In the minutes prior, Loralei felt as though there was a shield protecting her and her newborn daughter from the world. Her focus was captivated under her tiny face, all the way up until her husband walked into the room. At that point, her own weary gaze focused on Carl. She had been waiting for this moment. The exact fragment of time in which they became a full family.

It was a rarity to see him so silent, as well as so lost for emotion. She could tell by his features that he was attempting to figure out what all of this meant as well. Something had stirred in the two of them that they hadn’t felt before, which came as a huge relief to Loralei to know that she wasn’t the only one feeling this. At least, that was what the silence between them told her.

As she handed off their newborn baby to him, she gently grazed her hands over his to guide him on how to hold her comfortably and properly. It almost looked as if he hadn’t been around small children in… Centuries, honestly. But Loralei smiled. That was okay, they’d learn together. She grunted a bit as she wearily sat herself up some more, crossing her arms loosely over her midsection. She just wanted to fully witness their first interaction as she imprinted it almost immediately into her memory. She chuckled in a faint tone as their baby reached up to try to get the shiny orbs around his head, only to speak up at Carl’s confusion at her intent.

"It looks like your orbs caught her attention. Everything is so new to her, after all. Although..." Loralei trailed off as she noticed that their little girl cooed again after he spoke up. "It might also help that she’s seeing your face for the first time after hearing you for so long."

In the silence that followed her explanation, the shiny orbs that caught their child’s eyes stirred up a bit more of a reaction. This caused her to laugh her first tiny laugh, weak in sound but still impactful given her mother’s bright smile. "Looks like she loves you already."

At Carl's response, Loralei was admittedly taken back. She shook her head, though ultimately couldn't be mad. She wouldn't say this out loud, but there was much she felt he could learn. Maybe it was a new mother thing, but in this case Lori just knew. To call her instincts for the small child 'just a hunch' would be an understatement. Maybe Carl was right about one thing though, that this child had cast a spell on them. At least that was something feasible that she could use to explain why she felt so... Different, now.

"You'd be surprised. A baby can pick up a lot even before its born." She muttered, parroting almost what a doctor had told her months ago. Shaking off that thought though, he attention was taken over by the fact her child had produced her first indication of magic. Her mother's magic. "Well, looks like we've got another genie living under our roof." She smiled, though her expression wavered when a realization came to her. "But... She's not tied to a lamp or master or anything. So that means..."

A soft chuckle came from her. "Well, I'll be damned. She could very well have all the power in the world at her fingertips when she gets older. Gotta say, I'm kinda jealous."

Just as her voice trailed off for a moment, Loralei's mind traced to the possibilities. Now, she wasn't in line of her father's magic in terms of damage, but she very well could be a master illusion caster in her later years. At least she wouldn't have a rule book or master to tell her what to do. She looked back up to Carl to see him casting a small flame for his child to see. She smiled faintly. "Better keep an extra careful eye on her. Even though she-"

Her voice cut of suddenly when the tiny baby started to cry. Almost instantly, Lori's arms shot out to take the upset thing, moving her to cradle her carefully against her chest. "Shh... Shh... It'll be okay..." Lori whispered in a voice almost inaudible to anyone but the baby. A soft kiss was placed on the child's forehead, and already it began to call down. The moments after that were silent. A few seconds passing to allow the small child to fully relax. It was then that Lori spoke up again.

"I guess we gotta tell the doctors her name, too."

Maybe it was her touch or her familiar smell, but it appeared that for now the child wished to stay with her mother. In turn, the new mother’s eyes were fixated on the little one’s tiny face, the area now around her white eyes a bit puffy thanks to the sudden teary outburst. Good thing the crisis was over now anyway, considering Lori was a bit too tired to deal with any more stress for the day. The sound of running water lifted her gaze up to see Carl wetting a cloth of sorts. Holding the baby carefully, she sat herself up a bit more in a slow manner while he approached her side. More than eagerly resting her cheek in his cool hands, which felt nice against her heated complexion given by the work she had to put in. The sentiment he gave her though caused her to scoff, almost insulted by the implication that she was a lazy sort of individual. Which… Eh, that actually might be sort of true. But still. She held her tongue from saying something she would regret, for her exhaustion left her in no mood to retort. Yet.

