He seemed to be very conflicted about how to act and even where to look. One moment Liun was looking away and the other he was looking back at Quie. He was even switching between periods of quiet and then smiling or laughing. It was promising at least because Liun was known for his humor but Quie could tell he was using it to try coping with the dark thoughts. Much like anyone in an emergency response field tended to do so they were not crushed under the weight of unpleasantness.
"An excuse to get food? No, actually i'm just trying to bribe you to keep me away from doing paperwork or something terribly boring," she genuinely chuckled. Two could play at making jokes and it wasn't terribly far from the truth. The endless paperwork and meetings just so she could deal with the government people and learn about the veil was daunting. At least for a little time she could honestly enjoy a little time eating with her cousin and technically still call it doing her job. "Ok, fine you can buy your own food. I'll probably wait to get some coffee for myself when I get home." She had her own work to get done and most likely a few emails that had come in while she was focused on Liun. Nothing too urgent though or her phone would have rang.
Quie was just about to stand up and head to the counter to place an order when Liun got all sincere again. With a very calm and understanding look on her face she looked back at him. "Liun i'm glad you decided to tell me about all this. It's not pleasant but at least now we can help you shoulder this burden that you have been carrying around. Don't worry about having to retell the whole thing over and over again. If the others start getting pushy i'll just give them a nice solid punch for you. In private of course- can't have Fweiu going ballistic." He still looked tired and emotionally drained but also a little lighter, a little better off than when she had come in. After the food he would probably be in a good enough headspace that she wouldn't have to worry about him heading off to work or wherever he was going.
With that she stood up and gestured towards the counter, indicating that they should place their orders. It was also an unspoken question, asking Liun whether he wanted her to order for him or not. She didn't mind either way.
