OOC:Anyone is invited to post if they want to say hi to the new students, or whatever. Please join in, just not as the roommate. That position is already taken.

Anthony Toselli was nervous. Who wouldn't be? He was going to meet new people, new friends, he hoped, and a new life. The past few days were a blur. He had woken up late one afternoon when his parents told him to pack up to move out. It was a surprise, considering he had been stuck at some crappy apartment for months ever since his home had burned down. No... that's not right. Since HE burned down his home. While not directly his fault, he felt like he set the fire himself. Ever since, his family was moved to temporary housing while insurance was sorted out. Tony, himself, was not allowed to go to college in the Fall as he should have. They were worried that something strange would happen again, and they would be held accountable if it harmed another student, or the college as a whole. His parents told him that they had found a place that dealt with strange things like the portals Tony was dealing with. A school where he would be spending an indefinite amount of time there.

Tony wasn't all that pleased with the arrangement, but it was better than rotting away at home. It felt like getting sent off to prison. When he actually arrived at the Starlight Academy, the architecture and landscape assuaged his concerns a bit. It seemed oddly... normal. Kinda like how he expected college to be. There were some younger kids hanging around, but they seemed to derp around by themselves. However, the occasional strange occurrence reminded him that this was not a normal academy; someone flying by, or clearly not human.

He had been directed to the admissions office, where he spent a few painful hours filling out paperwork and talking with the staff. Armed with a map of the campus, his class schedule, and a room number that is supposed to be his new living arrangement, Tony headed for the dorm. He only had one duffel bag of clothes, the staff had assured him he could get more at a later date. It's not like he cared all that much for variety in fashion.

The dorm itself seemed nice enough. A few people were hanging out in the lounge, watching TV and playing games. He passed them up and went down the halls to the room he was directed to. He turned the handle, only to realize it was locked, and the staff forgot to give him a key!

"Ugh, you've gotta be kidding me." He muttered to himself. He tried the door again, shaking it violently, in case it was just stuck. He was just about to leave and return to the admissions office when he heard the lock click, and the door swing open.

<div align=center>A large room was what he'd requested, and Jack supposed this room would be alright. The size didn't matter to him personally, he was a small boy, and didn't need all that much space, but someone else didn't agree on that matter. He'd taken the time to unpack his things and fold them away in the drawers available, he'd picked out a bed - the one by the window - and had tucked everything else away that he didn't need underneath his bed. A screech came from one side of the room, and something collided heavily with his shoulder. He felt a pair of claws dig into the material of his shirt, and a scaly head nuzzle softly against his neck. "You have to promise me one thing," he told the creature, golden eyes flickering over to set themselves on a pair of icy blue ones staring back at him. "No fire, okay?" He asked.

Zara scrambled up onto the boy's head, settling there for a brief moment before launching herself across the room and fluttering clumsily up to the top of a wardrobe on the other side of the room. Fire wasn't a real problem for Jack, but he didn't really want all his things burned to cinders- that had already happened once, he was reluctant for it to happen again. A sound made him turn his head, and made little Zara hiss loudly. The spines along her neck raised, and she bore her teeth. It occurred to Jack that someone might be trying to get in.

He crossed the room to the door, reaching for the handle and pulling it open. Zara backed against the wall, and remained on top of the wardrobe, teeth bared in a silent snarl. "It's alright, little one." Jack glanced back at her briefly, she relaxed and crept forward again, a little like a rather odd kitten. He came face to face with a boy, the one who he guessed had been trying to get in. The thought struck him, that this was probably his room mate. He looked older than him, though maybe by only a couple of years. "Oh, hi..." He smiled just a little, "I guess you're my room mate?"</div>

Tony was surprised someone had opened the door from the inside. He had expected the room to be vacant. He looked upon Jack with disdain. "Roommate? What are you talking about? They didn't say I was going to be sharing a room! And not with... a... kid..." His train of thought was interrupted when he noticed the black lizard perched on Jack, almost hiding behind his head and shoulders. Tony leaned up and over ever so slightly, getting a better view. He had a look of curiosity and stupor on his face. "Is that... what I think it is?"

A moment later he snapped back to himself, looked away and rubbed his temples with one hand. "I keep forgetting where I am. And a dragon, it is a dragon, right? A dragon is hardly the strangest thing I've seen today." He turned back to face Jack, now that he had regained his composure. "Are you going to tell me that you're really a dragon in disguise or something, and that thing is really just your younger brother?"

