With how life was going, Remiel actually somewhat enjoyed class. Apart from being stuck in a room with multiple demons, it was pretty good. It allowed him to continue learning and gave him somewhere to succeed and impress.

Just as he did on any other day, he headed to his science class and sat in his usual spot near the middle of the class. And just as the teacher did any other day, he began to teach about the wonders of science. All was good, at least, until the final few minutes.

The teacher began to hand out simple pink sheets of paper, a project and a rather large one at that. They had to create a presentation of sorts relating to science. Essentially they were going to have a mini science fair.

Rem had few problems with the assignment itself. What did bother him was the fact that this was a group project. He was to work in a pair of two. He already disliked group work, but it was the name of his partner that really hammered the nail into his coffin. Amber Black.

He glanced briefly to the demon before looking back at the sheet

Shortly after an explanation by the teacher about the project and how both members of the team had to make sure they worked together, the teacher allowed everyone to find their partners and start figuring out a plan for the remainder of the class.

Remiel sighed, getting out of his chair, grabbing his textbook and heading to meet Amber. His face didn’t make it seem like he was particularly delighted about this.

On contrast to Remiel's dissatisfaction, Amber seemed rather delighted to working with Remiel. Of course she knew all about his disdain for demon-kind but... well aside from that tiny but glaring issue she knew that he was good person at heart. Hopefully being forced to work together will make him see that she was nothing close to evil demons that he was probably grew up hearing about. While Dalia may have not been able to knock some sense into him... she hoped her good example will lead him to reconsider his viewpoint. It was almost like it was all going according to her evil plan... except she wasn't evil and that she honestly didn't plan for this.

"Hey Remiel! Nice to be working with you partner~ Can you believe that we are already working on our end of the year science project?" chittered-chatted Amber as Remiel begrudgingly approached her. She could see that Remiel was... well no happy camper but she wasn't going to let that distract her from her mission of changing Remiel's ways nor her record as perfect student.

"Anyway... so... the teacher has given us quite a lot of freedom on what our project could be and I have a couple of ideas of what we could pursue but... I first want brainstorm a few ideas with you first before we commit to anything. Like... testing the ability of animal to memorize a test, or testing which types of seeds attract which birds in different locations on the island, or testing how an increasing sugar content effect a cake or... I dunno I am sort of running with a lot of ideas in my head." stated Amber as she jots down the ideas she just listed on piece of notepaper. After she setting down the pencil she looks back to Remiel and speaks up.

"What about you Rem, do you have any ideas on what you want to do? Oh is it okay that I call you Rem? Or do you prefer going by Remiel?"

Rem listened. The entire time Amber spoke, he just looked at her like she was spitting lies at him. There was no way she could be that enthusiastic about any of it. Even after she asked him questions, he just sighed again and went in a whole other direction.

"Look, how about I just do the project myself. I really don't mind picking up the slack and everything will just be easier for you. You get to slack off and when I'm done I'll just give you a sheet of paper with what to say, you can memorize it the night before and Mr. Colin will never know the difference." It was a somewhat deceitful move to pull on a teacher of all people and he felt guilty just saying it, but in the end it would be for the better, he just knew it.

Now, according to Remiel's vast knowledge of the demon race, he knew for a fact that Amber would drop her good girl act and jump right on that offer.

Amber could only stare blankly at at Remiel, trying to process what he just said. Did he just volunteer to do the project by himself? She had no idea what that was about but she wasn't about her partner suffer through all the hard work himself.

"Well... I mind. I mean its very kind of you to offer but I just can't do that to you. It is super unfair of me to leave you to do all the work by yourself. I mean... I've had bad partners who left me entire assignments before so I'm not about to let that happen to you okay? Besides... this is a big project so we need to help each other as much as we can." her tone was calm and she looked to Remiel sympathetically, believing that poor Remiel a victim of a string unreliable partners in the past. Well she was about to show him different.

"Anyway, you still haven't told what sort of ideas that you have. What sort of experiments are you thinking Remiel about that we can run together?" spoke up Amber as lifts up her pencil and she brandishes a friendly smile.

Seriously? Rem just stared, mostly annoyed as Amber turned the offer down. Why couldn’t she just take the out when he offered. She genuinely must’ve wanted to work on the project with him but in Rem’s eyes that was more concerning than anything. She must’ve had some ulterior motive. Perhaps it would lead to a trap or maybe she just wanted to watch him suffer. Either way, as long as she wasn’t willing to sit out, there wasn’t much he was going to be able to do. He’d just have to stay on guard and suffer through it.

He went into a brief period of thought when Amber asked if he knew about any experiments they could do. Truth be told, he kind of liked the one about seeing which seeds attracted which birds, but he couldn’t let her know that so he had to come up with something new...

