He had messed up. He'd messed up so bad that he couldn't even tell what his biggest mistake was. Was the big mistake asking her on a date? Or was the big mistake the fact that he was now running off in the middle of the date?
He didn't know, and he was too nervous to try and figure out. She was crying, and it was probably because of him, and the thought of trying to comfort her only made it worse. She wouldn't want comfort from him. Not from the guy who made her cry in the first place. So instead, he left, abandoning her on the bench like the coward he was.
