There it was again, that strange warmth, when Noel called Brynjar a friend. And it got stronger when Noel said he wanted Brynjar to be happy. Brynjar frowned just slightly, confused, before he smiled a bit at Noel, and nodded
"You considering me a friend is...priceless. I'm honoured. Thank you."

Brynjar hadn't had any idea what Noel could've possibly asked him for repayment, but when the man commanded him to basically be happy it more or less caught Brynjar off guard. He blinked and opened his mouth once, only to close it again. Now he certainly didn't have any words. In the first place Brynjar didn't know what made him happy. That particular feeling was absent from inside him. As for loving...
Brynjar looked down, slightly embarrassed. He liked to read of romantic love, but he had never experienced it. Brynjar wanted to, but he was so very unsure and afraid. And other kinds of love, love for his family and kindred, those feelings he had forgotten after the centuries on ice.
"I...I could never do such a thing, for personal gain. In the first place I don't...I do not know how..."
Brynjar had opened his fists and was looking at his palms, observing all the small scars he had on them. He could name all the occasions he had received them, he could see the one or what had given them to him. One scar in particular, on his right thumb, Brynjar looked at closer. It was from his childhood, when his mother had tried to teach his how to peel potatoes. A small smile drifted to Brynjar's face and for a second it was void of sadness. It returned soon enough, but Brynjar had realized something. He had not forgotten the love towards his family and comrades. He still had it. But...
Could he ever feel that same love towards anyone?

Noel just looked at Brynjar with a hint of a smile, a patient smile. It was quite endearing that he should seem so unsure, even hesitant, about the prospect of finding love - or friendship for that matter. Noel actually would have thought someone as good-looking, respectful and nice as Brynjar would have had somebody already in his life - or at least had somebody, but the way he spoke made Noel feel that he hadn't ever had anybody, and that made him feel for him. Noel found that he was always the happiest when he could share his life with someone.

"You are not being selfish wanting to be loved, Brynjar," Noel said quietly, "And it's not for personal gain because you can't make people love you. You can't just say, "Hey, you, give me your love." and it happens," Noel said laughingly.

"But you can build on a friendship, maybe eventually that will become romantic and turn into something more, who knows?!" Noel explained patiently, not wanting Brynjar to think he was telling him to go out right now and find someone. That was unrealistic. Noel knew love took time, Passion on the other hand could be instant, but love wasn't, it needed time to take hold, grow and blossom.

"Besides, it's not like you haven't got eternity to find that special person, right?" he added jokingly and grinned at Brynjar, having caught that fleeting smile of happiness and wishing he could see more of it.

Brynjar did crack a slight smile at Noel's words, when he imagined a situation he described. Brynjar knew acquiring love was not as simple as just demanding it and it fell in your lap. But Brynjar still lacked the mental strength to take the first step on his own. Brynjar also still had the belief planted in his brain, that he was meant to spend his life alone, serving others rather than himself. The slave mentality, so to say. Although Brynjar knew this true, even if you know you're colour blind doesn't mean you can see the colours. Brynjar believed that saying described his situation quite well. Brynjar looked at Noel and nodded.
"Your words ring with truth, Noel, as usual."
Brynjar sighed a bit through his nose and stroked the cover of the book in front of him.
"Eternity...I still find it hard to believe that I have eternity. As for finding a...special person..."
Just saying that word made Brynjar embarrassed, and he rubbed his face a bit with his other hand. He wasn't blushing, not exactly, but he was slightly less pale than usual. And it was probably noticeable, since Brynjar was quite pale.
"I'm very...uncertain about it..."

Noel chuckled and unconsciously stroked his beard, it was always a bit amusing when immortal mortals remembered they were immortal and had all the time in the world.

"You will, Brynjar, you definitely will find someone," Noel stated with a warm gaze as he looked at Brynjar, saw his blush ever so slightly and felt an unexpected moment of tenderness wash over him at this. "You are an amazing person, with so many great qualities and you have a such a big generous heart too. Any person would be lucky to have you," Noel stated his voice softer as he looked at Brynjar meaningfully. He honestly did think all those things about the beautiful man before him and it actually surprised him that he felt them so deeply.

"If you want, I can help you meet people?" he offered as he let his eyes move over Brynjar's face, now actually noticing details about him that he hadn't noticed before, and thinking he deserved someone kind who would treat him well, making sure his happiness came first.

Brynjar wanted to slowly sink into the ground, half out of shame and half out of embarrassment, when Noel suddenly praised him a bunch. Brynjar didn't really know how to react, no one had never said all those things about him at once. Normally he would just gently deny it and move the conversation on but from Noel it had more impact. Brynjar brushed a hand through his hair and and glanced at Noel. It was very hard to look at him. Something about Noel's gaze made Brynjar feel restless. Or made him want to run away.
"Please stop. I don't deserve such praise."
Brynjar rubbed his face again, was it getting hotter in here? The sun wasn't shining out, the clouds had covered it up. And the air conditioning seemed to be functioning normally. But for some reason Brynjar could've sworn his body temperature rose.

