Valli had grown up on the island, and with that came certain benefits. He was familiar with the way the island functioned, and with the layout of the island itself. He'd started in Starlight Academy in kindergarten, and he'd moved through the grades there until he'd graduated. He was very familiar with the way the school worked, and when he'd had a chance to join the academy as part of it's staff, he'd jumped on it.

The problem was that he had no idea how the school worked from the perspective of a member of the staff. He'd spent almost no time in any of the staff rooms, and they were all very, very new.

It was a bit too easy to get confused.

Thankfully, Valli had long since got past the stage where he'd feel self conscious about asking someone simply questions. The staff room he was in was mostly empty at the moment, but at least one other member of the faculty was there--a man around his age, with strange markings (scales?) around his eyes.

"Excuse me," Valli said, stepping up to the side of the man's desk. "Are you busy at the moment?"

Being a teacher wasn't the easiest job in the world but Trent had been enjoying it. Every day he tried to engage his students whenever possible. Right now he was actually calculating how many oozes he was going to need to retrieve from another universe to teach his students about the magical biology of a creature that in some definitions had no biology.

"Hmm.... I should probably grab only a few greens. Won't want the plasma getting out and about terrorizing the students..." He mumbled to himself as he wrote a few complicated looking notes down in his note pad that he had in front of him. Judging what he was going to need to build to keep the gelatinous creatures contained safely so the students could observe them. It was then that he heard a young man's voice talking to him. Blinking Trent looked up from his notes to the man.

"Oh, sorry... was entrenched in some expense calculations." it took him only a few moments to recall what the man had asked just a moment ago. "Oh no, not particularly. How may i assist you?"

"Don't worry about it," Valli said, waving off the man's apology. He hadn't been waiting long, and it wasn't like it was a big deal to be kept waiting anyway. Valli was pretty relaxed with that sort of thing, and even more so when he was dealing with another member of the faculty.

"Sorry, I've only been faculty for a few weeks - where are the keys to the supply closets?" He knew they were somewhere, but the exact where remained a mystery. There was definitely a key though, and assuming that the man he'd picked wasn't also new, he'd probably know where it was.

The supply closest...yes, that was a good question. Most of the stuff Trent used was from his own personal funds and he brought most of it from his Lair. Putting a hand to his chin Trent delved into his draconian memory trying to remember where the keys usually were. From what Trent was remembering there was a couple of different supply closets depending on what the faculty needed. "Well I guess that would depend on what sort of supplies are needed. I'm the teacher for Multi-Dimensional Mythical Creature Biology, most of the equipment I need I make myself or grab from back home."

Though if the young man was just asking for basic supplies then that could easily be obtained. "Though for general stuff, like paper, pencils and the like. The keys to the General Supplies are just right over there by the door. Don't need everyone to have special keys." taking a moment to look the young man up and down and blinking for a moment Trent stood up and brushed off his mage robes.

"You know, I don't think I've seen you around before. Must be new." Trent put his hand forward to shake hands with the young man. "Trent Evensman, like I said before Teacher of the MDMC Biology. and you?"

Valli couldn't help but feel that therapy was a bit mundane compared to multi-dimensional mythical creature biology, but he also supposed that it was just as necessary.

It was also probably a lot easier for him to get his supplies then it was for someone else.

"Fireproofing, actually. I inquired about using a power training room, and I was told that someone had pre-prepared fireproofing spells that teachers could grab," Valli explained, wondering just how much money and effort he'd save by not having things in his office catch on fire.

Valli reached out, taking Mr. Evensman's hand and giving it a firm shake of his own.

"Valli Bryndísarson, but I go by Valli," he said. "I'm a therapist. In light of what happened at the corn maze, I was invited to join the faculty full time, since there's a greater need for therapy among the students. Have you been teaching here long, then?"

"Well glad to say Welcome to the Faculty, though the circumstances behind it could have been better." Taking the hand shake whole heartedly. "Now for the fireproofing spells, hmm..." Once Trent broke the handshake he brought the hand up to his chin. "If I remember correctly they put those near the training rooms themselves. I'll walk with you, get to know the new man in a sense." Trent gave Valli a friendly smile. He took a brief moment to grab some keys from his desk before motioning for Valli to follow him.

