The answer to that question was simple and clear: "It hurts you for anyone, even yourself, to witness or know it. So of course I'm going to keep it a secret. But maybe your past holds the key, in a passing glance, to something that can help you out."

"Well, assuming you keep the scroll around, at least. Should be safe to dispose of it, after all the memory cannot be tampered with."
, for as much as they tried to stop Carmin's past from flowing the fated direction, it was like trying to wind back time... Impossible.

Perhaps Sumi had a point. Maybe if he watched the events replayed in front of him, he could pick up on something the witch said that he might've overlooked. Maybe she gave him a hint on how to undo the curse and he just never picked up on it. Then again, even if that was the case, it sounded like she'd made it permanent when she laughed at him the very last time he'd seen her. And he'd still have to sit through that nightmare again, probably for nothing. Keeping the scroll around also posed the risk of someone else finding it. He didn't really tell any of these thoughts to Sumi though.

"Right, I will uh, decide what to do with this later..." He held up the scroll, still gripping it much tighter than necessary. "I guess I'll just be heading home now..." His voice was still rather shaky.

Noticing the shaken tone on Carmin's voice, Sumi stepped up to him and put a hand on his shoulder. "It will be alright. We are here for you.", the reason the wolf boy used the plural was subtle, but Carmin should catch on: the plant boy must have other people looking after him, wanting to help and/or uncurse him.

"Want me to help you in something? Oh, maybe I could do some art to cheer you up! Or could give you private lessons!", the wolf boy's skin was regaining its usual tone... Or perhaps better, he did seem more alive now.

We? What did Sumi mean by that? It went right over Carmin's head, getting dismissed as probably a slip up.

It was nice that Sumi wanted to cheer him up, he really was a good guy, but Carmin didn't really feel up for it at the moment. "I, uh, kinda gave up on learning to draw. It's alright, I think I'm just going to go home for now." He rubbed his arm nervously. He'd recently been told not to turn down people when they reach out to him, but this was a tough situation.

"But I have not given up on you. There's hope for you, even if you can't see it yet. Tomorrow by the lake, I'll bring my stuff and let you borrow it.", Sumi sounded happier in a contrast with Carmin's self-loathing thoughts, "Don't you worry any little, everything will be fine! So, if you have to go... Please keep in mind the things I have been telling you."

Carmin didn't understand how anyone could be so positive all the time. Nothing ever seemed to get Sumi down and it honestly baffled him.

It didn't feel like he was being asked if he wanted to go practice art, more so that he was being told. But at the end of the day it problem wouldn't hurt to go hang out by the lake again tomorrow. It was something to do, a distraction, and those could be nice.

"Alright fine, I'll come to the lake after school..." He looked away for a moment. "I'm gonna get going now, I'll see you later." And with that, he started shuffling home.

"See you then, Carmin.", Sumi saw him off, hopeful that the plant boy would hold onto every little hint of hope there is, no matter how small it may seem. As for the wolf boy himself? He would see himself going to check in for power classes. "With new powers comes an unimaginable responsibility now... I wonder if a Great Deity is looking after me or something.", as he pondered he walked his own way.
