Asai Kokoro
“Welcome to the Academy, gentlemen. All of the children that we work on have different qualities that make each and every one of them important. Some of them have magic, others can transform, and some have metal fused with their bones. Each one of them is the Academy’s pride and joy. Those that fail and do not meet the required standards go on the junk pile to be recreated. This is Experiment 17. He is our most successful experiment yet. He is completely disconnected from his emotions, and he can kill without hesitation.”
- I am merely a tool to be used. A trained weapon. Taught to respond to commands and orders. -
"Can he demonstrate this?"
- I have no emotions, I have no thoughts of my own, no words to speak. I am a being that merely responds, merely serves. -
"Experiment 17, exterminate."
- Yet... what is this inside me? I can not bring myself to kill another. I am confused as to why they would want an innocent person dead. I will not respond. I will not... -
"He is showing hesitance. I thought you said he had no weakness. Professor, we can not use weapons that do not respond. You understand the consequences yes?"
"But Commander I..."
"You understand yes?"
"Yes..."
"I am nothing more than a being who must serve, yet I am a serving being with no one to serve." The boy looked over the edge of the school's rooftop. He was enrolled at this school to learn to read and write, but he did not understand why they required this of him. He had done his duties well, and he was up to standard, but yet... here he was, at school. He understood what a school was, and what a school tried to do, but he did not understand how. He had been given a map, hence why he was on the roof. He was exploring the school and getting a feel for it. He felt more comfortable if he knew where he was going and what he was doing. He had memorized the whole school at this point and had nothing to do, so he was just aimlessly on the roof thinking about things - specifically his past. He was beginning to question the 'why' of it all.
