This Can't Be Good

Brielle carefully balanced the saucer and china teacup in one hand, and a plate of scones in the other as she made her way up the stairs. She'd had tea at four in the afternoon everyday growing up, and she wasn't about to give it up just because she'd moved here. She set her food down on a small table next to the window and glanced at the empty bed on one side of the room.

She'd been told that she was going to have a new roommate, and she wasn't sure if she was excited about that or not. She'd liked having her own room, but she'd felt a little selfish because not everyone got their own room and it didn't seem fair that she did. She curled up in the chair and tore off a bit of scone, popping it in her mouth and wondering when her roomie would show up, if ever.

Ridasael had been told early this morning that she was to be placed in a different room, this time, with someone else. She had been absolutely furious at this. She sent out a letter of her frustration to her parents, basically begging them to fix this and get her a room for just herself, but she knew a reply wouldn't be coming for a while, if any at all. Her mother Lixie never replied to any of Rida's letters, and her father Johnathon, especially didn't bother with them, they made the maid who had worked for them forever it seemed to read the letters, and the maid despises Rida, so she knew nothing good would come out of this.

She stomped down the hall way, her bags in hand. She finally made it to her new room, and stopped outside the door. She had been frustrated all day about this, and now its four in the afternoon, and she still wasn't over it. She took in a calming breath, to settle her anger at least a little, but the idea of a mutant as her roommate just made her angry again. She set her bag down, and opened the door, picked up her bag again, and walked in.

She looked at the redheaded girl who was drinking tea, and Rida grimaced in disgust at the sight of the "gifted" girl there.

"Great. I have a mutant freak who drinks tea as my roommate." She said. Her voice was like acid. She walked to the empty bed and just threw her bags on it.

Brielle jumped when the girl walked in. At her angry and rude words, she seemed to shrink a little bit. She didn't like confrontation, and from the looks of things, there'd be plenty of it with this girl. She licked her lips, and forced herself to straighten up. She forced a smile onto her lips and managed a nod. "Yes, would you like some?"

She hated the word mutant. She couldn't help what she was; her powers hadn't been her choice. She decided that she would prevent her powers from showing as much as she could. The girl didn't like using them much anyway, but unfortunately, she couldn't control them all that well.

"I'm Brielle, by the way." She added in a small voice.

Ridasael watched the girl for a long, hard moment, then turned away to one of her bags and opened it, and took out some clothing, black skirts, some were dark purple, and then a couple pairs of dark jeans, and then tank tops and t-shirts with some black long sleeved shirts.

"Yes, would you like some?"

"No." She snapped. She took her clothes to a dresser that was beside Rida's bed, and she opened a empty drawer and just stuffed her clothes in it. She went back to her bed, and pulled out a tie-back, and pulled her hair back and tied it there in a pony-tail, so her hair wasn't in her face when she unpacked.

She unpacked more things, and basically ignored her roommate. Rida hated nothing more then the freaks here, even if Ridasael was one of them herself, and she hated the fact that she was one, all she wanted was a normal life, be someone who didn't have powers and go to a normal school.

"I'm Brielle, by the way."

Rida stayed quiet a while, then, "Ridasael Trueblood." Ridasael said, and then just acted like she was ignoring this... Brielle. Her last name, Trueblood, stood out for her family, her entire family was "pure blood" as they called it, since none of their family members ever had powers, none of them, until now. When her parents found out their daughter was a freak, they wondered where they went wrong to have a daughter who wasn't "pure blooded".

As she was watched by the girl, Brielle could feel her cheeks turning pink from embarassment. She felt as though she were doing something wrong, although she was only sitting there, drinking her tea and eating her scone.

"No."

"Alright." Her voice got softer and she added, "it's here if you change your mind." Maybe --it was oh, so doubtful, but maybe — the other girl was just having a bad day. Brielle finished her scone and retreated to her bed, piling her pillows up as if to shield herself from her roommate.

