"I didn't feel a thing. Ya see, I have this genetic disorder I was born with. I can't feel physical pain."
She hadn't been expecting that. Well, that was kind of cool, she supposed. "So, I can like, punch you and it wouldn't hurt? I mean, not that I would, of course."

"An encyclopedia...?"
Mery's blushed even deeper. Stupid, stupid, stupid book! Why couldn't I have just told him before?...Oh yeah, that's right...I hate being blind! "Sorry..." She forced out. Now she was going to have to tell him. She stood up slowly, trying to form the words in her mind before she spoke them. "Nik..." She utterly despised doing this! With a sigh she continued. "I...I can't see you. I can't see this book either," She held up the book in her hand. "'Cause...because I'm blind."

"So, I can like, punch you and it wouldn't hurt? I mean, not that I would, of course."

Nicolas laughed softly, but nodded his head. "Yeah, that's pretty much the idea," he said. He had been about to tell her that even if he couldn't feel pain, it still meant that there would be damage, but decided against it. He didn't want her to feel bad about dropping the book, after all.

He'd been about to tell her not to be sorry, but then she mentioned being blind. Oh, crap.... he thought to himself. He shouldn't have asked her to do that for him if she was blind. But, he hadn't known.... why hadn't she told him? Or, at least, why couldn't he have tried to figure it out? He nodded though, finding it a bit weird how the both of them had their little share of 'problems'.

"Oh, ok..." Nicolas said. "I'll go put this back. We can leave, if you want." It was just a suggestion, it didn't mean that they had to. He took the book and stood up, though he didn't put it back yet, giving her a chance to answer first.

"Oh." Mery replied to his comment about her punching him. "I see."

She could sense him standing up. "I don't really care. Just don't ask me to find any more books for you...and above all else, do NOT treat me like a child, okay?" She didn't mean to sound rude, but she didn't want to risk it.
