Live pushed open the door to Kaya's shop with an exasperated huff. She strode in heading straight for her work corner, dropped her bag on the floor with a thud, and then dropped herself into the nearest chair. She leaned back, legs and arms sprawling out as she let out a heavy sigh.

"Ughhhh." She groaned as she spun her chair in a circle, using the shadows to do so, her black skirt swirling around. "Just kill me now.. Take my soul, put it in a blender and send my body straight to hell." She stopped the chair from spinning for a moment to kick off her shoes and then returned to spinning the chair, her fingers twirling as she manipulated the darkness beneath the chair.

This was how Live began most of her days at work. She would gripe about her senior year of high school for as long as Kaya would tolerate and then attend to whatever tasks needed attending to for the day.

Kaya was in the back room when she heard her friend and employee coming in the shop. Her psionic ward also told her someone had entered but the distinctive way the person had slumped through the shop was unmistakable at this point. Kaya was actually working on only three orders for customers while she was devoting most of her attention on a dress for the annual Masquerade. She wanted a beautiful dress and simply whipping one together wasn't what she wanted.

It did sound like Live might want some company out in the main room of the shop. So putting the proper threads in place for her to put a hold on her work and walked out from the back room to see her apprentice spinning herself around with shadows in a chair where Live usually worked when she was here, near the Shadow Loom so she could see when Kaya was working on a Fitting.

"Another grueling day of your Senior year I hear?" Kaya said it with a knowing smile, her own Senior year at the Academy wasn't the smoothest. In fact a lot had happened in that one year but now Kaya was an owner of an up and coming Fashion Studio, was connected to Crown Modeling and everything was going grand. "Though I think in your case I think you would actually LIKE hell...lots of interesting daemons...Though anything below lust and you're getting into some really weird Kinks at that point." She said teasingly, Kaya had been doing her best on getting her friend to respond more positively and actually understanding the friendly back-and-forth most people enjoyed with their friends.

Live had really come to enjoy her job with Kaya. At first she had been a bit concerned that working for her only real friend would turn out to be trouble but it had actually been just the opposite; it was probably the second best thing that had happened in her life. The first was coming to Manta Carlos island a little less than a year and a half ago.

It was amazing that the best moments in her life had all occurred within two years of her 17 years. Kaya was a big part of that. She was the first person that Live actually felt a genuine connection to and didn't feel like she had to force her self to be anything or act in any certain way. However, Live had definitely changed greatly throughout the course of their friendship. When they first began hanging out, Live had felt very awkward. After the events at last years Masquerade though, the two had grown much closer as they connected further over their shared shadow manipulation abilities. Of course, it took Live getting her eyes cursed by a demon and having a bit of a breakdown in Kaya's shop for her to finally begin to accept the demon as more than just a friendly acquaintance. It was after that little event that Live had begun working for Kaya as well. It was six months later now, and Live was now comfortable calling Kaya her friend. If really pushed she might even say best friend but that wasn't something she was about to tell Kaya.

Despite all this though, Live still wasn't great at positive social interactions, even with Kaya. Her disposition was so negative and/or stoic that she had a hard time breaking herself out of that box. Life was something to wallow in self pity about, not take like a light hearted joke.

"How did you guess?" Live groaned sarcastically, as she continued to spin herself. She wasn't really sure how she felt yet about being a senior. She had thought she would have failed out at this point. Part of her was impressed (and slightly proud) that she hadn't while part of her was horribly terrified. Making it to senior year meant graduation was just around the corner and that was something Live didn't even want to think about.

"As long as I'm not stuck on Earth anymore, it's fine by me." There was literally nothing Live wanted more than to be free of her current human existence. She just hadn't figured out how to do that yet..

Giving Live a small smile Kaya moved over closer to her friend before sitting down on the raised floor section of the Shadow Loom. "That just means its not boreing at least." Kaya couldn't help but smile a bit at that. Once she was sitting she realised something that she had meant to ask Live. "Live, do you have any plans for Halloween this year?"

