In the minutes prior, Loralei felt as though there was a shield protecting her and her newborn daughter from the world. Her focus was captivated under her tiny face, all the way up until her husband walked into the room. At that point, her own weary gaze focused on Carl. She had been waiting for this moment. The exact fragment of time in which they became a full family.
It was a rarity to see him so silent, as well as so lost for emotion. She could tell by his features that he was attempting to figure out what all of this meant as well. Something had stirred in the two of them that they hadn’t felt before, which came as a huge relief to Loralei to know that she wasn’t the only one feeling this. At least, that was what the silence between them told her.
As she handed off their newborn baby to him, she gently grazed her hands over his to guide him on how to hold her comfortably and properly. It almost looked as if he hadn’t been around small children in… Centuries, honestly. But Loralei smiled. That was okay, they’d learn together. She grunted a bit as she wearily sat herself up some more, crossing her arms loosely over her midsection. She just wanted to fully witness their first interaction as she imprinted it almost immediately into her memory. She chuckled in a faint tone as their baby reached up to try to get the shiny orbs around his head, only to speak up at Carl’s confusion at her intent.
"It looks like your orbs caught her attention. Everything is so new to her, after all. Although..." Loralei trailed off as she noticed that their little girl cooed again after he spoke up. "It might also help that she’s seeing your face for the first time after hearing you for so long."
In the silence that followed her explanation, the shiny orbs that caught their child’s eyes stirred up a bit more of a reaction. This caused her to laugh her first tiny laugh, weak in sound but still impactful given her mother’s bright smile. "Looks like she loves you already."
