Chloe was sitting at one of her favorite booths in Gomorrah, waiting for Malara to show up. She had already gotten her first drink for the night.

Malara left a poor first impression on Chloe. She came off as the sort of college freshman that Chloe would have called immature when she was a high school junior. Going off and getting drunk with strangers at the apparent expense of classwork or common sense, treating university life like a hedonistic pursuit and not an academic one. Chloe had been too polite to call Malara a waste of space and breath, at least to her face.

And it was a good thing she didn't say such a thing - because as it turned out, they had a lot in common. Both of them were the offspring, in some capacity, of incomprehensibly powerful beings who had extremely unusual expectations for their children. The sorts of expectations, mind you, which were perfectly sensible reasons to get very drunk. Each girl presented a rare opportunity for the other - she might be able to understand what it's like! Finally, she wouldn't feel so alone in that suffering.

At least that was the hope. For now, Chloe had invited Malara to join her at Gomorrah for free drinks, and for the chance to vent about their parents. The night was just beginning, and Chloe had told the man at the door to direct Malara to her when she arrived.

Malara hadn't really formed an opinion on Chloe. The girl had never spoken too much to her, though Malara had always felt a level of contempt emanating from the other girl. That had started to change though the day that Malara had shared a bit of her backstory and her history with her Mother.

Still, it had surprised her when Chloe had invited Malara out to Gomorrah for drinks. She hadn't expected a one-o-one discussion, but with how things had been for her lately, she felt that she needed it. And Malara was never one to turn down free drinks.

She walked through Gomorrah, her heels clicking as she made her way down a convoluted path of tables, purposefully flaunting as she passed to pick up the stray lust and negativity that so many of the regulars here were practically oozing with. She reached their spot at the bar, far off in a corner where the two of them could maybe have some privacy.

Sliding into the seat next to Chloe, Malara flashed a grin and a wave as she set her purse on the bar top. "Hey there, hot stuff. I'm meeting a friend here, but I don't think she'd mind me chatting up a cutie like you~." It was probably an awkward greeting, but Malara couldn't think of anything else to be honest. She laughed it off and brushed a stray hair out of her face. "Sooo... we're here to drink our troubles away? Maybe complain a little while we're at it?"

Chloe snickered at that greeting. "Oh, I'd be careful if I were you. I hear her dad owns the place and they're spooky demons from hell."

Were they here to complain and get drunk? "Yeah, basically." Chloe raised one hand in the air and snapped her fingers. Within seconds, a waitress was by their side. she had the proportions of a sculpture, the classical ideal of femininity.

"You rang?"

"Yes, Janica. We'll need one oven mitt monster, a shot of that lemon-lime vodka, and whatever my friend Malara wants."

Once Malara had made her requests, Chloe would reveal her motivations for tonight's bout of binge drinking. "Have I told you what my dad is expecting of me?" Chloe had not told Malara about what her father expected of her. "He wants me to help him rule his slice of hell. If I go along with it I'll be collecting human souls and building up our kingdom on the back of their eternal suffering. Since I'm actually half human, you can imagine I feel pretty fucked up about that. So." She finished off her drink in a few greedy gulps and slammed it on the table. "Do you see why I invited you here, now?"

Malara smiled suggestively at the waitress and gave her a wink. "Are you on the menu, sweetheart? If not, I'll settle for a blue motherfucker and a shot of whisky."
Once her order was taken, Malara leaned forward on the bar, resting her chin on her hands.

She listened intently to Chloe's predicament and nodded at certain moments. She knew this story all too well. After the shot, she nursed her other drink slowly, knowing full well how she got when she was drunk and not wanting to ruin a chance for some good conversation.

Nodding a final time, she said,
"Yeah, I get you. And I get why you called me here. Lotta similarities. My own Mother just sees me as a tool to break open planets so she can rebuild them how she wants. Then she gets all the worship, all the adoration. I might get a fringe cult, but they're always outcasts and criminals."
After a moment, she added thoughtfully, "I never considered the whole half human thing. My thing is.... she lied to me. Made me think I was doing something good. That all those people were willing sacrifices. I thought the defending armies and the cowering civilians were... all part of some big game."

