Time Well Wasted

Petrova crossed her ankles. She was sitting next to a window, looking out at the blue sky. She was simply waisting time, but it was a good way to waste it.

She put her hand on the hilt of her always present sword. She didn't even realize what she was doing. She moved her hand away and tucked a few strands of long black hair behind her ear.

She wondered how long she'd been sitting there, watching the clouds go by. But it didn't really matter. She breathed on the cool glass and started drawing random pictures, mostly of stick figures. Nameless, random little people, with tiny bodies and big heads. She laughed at her bad drawing skills, but continued drawing anyway.

He was looking for company, but he would pretend that he wasn't. Her mind was closed, yet open. It was a strange feeling, as he followed it, red and white striped stick making a small clicking noise as he made his way into the room. His eyes were covered with a black scarf, and another, far longer scarf was wrapped around his neck.

He remained silent, acting like any normal blind person, who would know that anyone was there. He played with the end of his long white scarf, wondering if she'd speak.

Petrova was giggling at her attempt to draw a dog when she heard someone come in. She hurriedly wiped away her doodles and turned her head.

She was about to say something when she realized that he was holding a walking stick. It didn't take a genious to figure out that he was blind.

'Hi!" She said cheerily, but not overly loud. She wanted him to know that she was there, but she didn't want to act like he was deaf too.

She turned her head back. Obviously he wouldn't know that, so it didn't matter that she wasn't turned towards him when he was speaking.

She wondered whether it was common sense that she knew to look at people when they were talking to be polite, or whether it was one of those things that one had to be taught. Of course it didn't really matter, but it was an interesting thing to speculate over.

He smiled a rare smile, one that made him look extremely childish with the dimples on either side, and dipped his head in the general direction of her voice. He wasn't going to even bother to pretend to be able to see, today, it was obvious that he was blind.

He pulled his mind as far out of hers as possible, not really in the mood to hear all her thoughts, even though he could never completely stop unless she shut her mind to him, and he replied in his calm, toneless voice, "Hi yourself. I'm Kane." he said, voice not creepy in it's lack of emotion. He raised a hand in a kind of short, two fingered salute of greeting, before dropping it down to his side.

He ran the hand not occupied by the stick out, finding a dusty desk and settling himself on top of it with ease.

Petrova nodded even though he couldn't see her. "Nice to meet you. I'm Petrova." She turned back to the window and started drawing a butterfly. "What brings you up here on this lovely day?" She asked.