Her husband’s sudden call for his own brand of excitement caused his child to perk up a bit. The orbs and his motions seemed to capture her attention as Lori felt her wiggle a bit in her arms. But the movements weren’t what caused her to raise a brow. He was going on another one of his tangents again, something that Lori found endearing in a funny sort of way. She can’t even sit up on her own yet. I think she’d ought to learn how to do that before plotting world domination. She thought to herself with a bit of a smirk. She moved to speak in the silence that was held for a few seconds as the child beckoned for her father and he stared back in near confusion, but his voice intersected.

For the worse, it seemed.

The next event occurred in a blur. Honestly, all Loralei could make out was the sound of crackling magic and the scene of Carl being flung like a rubber band out of the window, causing a shower of glass shards to scatter, only to be stopped by a forcefield placed by her mother in a panic. As she heard his body slam against the neatly trimmed sod outside, Loralei, bearing an absolutely dumbfounded expression on her face, released the force field in a shower of what looked like glitter.

The baby just laughed, clapping her tiny hands.

Just then, the doctors and nurses bursted in, and Carl slunk in front the shattered window like some sort of depressed slug. Loralei just kept silent. Looking between the baby. To the hospital staff. To Carl. To the baby. To the hospital staff. To Carl. He was okay, it seemed. Nothing so much damaged, except his pride. He looked to be so stewed in his anger that he wasn’t saying anything. So Loralei spoke up. A bright, almost pleased smile on her face as she looked towards the doctors.

"I think we’d like something normal sounding for our special little girl. How about Aubrey? It means ‘ruler of the little people’, if I’m correct." She looked to her husband, her tone almost dripping in sickly sweetness. "How does that sound, dear~?"

While she had expected a disgruntled reaction, she hadn't anticipated a full-on explosion. Loralei sighed, pulling the baby in close to her as she looked up and down her husband, picking up all of the rage seething out of him in the process. Of course, she would have been concerned had he gotten seriously injured- then again, she would have felt it too. But he was alright. The only thing that suffered mortal wounds was his pride, which from what she knew had almost as much potency as his own magic.

So she calmed, knowing that her poking fun at the situation hadn't gone over well. Aubrey's soft whimpering began to evidence this, and just as her crying began, Loralei tucked her in closer to her chest. Her thumb ran over her cheek to stop her tears from stinging her grey cheeks. At least trying to shield her child from the harshness she had already been thrust into mere minutes after coming into existence. Carefully, Lori planned her words in her head, so that when he did finally make his exit out of the window, she knew just what to say.
That said, she still have him a few minutes to wear out the sod of the freshly trimmed lawn he was angrily pacing across. In the mean time, she managed to get their child to stop crying. With that, she kissed her forehead, before looking back up to the nurses and doctors.

"Everything's going to be fine. Can we have a few more minutes alone to ourselves please?"

Before waiting for a response, the very sore Lori managed to stand up, carefully holding the baby in her arms before looking at the busted window. She crawled out of it, before standing a few feet away from him on the lawn.
"We could do the thing with your name, y'know. Like how you're Carl here but Kael'thias pretty much everywhere else." She murmured, though knew that wasn't why he was so mad. Loralei looked around the lawn, seeing the solid imprint his body made after being launched out of the window. She cringed. "Look, this isn't going to be easy, okay?" A sigh came from her lips. "She's stronger than I could have imagined, but I know her magic best. A kid with illusion-based Magic is going to incorporate what she sees in her every day life and project that through her powers. If she grows up in chaos, that really isn't going to go well for any of us." She began to approach him. "We both probably need to settle down a bit. But let's just go home for now, and worry about that later. We'll fill out the paperwork and be on our way. You're exhausted, and so am I. Just... Calm down. Please?" Her voice grew a bit more gentle, her cyan-colored stare softening. After all, she was a mother now. Things were going to change, and hopefully for the better.
