No, that he did not. He'd never heard of Mother Goose or anything like that, as the nursery rhymes and fairy tales of his home culture were quite different and the morals were often odd compared to those of humans.

"Yes. Just my name." He had two, but only gave one here. This one wasn't even official, and you'd find it nowhere on his original documentation... If humans could ever find it in the first place. It had probably blown up alongside his pod or his ship when he crash landed on earth.

"Me?" Did humans just make them up? Were they important? He thought that they were affectionate terms, unless the girl was being affectionate with him. How odd. "Well... Sure, that seems acceptable."

Would he even understand the 'nickname'?

"Alright, let's see..." Avian thought aloud to herself as she tried to make up a nickname.

She didn't know him very well personally, so she wouldn't be able to make a nickname from his personality or attributes. "Stiff" would be a good nickname for him. He was so rigid and precise with everything he did. But Avian knew that would be a bit mean. So instead, she'd have to go off the only thing she knew about him: his name. Yesterday. What kind of nickname could she get out of that?

"Yessy?" she suggested.

Then again, it did sound like the name of a small purse dog...

"Uh, but only if you think that's a good one," she added on quickly, "You don't have to listen to me,"

(ooc: sorry for the late reply, I've been without wifi for a few days)

Yesterday stared at her as Avian stared right back at him, probably thinking up a nickname. A false name. A name that wasn't really his name. Her expression shifted subtly as her thoughts processed, but his didn't. In fact, his remained so stoic that he may as well have turned into a statue.

"Yessy?" He repeated in that same drone of a voice, cocking his head to the side without any change in expression. "What an odd name. I think I prefer Yesterday." More or less simply because 'Yessy' sounded sharp and unnecessary. Maybe just to him, though. It could've been a fine nickname.

"I think I would just prefer Yesterday. A nickname would not be necessary, but it is quite endearing. Thank you." Did that sound weird coming out? He monitored her face further, just in case.

"I think I would just prefer Yesterday. A nickname would not be necessary, but it is quite endearing. Thank you."

Avian shifted her weight uncomfortably and scratched the back of her neck with an embarrassed expression. She never had been good at nicknames. Heck, the last nickname she made, she hadn't even told the person she made him a nickname because it was that bad. Horsey wasn't exactly a good name, and Yessy was just as silly.

"Heheh, ok," she tried to laugh it off, "Yesterday it is. Sorry, I'm not too good with nicknames,"

Although his staring was starting to worry her. Sometimes, she couldn't tell if he was paying attention or had fallen asleep on his feet! Avian almost wanted to pull on his cheeks and force some kind of expression. Of course, she wasn't near daring enough to try that, so she ended up staring intently at him, hoping that if she stared long enough, she'd get some sort of emotion out of him.

"It's quite alright." Yes, fine. He didn't need a nickname, and he wasn't offended by the fact that the one she tried to give him didn't sound good to his ears. Maybe other humans would go crazy for it, but he didn't like sharp sounds and his own native language was full of soft growls and clicks.

Then they simply stopped talking.

They stared.

And stared.

And stared some more.

She looked a little worried, actually. Did humans usually do this? He could keep it up for a long while, but she didn't seem at all comfortable with they way they stared into each others' souls like that.

Well, the way he stared into her soul and the way she stared into his optical cameras.

"Are you alright?"

Avian snapped back to reality, her cerulean eyes widening for a few moments. All the gulls flinched back at the same time. How long had she been staring at him? Certainly not enough to get an emotional reaction, because he still had the same blank stare as before.

"Er...yes!" she said suddenly.

She awkwardly dug her flip flop into the shaded sand beneath her. Now she just felt rude for acting so strangely in front of a foreigner. Then again, maybe he felt bad for acting strangely in front of a native...

"I just... I was just seeing if you would, uh, show any emotion," she said as tactfully as she could.

Realizing how condescending that sounded, she added on quickly, "N-not that it's weird or anything! Well, I mean, it is weird, but...what I meant was...uh, is that normal where you come from? To show little emotion?"

After speaking, she dropped her head to her feet, her sunhat hiding her gaze from him. The seagulls were now circling around her feet, as if they were concerned for her.

It seemed that all the birds really liked her, or at least really liked to mimic her movements. Did earth animals do this a lot, or was it an occasional association with humans that they found kinship with? Sometimes he'd see people with four legged furry animals on leashes. It was an odd symbiosis that he didn't quite understand yet.

Yesterday cocked his head to the side at all the seagulls swirling in circles around them, seemingly concerned for the girl. He had no grasp of the concept of 'pets' yet.

"Emotion?" Ah, yes, the things that humans felt as a result of the chemical reactions in their brains. "Ah... Yes. Well, yes and no." He was being rather obvious now, was he? Augh, so much for having a cover.

He blinked as if trying to process everything. "I mean, I just have some troubles with it." Which was true. He wasn't programmed for emotion.

If it were Avian being questioned, she would become wary with all the questions, but Yesterday kept his usual glazed over look. Maybe he really was feeling wary about all her questions, and just wasn't showing it. In fact, he even said he had troubles with his emotions.

"...Oh..." was all Avian said.

She looked at him sadly, wondering what it was like to have an incapability to express emotions.

"I guess I know how you feel," Avian attempted to sympathize, "I have to keep my emotions in check sometimes, or else I might hurt someone,"

Realizing how she left that last one on a loose end, she figured she had better explain.

"You see, I can control birds. It's lame, I know," she laughed at herself a bit, "But I haven't learned to fully control them yet. So if one emotion gets too strong, they'll react to it. Just...don't make me cry, okay?"

She remembered the last time she cried, a murder of crows had swarmed the entire area she was in!

Emotions weren't something he was programmed with, but... There had been something that resonated within him during that long, lonely trip throughout space, surrounded by his 'sleeping' brothers and sisters. At first he'd filed away memories to keep himself busy, reordering them and storing them in every imaginable combination. When that was done, he did it for all his brothers and sisters. After that...

Nothing. There had been nothing.

He blinked at the memory, his violet eyes returning to the girl once more. "Powers?" Ah, so she had powers? Power over these flying earth creatures? "I see, I see. I will make an attempt at it."

He didn't think he'd do anything to upset yer, anyways. Not that he was entirely sure of anything right now. He blinked as if just coming to this realization, then nodding. "What are these, then? Your pets? An extension of your powers?"

He pointed at the gulls who all seemed to be gawking around. What strange animals.

Good. He said he'd make an attempt to not make her cry. That was more than most people promised her. Still, he seemed to be confused by her little seagulls waddling about.

"No, they are just regular feral birds," she shrugged, "But because of my powers, they're much friendlier to me. At the academy, I'm learning to use my powers to my advantage and command them,"

Avian held out a slender arm and made a little whistle, and then a kissy sound with her lips. At once, one of the gulls fluttered up to her arm, his webbed feet gripping on tightly.

"I've learned a little so far," she smiled sheepishly, then held out her arm to Yesterday, "See?"

The seagull stared up at Yesterday curiously, tilting its head from one side to the other.