With a few flicks of her wrist she pulled open the back room door and her Ballroom gown came floating out. It had the usual form fitting upper body with only a slight flare out once it got closer to the waist. The bottom was a mix of stars and nebula of a rainbow of colors but at the transition going up the deep v cut corset that would plunge to Kaya's navel the colors became bands in a darker star scape but at the bust it was void black as if the bust was a black hole.

"I'm going to be going to the Masquerade this year. Was thinking you could go this time with me instead of well...being the shadow on the wall." Kaya looked over the dress still not quite perfectly pleased with the look and she was planning one having the rest of the week to adjust the rest of it. "I'm still not quite done with it...."

She huffed slightly as she finally stopped spinning. "Don't worry.. It's still plenty boring. It's just also a pain in my ass."

Live shrugged at Kaya's question. Halloween was one of those holidays that Live never quite knew what to do about. On the one hand, it was an important time of the year for magical purposes but was also so over loaded with holiday bullshit that she just couldn't bring herself to care that much about it, no matter how magical or whatever it was. She usually just spent her time meditating and would on occasion summon something to keep her company. But she tried to avoid any big celebrations, majorly because she never really had anyone to celebrate with.

She was about to respond when Kaya pulled her dress out from the back room. It was an amazing piece. Live still couldn't get over the things Kaya was able to do with shadows. She had learned quite a bit since beginning work at the fashion studio but was still no where near Kaya's level. She honestly doubted she ever would be on an evening playing field with her friend..she tried not to think about that too much.

Live's stoic expression broke slightly as she chuckled a bit under her breath at Kaya's words. Live? Actually go to a dance? With other people? What would she even do there? Instead of being a shadow on the wall she would just be another wall flower.

She regained her composure before responding, "Yeah sure. 'Cause me at a dance sounds like a great idea. I would literally know no one except you and I mean.." She paused, looking at her friends dress, "What would I even wear?" A shiver ran up her spine as she realized how basic she sounded asking that question.

"Darling I think you would enjoy yourself there. And I highly doubt I'll be the only person there you would know, Almost everyone on the island goes even if its just for a brief show in." Kaya took her dress in her hands as she touched and felt the fabric of the dress. Just trying to find any flaw in the dress itself. "Like myself, I don't plan on doing much dancing or mingling. After about, maybe an hour or so. I need to come back to the shop to hand out candy to the little ones..."

That news had made Kaya roll her eyes a bit, her shop was a few turns off of the Strip, which in it's own way was almost a red light district. How many little kids with their parents would be coming around this section of the block to her little corner of business. "...how ever few come this way that is."

"But I still am trying to go more so as advertisement than to find any sort of night time companionship...not like I need more avenues for food..." Kaya had maybe a few to many encounters of a bedroom nature these past month or two. "...and for what you would wear, You could MAKE yourself a dress. I've seen you work on stuff for Clients, But i haven't seen you make something for yourself." She gave Live a look that was more question then accusation, Kaya hadn't seen Live make anything for herself and she was genuinely curious why she didn't. Kaya herself loved making her own clothing, so this was a big question for Kaya."

Even if everyone on the island went, there were very, very few people that Live actually cared to see. The main one was Kaya and she didn't need to go to a dance just to see her. There would probably be more people there that she didn't want to see than she would want to see.

"You're basically the only person I actually like on this island.." Live said under her breath, as if this was something Kaya should have been well aware of.

Live remembered how all the shops were suppose to hand out candy on Halloween. She had only been trick-or-treating a few times before her family started falling apart. She honestly tried not to think too much of those times, even though they were happy memories. Happy things were just reminders of much she had lost.

Kaya's next line of questioning made Live a bit more uncomfortable. She had thought often about making her own clothes but..shadow clothes tended to be a bit more flashy just because of the nature of their material. Live didn't really like to stand out or draw attention to herself. But, even though she did find the shadow material to be a bit flashy, she did have a hoodie that Kaya had made for her and she wore that quite frequently. After a bit of silence she let out a sigh, unable to come up with anything to say besides the truth.