Staring into her drink a moment, Malara shook her head and forced a grin at Chloe. She had had her first nightmare about her life as a goddess just the other night. She consequently spent the better part of her day screwing random people so she wouldn't have to sleep again for a while. But it was good to talk about it, right?

The drinks came. "Thanks, Janica." Chloe immediately downed her shot of vodka and handed the glass back to her. It would save her a trip.

"I bet that made it all easier, at least," she said. "Just not thinking about what you were actually doing. Or not knowing it I guess." She sipped on her other drink; the 'oven mitt monster' was a murky, green sort of fluid.

"What ended up giving you the idea that all the people on those planets were... I mean that they had any sort of moral standing? That they were worth giving a shit about in the first place?"

Malara nodded and sipped her drink. "I guess. The suddenness of finding out though. I had a nightmare recently about it. Woke up drenched. Don't want to sleep anymore" The truth was that the dream had not scared her as much as her reaction to it. She hadn't woken up terrified, but rather turned on. That thought scared her more than anything, that she really was just some kind of monster.

"Two things really. First, I got a chance to look at my memories, and I saw the carnage I caused without whatever filter my Mother put over me. That was a shock. But also, coming here gave me a new perspective. Before, everyone I met was a lover, an enemy, or a sacrifice, sometimes a combination of the three. But I have friends here. It's a new experience."
Nodding to her drinking buddy, Malara thought for moment about her own questions.

"So how are you... I mean, how do you plan on not going through with your dad's plan for your life? Just tell him, or what?"

"Well... here's the thing," Chloe said. "I'd be inheriting godlike power and eternal life if I go through with it. And it's not like refusing to accept godlike power and eternal life from him is going to save all those damned souls. In fact, I'd only really have a chance to make their eternal suffering less awful if I went through with it."

Chloe drank more. "And I could probably try to make it so I just take the souls of people who are assholes. You know, people who probably would have ended up in some sort of hell anyway. So I'm... technically not making everything that much worse."

Of course, these were just the sorts of things Chloe told herself to make her feel better about her plans for her future. She wasn't quite drunk enough yet to confess her doubts.

"I also kinda feel like I owe something to him, you know? He's the only family I have in this entire universe."

Malara just shrugged. She didn't know what to say or if she should say anything. It wasn't her place to judge, regardless. So instead she just took more sips from her drink. Finally though, she spoke up.
"Mother only ever really saw me as a weapon of her will. So I really don't feel like I owe her anything.
But I guess I get it. You might not love your dad, per se, but he is family. I would do anything for Vatar, even if I think he's a prick."

Malara couldn't help but smile. It was nice, talking this openly. She couldn't do so elsewhere, either because Vatar would hear about it and berate her or because people just didn't understand. And, here she was having a nice conversation and her mind wasn't immediately jumping to how she could get this girl into her bed. Progress.
"I just have no direction right now. I know I want to attain godhood by my own hand. But after that, who knows."
She chuckled a little. "You seem like you've got yourself a plan at least. I just know I have to try and do good, however I would even go about that."

"Wait, wait, wait." Chloe held up a finger. "Back up. I thought you already were a goddess? Of war and sex? Why do you need to... I mean how... Ok, give me a second."

Chloe took a long sip of her oven mitt monster. She could feel her self-medication starting to kick in. "What's this about attaining godhood, then? Like, what does that even mean?" It was rapidly becoming clear that Chloe and Malara's situations weren't actually all that alike. But hey, at least they could have fun getting drunk together and bitching about it. The evening wouldn't be a total loss.

"I was a goddess because my Mother granted me part of her power. When she banished me, she took that borrowed power. All I have left is my divine spark. But I can fan it, make it grow, and regain my power by my own merit." Mal looked at her own hands as she spoke, remembering how she was banished and how her own memories weren't entirely accurate or whole.

Following Chloe's suit and taking a long sip from her drink, she shrugged at the questions. "Prayer and worship is the easiest way to attain godhood for me. I could also perform great, heroic deeds. Or... kill and drink the blood of another god. My plan is to go the first route, if possible. I already have a cult on another planet, but their prayers can't reach me here. And traveling there is probably a bad idea, since I have no doubt Mother would just try and off me the moment I landed. So I start one here."