"Now Valli, are you going to be teaching or going to go more along the lines of School Therapist? Helping those student who may have had... difficulties that have cause mental trauma?" Trent said in with a light conversational tone. Though in his head that he wished that they had someone like Valli back home. That ancient fallen avatar had been quite traumatizing. "Hope we can take better care of the students after that whole Corn Maze incident."

Valli was happy for the company, even if he had a general idea which supply closets were located near the power rooms. It was easy to fall in beside Trent, and easier still to fall into a casual conversation with him.

"I'm not teaching," Valli said. "I'm not sure I'd be able to design a half decent curriculum, and I'd rather focus on mental health care full time. I'm sure someone with an education in education would do a better job teaching then I would."

Valli paused for a moment, clearing his throat and worrying ever so slightly that he was going to be dragging the mood down.

"Unfortunately, the nature of the island is that a lot of the students have some kind of trauma in their history. Mental health services are always overwhelmed, but even still we want to normalize seeking out help as much as possible."

Trent listened to Valli with interest as they walked the halls. It was true that making a curriculum was hard Trent was learning that while he was teaching. Certain things were easier to implement into a class then others. Though one thing was different from what Valli was telling him, Trent never got a degree to teach. Everything Trent had learned he had experienced from his time adventuring and exploring. "I actually don't have a degree in teaching my young friend. But everything I've learned over my life I have lived. Nothing in my class have the students done that I didn't do in some dark cave, or ancient crypt."

"Use to be an adventurer. Or well, I guess that term might not have the same weight here then from where I come from... In other terms I guess you could say I was part Explorer part Monster Exterminator... Maybe a Hero is a better way to say it." Trent shrugged, "I've had to face the unknown and sometimes learn how to kill the unknown for the saftey and defense of empires. Some of those horrors though, now that I've lived here for some years, could have been the students or the parents of students here."

But Trent waved off his comment like it was nothing. "But I do agree, a lot of students here have had their troubled pasts. Some even have a nack to try to hunt for their origions." Trent raised a finger in the air like he just remembered something. "Do you know a Hudson Ward? He's a student of mine, had a talk with him a while ago. I think it would be a good idea to point you in his direction. The boy needs help and I've tried to give him the most that I could in my own field."

Oops.

"I didn't mean to say that someone who didn't have a degree wasn't qualified," he said. "Just in my case, I certainly don't feel that way."

He'd have a better time teaching someone to cook then teaching someone psychology. Even though he understood it, Valli felt that a huge portion of his knowledge was things he'd learned over time, rather than things he was taught. Experience, he believed, was a huge part of why he did so well.

"Well, If they were a patient of mine, I couldn't admit if they were a patient or not," Valli said non-comittally. "I don't acknowledge any of my patients, effectively. But whether they're a patient or not, you can always encourage them to sign up for an appointment."

Discretion was very, very important in Valli's line of work.

"Therapy is far more useful when they come of their own free will, unfortunately."

Valli seemed to back pedal on the subject of being taught how to instruct hatchling. Trent just waved his hand through the air like he was clearing away smoke. "No need to apologize my young friend. We all have our own confidences, it could also be that in my subject was best learned in the field. But not many have the capabilities to face the unknown and come back whole. So I bring the field to the young so they can be better prepared for what they might face."

When the subject about getting Mr Ward therapy was back in the focus Trent gave a small sigh, so many confirmations and counter-confirmations that any end result would be skewed in any direction. "I was more asking to see if you might approach him. Coming from me as a teacher it might sound like a command. But alas tis neither here nor there."

As Trent walked for a bit in his own thoughts he blinked and stopped in his tracks. His breathing became rougher as he put a hand on the nearest wall and he closed his eyes. He could feel his massive draconian weight pressing him from all sides, this wasn't the first time nor would it be the last. When he opened his eyes again they would briefly flash a slitted pupil like that of a cat but with reptilian coloration before shifting back to human norms. "Sorry about that... had... had to catch my breath." It was a lame explanation but how else would he explain it.