"Ridasael Trueblood."

"That's a nice name," was the only meek reply from the red head. She wondered what on earth had possessed the headmistress to move the girl in with her. At any rate, things were sure to be interesting.

"Alright. it's here if you change your mind."

Rida rolled her eyes and she pulled out a bundle of letters, all from the same person. Lixie Trueblood, well sort of. Ridasael looked at the letters, wondering where she should keep them, then shrugged, and bent over, and slid the letters under the bed, nearly out of reach. She stood up again, and pulled out a laptop. She just set that on the bedside table, and then reached in her bag, and pulled out her cell phone. She barely over carried it with her, since on occasion, her parents would call her, to tell her something that always made her mad. Rida was truly surprised that she hasn't thrown this one into the sea or toilet yet. She put the phone on the laptop.

"That's a nice name,"

"Whatever. Not sure I like it now that a mutant thinks it nice." She hissed. She grabbed her other bag, and pulled out a comforter blanket that she had managed to fit in her bag, and then a pillow. The bag was big though, so it had been a little easy for her to fit those things in. Next, she brought out folded sheets.

"I can't believe that headmaster is making me share a room with another freak." Muttered Rida.

Brielle sighed, wondering if she should talk to the headmistress about this. Maybe if Ridasael's attitude didn't get any better. But then, what good would that do besides cause more work for everyone? Maybe it would be best to just put up with it. She was truly torn, and she didn't know what to do.

"I can't believe that headmaster is making me share a room with another freak."

She bit her lower lip, trying to keep from crying, and trying to think of something to say. Would it be better to continue being kind or to snap at the girl and say she hadn't any right to act that way? The latter would be satisfying, but Brie didn't have enough courage.

"Would you like help with anything?" She asked softly, already sure of the answer.

A while ago, like two weeks, Ridasael had been dating a mutant, and she was slowly getting over her disgust of them, but she broke up with him, since she knew what her parents would do if Rida came to love the boy, and Rida wouldn't be able to live with herself if he was caught by the hunters and taken to have experiments on him, or something else, so, she believed it best to leave him, so she did, so he would be safe, and slowly, she started to hate mutants again, and barely noticed how much she hated them, no matter how nice they were, like this Brielle here.

She knew the girl seemed nice, and didn't deserve to be snapped at, but still, Rida did, because of her long hate for all mutants. One never gets over their hate for a thing, if they've been taught to hate it all their lives.

"Would you like help with anything?"

Ridasael thought a moment, one hand on one of her bags, then she stepped to the side. "Fine. You can help, if it'll make you shut up." Ridasael said, her voice still cruel.

"There's CD's in this bag, you can put them..." She glanced about, not knowing where she would want them, then shrugged. "Somewhere."

Okay, so it wasn't said nicely, but at least now Brielle had something to do besides sitting there, staring at her new roommate in fear. She hopped up and took the CDs out of the bag.

Her eyes scanned the room, looking for a place that she could put the CDs out of the way. "Is over here alright?" She asked, gingerly setting them on the table by the window.

Hoping that Rida would be a little nicer now that Brielle was helping her unpack, she decided it might be safe to speak once more. "What kind of music do you listen to?"

If the answer was a rude one, she'd give up for then anyway. She didn't want her roommate biting off her head or something. That thought made her curious about the other girl's powers. Hopefully, it wasn't anything too dangerous; otherwise could prove hazardous to Brielle's health.

"Is over here alright?"

"Sure." Rida didn't even look. She barely cared where they were put, she hardly used her CD's, only when her Ipod didn't have any battery left. She pulled out a few books, she put those on a small table by her bed, she then took her bags and pushed them under the bed, not wanting to unpack anymore at the moment, then she sat down on the bed.

"What kind of music do you listen to?"

She hesitated before answering. "Nightwish, Linkin Park, Savatage, the likes." She answered in a cold voice.