And when Noel even offered to help Brynjar meet people he shook his head and hands, looking quite surprised and flustered, for Brynjar. His expressions were quite subtle. But inside he was nearly panicking.
"No no, thank you but no. I wouldn't...there isn't..."
Brynjar couldn't quite find the words and stuttered slightly but his gestures were exaggerated and his face was starting to actually look like he was blushing.

Noel laughed softly at this, he didn't want to embarrass Brynjar anymore than he had, but the truth was Noel found it delightful, and rather charming, that Brynjar was so very unaware and unassuming about himself and about all his wonderful qualities. It was refreshing actually.

"Okay, okay..." Noel stated with a teasing grin "I promise I won't embarrass you any more than I already have." thinking that Brynjar was adorable and even more handsome, if that were possible, when he blushed.

"But if you won't let me introduce you to some people, at least agree to come out to dinner with me this weekend. We can catch up on things, you can tell me what you are up to, where you've been, that kind of thing," Noel suggested warmly as he held Brynjar's blue gaze for perhaps a moment too long. Feeling sort of mesmerized by it, and suddenly really hoping that he'd accept his offer.

Brynjar couldn't handle being the center of attention in any other situation aside from class, but he had never been prone of blushing and was more sullen than flustered when he became embarrassed. So he couldn't even connect his face heating up and his embarrassment. And as Noel laughed slightly and promised not to embarrass him anymore Brynjar, realizing he must look ridiculous, took a breath and straightened his back. His hair probably had a bit of a ruffled, messy look now since Brynjar had swiped his hair through it a couple times. Though he wanted to swipe his hand through it again when Noel invited him to have dinner, and looked into Brynjar's eyes maybe a tad longer than was normal. Brynjar's blush was more or less gone but that made the last of it remain on his face.
"I'd...that would be acceptable, yes. I'd be honoured to join you for dinner."
Brynjar nodded and cleared his throat a bit afterwards, not sure where he should look. Looking Noel in the face was increasingly hard now, for some reason.

As Brynjar sat up a bit, straightened his posture, his hair a bit dishevelled and messy-like from running his hands through it, Noel couldn't help but think he really was a handsome and yet somewhat imposing and chameleonic person. He was in some ways like an open book, yet not. Noel found himself being more and more fascinated by the younger man in front of him and drawn to his innate melancholy, wishing he could help him in some way, wishing he could make him smile again.

"And I'm honoured that you want to spend the evening with an old busybody god like me," he chuckled. "I am afraid everyone likes to hang out with the cool gods." he joked flashing a grin, knowing it wasn't exactly true, but Noel knew that he was quite different to the other gods on the island that often seemed intent on partying, having a good time or stirring up intrigue and mischief. Noel often thought Manta Carlos was a lot like Mount Olympus in its heyday, but here on Earth and with mortals, demons and other species running around.

"Did you want to go out someplace, or are you okay with a home cooked meal?" Noel asked as he leaned back in his chair as he considered what they should do and where to go to eat. He wasn't the greatest of cooks but he certainly could make a roast or a stew of some sort if Brynjar wanted to preferred not to go out anywhere.

Brynjar could tell Noel was joking from his words and tone, but still he somehow didn't like the man putting himself down, even as a joke. Brynjar owed a lof to him, Noel was a great person and a good god. Brynjar shook his head slightly and smiled in his own humble way.
"I don't know any other gods on the island, I only recently got back after all. And 20 years ago...wasn't the best time for me to meet gods."
Brynjar shrugged a bit, his smile slowly vanishing. But his eyes had sincerity when he said his next words.
"I'm glad I met one as good and...cool as you."
Brynjar wanted to chuckle at himself using thay word, somehow he himself knew it didn't fit him. And praising Noel, although he meant every word, was slightly embarrassing for Brynjar.

Just the thought of the two of them in a restaurant made Brynjar nervous, so thinking of sharing a hoke cooked meal made Brynjar nearly panic again. It took him a second to find some words.
"I'm, it's better we go to a restaurant. I would hate to impose on you. Rather I should be the one cooking, since I am in your debt."

At Brynjar's kind words, Noel felt himself grinning, almost foolishly, it felt good to hear that he thought he was one of the good gods out there and that he was a cool guy. He actually didn't think he was that cool, he fixed toys, caused it to snow and generally tried to spread happiness - not exactly the "coolest" things a god could do, but he was content with his lot in life, and could not see himself doing any other job.

"Thank you, Brynjar... I'm glad you think so. It means a lot that you think so highly of me," Noel confessed, his turn to actually feel somewhat flustered yet pleasantly unsettled by the man's comment.

"Oh, don't worry..." Noel said shaking his head, "You are not imposing, at all. Although truthfully, I am not the best cook out there so a nice restaurant is probably a much better choice, at least this way I won't give you food poisoning or anything..." Noel admitted with a sheepish grin as he glanced at Brynjar and actually felt himself blushing at bit. Now where did that come from, he wondered feeling his cheeks getting warmish now.
