Staring numbly out the hotel window, Zora could feel the tears welling up again in her eyes as she wiped them away with the back of her hand. Ever since she got out of the hospital, memories of Broen, both good and bad, came unbidden to her at odd times of the day and set her off in a heap of tears. Not even sleep offered her any consolation as scenes of their final moments haunted her dreams, waking her up screaming or in cold sweats. Quitely literally, she was so exhausted at the moment, both mentally and physically, that she often doubted her own sanity.

And if it hadn't been for Felen, she seriously doubted she'd not be worse off than she already was. Her bodyguard had taken care of everything for her once the ambulance and the police had been called. She now felt extremely grateful that he had had enough calm levelheadedness to take everything in hand and make sure she was safe and looked after after the ordeal.

Sighing, Zora turned from the window when she heard a knock at the door and walked over to open it. She had no idea who it could be, only family and, of course, Felen knew of her whereabouts so she knew it wasn't the press or curiosity seekers. Though she did, momentarily think of Jude - who she knew she had to talk to - but the thought of it only made her well up at the idea. He had been Broen's best friend, probably his only real friend actually, and seeing him would only remind her of Broen, and she wasn't quite sure she could handle that at the moment.

Shale had spent a good couple of days debating whether he wanted to come and see Zora yet, unsure whether his presence would be beneficial or negative. In truth, he had never been much of a fan of Broen, not having entirely let go of the abrasive and seemingly purposefully rude way he carried himself. However, that held no bearing now. Zora was family, and he felt an obligation to at least attempt to make himself available to her now.

He'd walked over to the hotel she was staying at instead of walking, his wings still rather sore and not suited to extended flights. Taking a moment in the stairwell to collect himself before approaching her door, the teenager took a seat on a step and pinched the bridge of his nose. A low sigh escaped him; he was frustrated at his lack of experience in the heartfelt consolation that Zora surely needed right now. He was well aware that his perspective on death was one not shared by very many, especially his age, but perhaps his detachment was for the better.

After a few minutes of mental preparation, Shale climbed the remainder of the steps, paused in front of the door to make sure he wasn't interrupting a conversation, then gave a couple solid knocks. As the door opened, the rather somber gargoyle gave his older cousin a very strained, sad smile, his pupilless golden eyes meeting hers. "Hey..." Shale spoke very softly, his hands shoved deeply in his pockets for a few unsure moments, before he took them out and postured himself to gently embrace her if she seemed open to it.

When she opened the door, Zora saw, somewhat surprised, that it was Shale. Her cousin and one of her aunt's, Celeste's, children. One of the most unexpected of visitors, but no less welcome. Extremely glad to see him standing there, she noticed his arms sort of held out, a gestured that propelled Zora, without even thinking, to stepping forward and hugging him tightly as she broke out in tears and started sobbing very softly.

The abruptness of Zora's movement to hug him mildly shocked the gargoyle, and he blinked a few times while processing before slowly wrapping his own arms around the woman. He held her firmly, albeit still gently, slowly rubbing a hand back and forth across her upper back in an effort to further soothe her. The crying caused him to furrow his brow somewhat, giving him a painfully clear image of just how distraught she was.

Not wanting to rush her, Shale gave her a good thirty seconds before slowly releasing Zora and stepping inside. "I, ah...I wasn't sure if you were ready for anyone to come and see you. Hopefully I'm not intruding." He quietly closed the door behind him and moved a few more steps into the hotel room. It was clear that Shale didn't really know what to do with himself, glancing to a pair of chairs by the wall, and then the bed.

Grateful for Shale's patience and quiet understanding, Zora buried her face in the gargoyles chest for a moment when he wrapped his arms around her.

"It's fine. I am glad you came, and no time is really a good time lately," she told him truthfully as she led her cousin into the hotel room and gestured to a chair, figuring he'd be much more at ease there than sitting there than on the bed.

"Can I get you anything to eat or drink?" Zora asked him as she took a seat across from Shale and regarded him expectantly. She was very glad to see him, it gave her something else to focus on besides Broen and the tragedy of a few days ago.

Shale nodded stiffly at her response about the time, knowing all too well that that was the case. He settled into one of the chairs after Zora indicated for him to sit, both his ring fingers tapping rhythmically on the arms. "No thanks. Came here after a workout, so I already took care of food afterwards." Unsure when would be the ideal time to give her the gift he'd made, he opted to bring it out now so that the rest of their talk could go unimpeded.

"Ah, I uh. Made you something last night." Pulling his bag up onto his lap, he opened it up and pulled out a spherical, cloth wrapped object, setting it down on the side table for her to open up herself. Inside she'd find one of his sculptures, the first thing he'd made for her beyond some simple earrings a couple months back. It was primarily a sparkly, smooth polished cloud of rose quartz, interlaced with little bands of cobalt and a variety of tiny stars and other celestial bodies nestled on top of the cloud, made of a variety of stones and metals. "I know it's kind of...abstract, but I had a bit of a hard time focusing. Hopefully it's at least something to look at and take your mind off of things from time to time."

Zora was touched beyond belief when Shale told her that he had made her something. Watching him pull out his gift, she gently unwrapped it, very curious at discovering what he had made. Celeste had often commented to her about Shale's talent with stone, and just how proud she was of him.

When she finally got it unwrapped, Zora gasped at just how lovely it was. "This is..." Zora started. then stopped and shook her head, trying not to cry again... "It's beautiful, Shale," she said finally as she lightly touched the sculpture, still in awe that he had done something so kind and thoughtful.

"I love it," she confessed softly, clearly captivated by the whole otherworldliness feeling to it.

"Did it take you long to do?" she asked him.
