wasn't human or at least stopped saying it to her face. But now - all Minnie really wanted to do was hole up in her dorm room with a book and not deal with people. Unfortunately her roommate wouldn't let her be. Wherever she tried to hide, people kept noticing her.

So she'd gone to the library. She was hoping to find some place out of the way, but most seats already had a person nearby. Annoying. She grabbed a book, not quite paying attention to it, then looked around for somewhere to sit. Seeing one table occupied by a boy apparently doing homework, Minnie sat down at the only other available chair. At least this way there was only one person and maybe he'd be too busy to bother her. At least that's what she hoped when she opened up her own book.

Alby glanced up when the girl sat down at the table with him. In almost any other setting, he wouldn't be opposed to starting up a conversation, but since this was the library he just kept at working on his assignment. His head quickly turned back to his work and he carried on.

However, that only lasted so long. Something about that girl next to him was making it hard to focus. He was getting majorly weird vibes from her and it was impossible for him to put a finger on why that would be. One glance up and quickly back down told him that the girl looked normal enough, so what was it?

Eventually, Alby just caved, quietly whispering to the girl "Hey, excuse me, I'm writing a paper on special abilities, and I just realized I need to ask someone who actually has abilities a few questions... Do you happen to have any unusual skills?" That was a lie, his assignment had nothing to do with that, it was on some random book. He just hoped his question would finally give his head an answer so he could get back to focusing on his work.

Minnie gave a put upon sigh - so much for not being bothered today. She briefly considered just ignoring the boy, but she knew from experience that just made it worse. Besides, she realized on looking down at her book that it was some language she didn't know, and she'd feel silly just pretending to read.

"I don't think I've got any unusual skills, no." She kind of snapped off her answer. And it was true - even if she did have that aura thing like people said, that wasn't exactly a skill, and she didn't think whistling was unusual. But then she took pity on the boy. At least he was bugging her because of homework. Maybe he'd leave her alone if she gave an answer.

Holding up her arm, Minnie pointed at her aura warning bracelet. It was on over her sleeve, so she wouldn't have to roll the sleeve up to show it. "The school says I have this aura thing. They say lots of things though. I'm not having it. Still they call that an ability. I don't know if that'll help, seeing as it's not a thing I control."

Dang. He was honestly a little disappointed when Minnie first told him she didn't have any abilities. Or at least that she didn't think she did, which meant the same thing in Alby's mind. But then came the aura bracelet, an easily identified item that seemed to say otherwise.

When the aura bracelet came out, Alby's eyes grew wide with excitement. Seemingly equal and opposite to the lack of excitement expressed on Minnie's end. "No no, that's perfect!" Alby quickly covered his mouth, realizing he'd been a touch too loud there. With a few odd looks from others, he brought his voice back to a whisper and tried again. "That's perfect. What does your aura do?"

Rolling her eyes, Minnie huffed at the boy's excitement. She supposed she didn't really mind the attention and it could always be worse. But it annoyed her that he was so focused on the so called magic.

"Well I don't really know the details. I think people just use it as an excuse for... things." She waved a hand vaguely, mostly suppressing a shudder at what people could excuse. She didn't want to give a lot of details either. Sure they were in a library, and the boy looked harmless, but Minnie knew what people were like behind closed doors. No need to give him too much ammo.

"It supposedly makes me.. look pretty I guess." A massive oversimplification maybe, but not a lie. "What about you? Don't you need a 'special ability' to come here?" She said with obvious skepticism, though she avoided actually making air quotes with her fingers.

Alby squinted his eyes as Minnie explained that they didn't know the details. The people using it as an excuse for things comment didn't help him understand much either.

"Look pretty? You mean like an illusion?" The way Minnie was explaining this probably made Alby more interested than if she went ahead and gave him all the details. He then went on to answer her question about him. "Oh, well yeah, I'm a psychic." Alby put two fingers on each of his temples. "But I can't use my own abilities for this paper." Alby made sure to clarify why he wasn't using his own powers for his fake report, if he didn't, they probably would've been suspicious.

Minnie sighed. Sure the boy was asking about her abilities for school, but she would rather not discuss them at all. Certainly not as anything more in depth than a quirk of nature. "Maybe." She answered, hoping the short answers would put him off. For all she knew, her aura might be considered illusion. She hadn't wanted to look into it.

She raised an eyebrow at the boy's declaration. "A psychic, eh?" That was less flashy than a lot of things she'd heard on the island. "So, what? You sees the future? " Minnie smirked at a sudden image of the boy in front of her wearing a silly hat and looking into a crystal ball.

Alby let out a soft chuckle. "No, as cool as that would be. I'm Telekinetic!" He got a little too loud again, quickly calming and quieting himself down. "I'm telekinetic. I can lift stuff with my mind."

He was quite passionate about his less than amazing power, but he still wanted to steer the conversation back to Minnie's powers rather than his own. "So... back to your powers, I get that you don't know much about them, is there anything else you do know?"

This boy was certainly enthusiastic. Minnie was almost jealous of how happy he seemed about his powers. But then he probably didn't have people saying he wasn't human because of telekinesis. That was an ability that seemed like it could happen even outside of this crazy magic island.

"Look. I knows you said this is for a project, but I sure ain't happy about anything these people claim I have. I'd rather not be away from home on some strange island where everyone's saying they have magical abilities and acting all high and mighty. I don't want, I don't want to be a freak. I just want my family back. So no, I don't know much else." She sighed. "Why not ask someone else?"
