Kylar set out a series of different English books, from child-level to older along with some cut up strawberries and other snacks for his arriving guest. He'd promised to help tutor a man for a little extra cash. Why not, Kylar had thought. He had nothing better to do, and he was bored.

When Emery came, Kylar ushered him in with a practiced smile and offered him a seat, along with some finger foods. "So, go ahead and look through these books. Let's start with me finding out what you know, yeah?"

Kylar took a seat across from Emery, arm slung across the back of the chair, and one foot rested on his opposite knee. He took a strawberry and plopped it into his mouth, chewing as he watched his temporary student for the evening.

This was... Foreign. All of this seemed so foreign to him. For once, someone was actually taking the time to help him; the little water boy that didn't know english. It was hard to sound threatening when you could barely formulate a sentence. Emery wanted that, he wanted to be seen as the mercenary he was, or for the sexual fiend he wanted to be. He thanked his new-found tutor as he came into his place. It was much smaller than his mansion, but for some reason it made more sense to him. Emery didn't know much about Kylar, other than he was younger and seemed like he cared enough to help. More than not, it was for the money.

He sat when he was told to, fiddling with his hands as the books in front of him made him nervous. Even the so called easy ones seemed like they would be a challenge. Though Emery was said to be sub-par at speaking English; there was a whole other challenge with thought of reading it. He nodded to Kylar, taking a strawberry as he had done and eating it whole, before scanning his eyes over the options. He picked up one that had pictures in it, flipping through the pages slowly, as if to try to figure it out solemnly through what had been drawn. "What want know?"

Kylar was able to suppress his laugh. Emery's question was enough of an answer, honestly. He took one of the picture books and scooted his chair until he was right next to Emery, opening the book to the first page.

"Want to tell me how your language worked?" It felt odd to Kylar that Emery didn't use conjunctions but used contractions. He would be able to help Emery a hell of a lot more if he only knew how Emery's native tongue worked. It might give him some understanding of where to start with all this.

The book he had opened was a toddler's picture book. No exact story, but rather a series of pictures with titles. Animals, colors, shapes. That sort of thing.

When Kylar got closer, he could feel his body get a bit flustered. He still wasn't used to the idea of people wanting to be around him, let alone that close. The book was pretty in his eyes, with many different colors and designs to keep anyone entertained. "How work...? Well..." It was one thing to know how it worked, and another thing for him to explain it in his already hindered English.

"Had pretty designs, different class talk different. If were to speak now, wouldn't sound same as underwater." When he spoke in his native tongue above water, it barely came out as anything. It wasn't so much that Atlantis was only water, but it may have had something to do with pressure or something. Emery himself wasn't even sure. He pointed at the things that he saw in the book, not knowing what they were or what to call them.

Kylar was not a nice man. It wasn't something he thought about or actually considered a problem. As he listened to Emery's mind and tried to understand his speech, Ky felt a form of superiority. But also, he thought, this man was not very smart. Or at the very least, a slow learner.

He suppressed a sigh and set a hand on Emery's upper back. Kylar reached out to point to particular pictures in the book, starting with something easy: the sea.

"Tell me the English equivalent of the picture I'm pointing at."

The hand on his back made him purr a bit, even if that may have sounded out of place. Nonetheless, he appreciated it. As he was presented with his first picture, he felt a bit unsure of himself. All of this was a lot to process, even if they were going slow. He blinked and nodded to the picture that he was presented. "Ah! Water, that home." Emery gave Kylar a smile, hoping that he liked the answer that he gave him.

Kylar didn't care for the purring, so he merely ignored it. Truthfully, he wasn't turned on by a whole lot. Kylar nodded at the answer and laid his finger on the picture, tapping it a few times. "Ocean. Sea. To be more specific."

Then, he turned the page, remaining leaned over, so his chest was pushed to Emery's back. The next picture was a snow covered landscape.

Emery wasn't sure as to know to react to their closeness. It was uncommon for him to be this close to others if it wasn't work related. He huffed his cheeks out as Kylar explained it better than he ever could have. He waited until the page was turned, though he wasn't sure what to do with this one. "Is white. Bottom?" He looked up to them in dismay.

Kylar supposed it made sense that Emery didn't know what snow was (how long had he been here again?) but he assumed Emery would say it was sea foam or something. He didn't understand what the bottom question meant, so he ignored it.

"Snow," he corrected and pointed to the sentence that spoke about NYC's snow covered streets. "Frozen particles of water," he explained wondering if Emery would get some of those words. But water and frozen would hopefully stand out.
