TV is weird...

Late one evening, floating in the middle of the room, Laetus was up watching the t.v. in the student lounge. As the strange flashing box went on about some and such work out equipment, Laetus began to drift to the side until he was upside down.
"This is human entertainment?" He mumbled to himself as he reached up/down to tap at the remote control on the table under him. As he clicked around, he became more and more confused.
"Everyone seems to want to sell me something... "

well hey, hey baby it's never too late, pretty soon you

won't remember a thing. and i'll be distant as stars
reminiscing, your heart's been wasted on me.

Her mouth opened wide in a yawn and fingers rubbed at her tired eyes. She had just finished studying, and then took a quick after-study flight. And she was cold. It was way too cold in this new world for Elatia's liking. Back home, the weather was always warm and gentle. The wind was wretched! Elatia entered the student lounge where her peers enjoyed time to themselves or to converse with one another. Elatia was no different. She saw a boy, much taller than herself, floating around and focusing deeply on a box that had moving pictures on it. A television, she reminded herself. it was intriguing. "Such an odd thing." She pointed to the box that Laetus was floating around. Elatia also wasn't quite sure how such an object worked. At first, she had believed the images, so small, were inside the box, but that had been proven false. The young girl turned her attention to the boy, watching him curiously.

Laetus nodded, glancing over at the young woman. "Indeed. I really don't get why humans love this box so much. It just seems to be other humans trying to sell each other things."
He continued to tap through the channels with one hand, but is now paying less attention to the box and more to the girl.
"So what brings you here this late?"

Duno if I was clear, but every channel has hit that time where its just infomercials. So like 2 or 3 am XP This has nothing to do with what you said, just wanted to be clear.

As she came to stand nearer Laetus, so she could better see the moving pictures, Elatia canted her head. There were baubles and trinkets being shown on the screen of the box and words that seemed to be describing said objects. Odd, she thought. Then there were breaks in that program for other things for which she had no name. All she could do was laugh even as she rubbed at her eyes once more. She paused in her movements, hearing the male ask what brought her to the lounge at such a late hour.

"I was studying. I lost the tracking of the hours." Elatia collapsed into the chair nearest the floating boy and she craned her neck to peek at him with a lopsided smile.

"And you? Sleep is good." Truer words have never been uttered before, at least in her opinion. Elatia let her eyes drift back toward the box that was advertising some mechanical device that would make styling one's hair a 'breeze.'

"Sleep?" He questioned. "Then what would I do during my boring classes tomorrow?"
He then turned his attention back to the tv. Normally such a statement would be said with a hint of sarcasm, but Laetus said it quite matter-of-factly.
Every once in a while, one would notice Laetus glancing out the window in between channel flipping.

A singular eyebrow arced when he mentioned class next day. He would be sleeping through the less exciting ones it seemed. Elatia had never thought to do that before. She had trouble sleeping ever since the shift to the Earthly plane. Elatia had tried to tell herself it was because of such a drastic change. But in reality, it was because she had horrifying nightmares.

"Isn't that trouble?" She was sure he would get reprimanded for sleeping during class. Not that it was her issue, really. Elatia loved some mischief. But that just seemed like he was begging for a bad day. She watched him as he cast his gaze toward the window every once in awhile. A few times, she, too, looked outside. All she saw was the dark of the night with stars twinkling overhead.

"What is outside?" The blonde girl shifted in her chair to better look at the boy, many questions forming in her head as she awaited an answer.

Laetus laughed. "As long as you pass their nonsense tests, no one cares what you do."
Laetus continued to glance out the window, and it started to get more frequent.
"Nothings out there..." He said with a lack of confidence not heard in his voice before. "At least not yet... "
He smiled, though it held the same lack of confidence. "Just waiting for the sun to rise."

She smiled politely at Laetus when he mentioned passing tests. That was not her strong suite, at all. She had always been lacking in that department, even back home. Although, the learning center there had been much more open and free form. There weren't so much classes as gatherings to share information, but they would often have 'live questioning,' where anyone could answer or ask anything about the subjects. She missed that. Elatia snorted some when he said nothing was out there. Well something is troubling you, she thought to herself.

"I believe you are falsehooding me. Let me retry then." Her eyes watched him closely for a moment before she continued.

"What are you expecting to be seeing outside then?" It was something he seemed to be expecting, and yet, not looking forward to. Elatia doubted the sun's waking had any bearing on the way the boy was feeling or acting. So, she waited - patiently.

Laetus sighed and waved it off. "Don't worry about it. I'm just being paranoid." He answered as he tapped away. Eventually a commercial caught his eye. Something colorful and full of different characters. Some kind of gaming system, it seemed.

Maddie walked the halls of dorms. Many and many of them. She clearly wasn't around her own dorm anymore, if even in the same grade dorms.

This was not the first time Maddie stayed up late. She usually had nightmares that had her gasping and jumping nearly out of bed. Sometimes, Bandit, her faithful dog would follow her on her nightly explorations, but more often than not he would give her an irritated look and go back to sleep.

Tonight she explored alone, trying to keep to her human skin as she did. It would have been more comforting to walk the halls as a coyote or a lynx, but she had to get comfortable with herself. This was something she knew as fact.

The sound of t.v. drew her attention to the student lounge, where she stood in the doorway for a time and looked in. Her eyes were drawn more to the colorful screen than the two inside. Tv had been a comfort to Maddie for as long as she could remember.

Her eyes drifted to the man floating and the girl next. Someone floating in public...er, semi-public. This was still new to Maddie. The idea that so many people with different powers were around her, and these powers were accepted and open.

Tentatively, Maddie walked further into the room.

"Whatchya guys watchin'?" she asked.
