Cecete was used to being the tricky one, not the tricked. Her powers enabled her to be deceptive and creative with her attacks. She felt Alex's hand gripping onto hers tightly and gave him a mildly concerned glance. This time it was concern for him and not for the situation. Her eyes gave her boyfriend a throughout scan. Okay, he was merely on alert. No issues detected. The harpy princess slightly relaxed. She trusted her mate fully. He was a great leader and a trustworthy companion. She couldn't have asked for anything more. What she could ask for was for trees to not Evil Dead her butt.
Trees around them were popping in and out of existence. After seeing one perform this, she didn't freak out as much at the subsequent times. However, she did have her concerns. Was this an illusion, or were trees really moving around at random? It was hard to say, but at least she shared this illusion with Alex. It'd be awkward to explain the situation to him if he couldn't see it. The way the trees did this was as if they were in a horror movie and aware of it. They kept changing when the group's focus shifted. Finally one tree decided it was time to make a move.
A branch reached out and grabbed Cecete's ankle. It tried ripping her away from Alex. Another branch slid further up; it aimed at her upper thigh. With one hand still free, she pulled out one of her fans and batted the longer branch away. She swung in a small arc to sever the branch on her ankle. Suddenly more branches shot out from Alex's direction. For whatever reason, the trees were trying to grapple the blonde woman first and attempted to shove her companions towards the other trees. In a split second decision, she let go of Alex's hand to pull out the other fan. One branch ripped past that hand and lightly cut her. Blood dripped from the wound as she fought against the attempted captors.