That was easier said than done. He didn’t have much experience with science fair type stuff and the only topic he could think of was the unoriginal baking soda volcano.

Eventually his eyes went to the side and he finally spoke, though he sounded a little grumpy about it. “I guess the bird idea wasn’t that bad. If you absolutely feel the need to work on it together then I guess we can do that one. We could talk about why the birds are attracted to different seeds and relate it back to their beak shapes...”

Though Remiel was annoyed, Amber didn't really pick on it as she dwell on her own proposals. There was a lot for her consider and glancing over at Remiel's thoughtful expression it seemed that he had a bit trouble coming up with anything. When he atlas resigned and suggest they try do an investigation on the birds and seeds, Amber was eager to latch onto it.

"We can do that one!" chirped Amber, happy Remiel warmed up to one of her suggestions and completely looking past the grumpiness. With big grin on her face she draws a big fat circle around the bird seed experiment that she had earlier jotted down.

"Yeah so shape of bird's beak reflecting its preferred seed type can be part of our hypothesis!" blurted Amber as they then starts writing down her hypothesis and begins to draw up an outline on how to run their experiment "Okay so... my hypothesis is that birds with larger beaks will prefer larger seeds with tougher shells while birds with smaller beaks will prefer smaller seeds. Kinda like with Darwin's finches. What about you Remiel? What is your prediction?"

Amber was still too excited about this and it bothered him. At the very least, Rem did kind of like their topic. He’d always really liked birds so it was something he could enjoy learning about. Well, almost, he still had to deal with Amber.

“I don’t think I’m familiar with anyone named Darwin, but for the most part I guess that’s mostly true. Maybe I’d change it a little though. I think the toughness of the seed has more to do with the shape of the beak than the size. Like a larger but longer beak wouldn’t be as good at cracking a tough seed as a smaller but shorter beak.” As he explained, he started to lighten up a little, even if he didn’t notice himself doing it.

"Mhmmm-hmm! I like your thinking on that. Okay that can be our hypothesis going into the experiment. So now I think we need to come with a methodology to test it." she then strokes her chin for a moment, then starts drawing a couple of birdfeeder concepts and listing down a list of possible locations.

"Okay so... I am think we can do is having a cluster of birdfeeders filled with different types of seeds and we can have a camera that watches over then? That we can can review the footage to see what sort birds we have in the area and which seeds they are going for. We can also measure how much of the seeds the birds are eating by measuring the feeders by the end of each day as we go check on the camera recording. Oh and for locations I was also think we have multiple set-ups. Like... one in Oceania Park, one somewhere at the school and one at the edge of the forest and see we find different populations of birds depending on location. What do you think about all of that Remiel? Anything you think that we need to add or consider?"

Rem shrugged. “Yeah, I guess that’s fine. We could maybe put one close to the ocean or by the lake too. Maybe the lake would be a good spot for the edge of forest one actually...” He seemed to consider that. Four places seemed like a good number. The park, the lake, the school, and by the ocean.

“As for the design of the bird feeders, we probably want something simple that we can make a bunch of but that also forces the birds to pick up the seeds themselves. Something like a tray design.” He moved his hands in a circular motion in front of him as if to outline a tray shape. I have plenty of wood and rope in my room so making those wouldn’t be very difficult.”

Rem let out a quiet gasp and then forced a sigh as he returned to being a grump. It was like he’d forgotten what Amber was for a minute there.

“Anyway the hardest part as far as I’m concerned is the camera. The only camera I have is on my phone and I’m afraid that probably wouldn’t work too well for this.”

"Mhmm... yeah we can add location at the beach. Kinda of curious what sort of birds we will have at the beach aside from seagulls. And that is good suggestion about setting up close to the lake." agreed Amber and she notes down Remiel's ideas on her piece of paper which is looking to be a bit full now.

"Honesty I thought we could just buy a bunch birdfeeders from a store but if you really want to we can try to build our own. Since you have pretty good idea on how build I guess I can leave it up to you to build them but there is any way that I can help please just me know. I think making our own is probably good thing if plan on using larger seeds use larger for our project."

While Remiel was a bit concerned about camera, Amber didn't think of it as much of problem. Like... she was pretty sure she could borrow a security camera at home but is not she was also confident that her mom and aunt would foot the bill for a few outdoor camera to indulge in her science project. Its not like she was usually a demanding child or anything.

"I'm pretty sure I can get us couple of cameras that can watch over the birds. I might already have few at home I could borrow for our experiment. I'll talk to my mom and aunt about it and see what our options are. If worst comes to worst and I can't get camera, I think what we might have arranged us watching and recording the feeders themselves. But like I said, I'll talk to my folks first and see where we go from there." assured Amber, confident in her ability to procure the cameras.