"Because I'd feel awkward wearing something I made.. I get a lot of comments on the hoodie you made for me which is fine because then I just tell them about your business and get you more clients but...if I made I'd have to tell them I did it and then I'd get a bunch of attention and it just be...I don't want all that."

I don't deserve all that... Live thought to herself as she stood up and moved towards the Shadow Loom. There was a piece she had been working on from other day still on it. She began to touch the fabric, checking to make sure nothing had come apart since she had left it.

"Would you prefer if I said that you'd only need to stay near me if you'd like?" Kaya honestly wanted to try to help Live be more social the poor girl had been through enough with her life then not to have lots of friends. "In a way Live, this is more going to be advertisement then any mingleing that will be done. I'm not asking you to dance with people."

When Live moved over to the piece that she had been working on and she couldn't help and smile knowing that her friend had improved substantially over the past couple of months Live had learned a lot and was quite talented. Kaya had taken years to get where Live was when they were on even footing and it had honestly surprised her just how good her friend was at learning her talents. "And Darling when you're at a Masquerade you don't go as yourself. You go as a separate person and the fun is trying to find out who everyone else is. But again, we would only be there for an hour tops."

"Plus, in a way I want to show off your skills. In a way that would be advertising for the Shop. You work here after all and I trained you, That is something I can take pride in. I get enough customers now that I was doing almost 6 pieces a day just to keep up with demand last month. And most of those were gowns FOR this event. This would also be with you as my plus one I can avoid the....tragedy that happened last year." Where she had tried to have Henry dance with her so she might be able to explain what she had done...but she had moved on and it was looking to be a very good end to a year.

Having lots of friends was not something Live wanted in any way. Before meeting Kaya she didn't really want any friends. She was pretty content with life involving just herself and the demons she summoned. Kaya was a step up from that. Even though she was still a demon from the Shadow Realm at least Kaya hung out with Live of her own free will.

As set as Live had been about not going to this dance, she found Kaya's argument to unfortunately compelling. Majorly because she was her boss and it made sense for her business for Live to be at the ball with Kaya in a dress she made. Ugh..

Also, there was the whole event of last year that actually brought them together as friends. She supposed that if she was going to be a good friend she wouldn't let Kaya go to a dance alone again that had ended in such disaster for her.

Live let out a heavy sigh, "Fiiiine... I'll make a dress and go to this freakin' Masquerade Ball with you but I make no promises to actually enjoy myself." Anything that got as much hype as a dance could only be completely lame.

Kaya gave a wicked grin at 'winning' the argument as Live sighed. "Darling, I'm just asking you to come with. You sound like I just gave you a death sentence." Kaya was repressing some laughter at this but she couldn't keep her smile from widening into a friendly grin at her friend's expense.

"I'm sure that you'll enjoy yourself more then you think. BUT, I will be dancing with other people and essenetially showing off the dress. I'll still be near by if you need me when we are there...OH, one more thing." Kaya pushed her hand into the air and it seemed to disappear into a small pool of shadows and when it returned there was a familiar Gold Half mask with bronze filigree and put it on her face and she changed.

First her body shrank down to from her Amazonian 6' 9" height down to a more reasonable 5' 11". Second her skin changed from the smooth deep purple to a clean soft sun tan. Her horns, tail, and hooves disappeard and in place of the lower of the three were now normal human looking feet. Last to change was Kaya's Hair, changing from the night-scape that it was normally to a deep brownish red. "I'm also going to be wearing this again. Though i might just buy a Glamour the change my voice so that way it's all that much harder to realise it's me." That was how Henry had figured out it was her when they had seen each other last year.

It was then that Kaya looked down at her new toes and wiggled them a bit. "Human feet are so weird...how do you guys deal with toes..." She also pulled a bit on the shadow cloth that she was wearing at the moment, it had changed shape with her but was attempting to go back to Kaya's original measurements.