Tired of lugging his clothes around, he plopped his bag on the floor, and shook out his shoulder. "But no, really, this is your room? I didn't think they would be making us share rooms, considering how fancy this whole place seems." His eyes kept going back and forth between Jack, and his passenger. Despite getting over his initial shock, he was still very curious, and uneasy about the tiny dragon.

<div align=center>Jack hadn't been informed he'd be having a room mate, either. He didn't really mind though, but it probably would have been better if he'd been alone with the dragon. Zara was an awfully jealous creature, it didn't matter who Ridley talked to, she was jealous of everyone. She thought she should have the attention all the time, and didn't fully understand when it wasn't given to her. He nodded when the older boy asked him what he thought Zara was. "She's a baby dragon... She's not very old, but she's got a habit of... Burning things.." He answered, carefully. He didn't want to put poor Tony off him in five minutes they had known each other.

He supposed there were stranger things than dragons around, a thought struck him, that asked himself what on earth he would do with Zara when she was fully grown. She certainly wouldn't be able to live in the school anymore, and she certainly wouldn't be all that friendly, he didn't think so, anyway. She was picky with the people she attached herself to, it was an honor if she ended up taking to you. Jack laughed a little at the next thing Tony said, shaking his head. "Me? A dragon? No, no, no." That would be strange, he thought. Zara hissed loudly at the words little brother. She hadn't liked that. "It'd be little sister, if I was a dragon." He added, softly.

Jack shrugged, there were a lot of students at the school. If everyone had their own room, the school would probably be a whole lot bigger. Many of the students shared rooms, he hoped this boy didn't end up being nasty, though. Jack didn't get a bad vibe from him, and Zara wasn't in a hurry to scorch his face off. "Oh, uh. I'm Ridley by the way, this is Zara."</div>

Tony was a bit taken aback at Jack's friendliness, but his features softened and he rubbed the back of his head. "Aww geeze. You make it real hard to be angry, you know that? I'm Tony." He propped the door open, picked up his bag, and moved into the room. Tossing his bag onto the unoccupied bed, Tony took a good look at his new home. It was fairly bare bones, but that was intended. A pair of small desks, two small bureaus, and a shared closet. It would take a bit of sprucing up before it really felt like somewhere he could live. "Did you just move in, too? This place is way too clean for anyone to have lived here long." He opened some of the drawers, checking if they were empty. "We'll have to pick up a few things. Maybe a table or something."

He plopped himself down on his bed to get off his feet for a bit. He kicked his shoes off and stretched out on the bed. "Jack and Zara, huh? Is she well behaved? What does she eat? Am I to expect dragon turds in my laundry?"

<div align=center>Jack smiled brightly at the introduction, he hadn't even realized that the older boy had been irritated about having a room mate. He generally wasn't very good at working out when others were cross or irritated, he was so happy most of the time that he sometimes assumed that everyone else was like that, too. Jack nodded when asked if he had just moved in, at least he'd moved in only about a day or so ago. He hadn't really had the chance to make it more of a home yet, he'd been altogether quite worried about Zara burning everything. Luckily, that hadn't happened yet. Yet. He thought perhaps he should invest in a fire extinguisher just in case.

Is she well behaved? Jack paused before answering that one, glancing nervously at the little lizard, who was now perched upon the windowsill. He wondered if he should open the window for her. How high up were they? She wasn't very good at flying just yet, he didn't want her to fall and hurt herself, or worse. "Well... She's... Stubborn..." He said, slowly. That was probably the right word to use, without offending the scaled creature. "What does she eat? She catches birds sometimes, but she'll eat whatever I've got... I should probably get something for her." Freshly cut meat was generally what she ate, though not raw of course. Dragons weren't fond of raw meat, at least, this one wasn't, "oh, no... She's very clean."</div>

Tony stared intently at the sunbathing dragon. He was curious about her, but with how small she was she seemed more like any regular lizard. Just a regular lizard with wings and breathed fire! At least there weren't any signs that the room had been scorched so far. The thought of a scorched room brought back bad memories, and a pained look crossed his face for a moment. Tony snapped back to a more normal expression, and hoped Jack had been looking away just then. "Well, I guess Zara will be fine, then. We'll manage."

Something crossed his mind that had been bugging him for a while. It seemed like a really socially awkward thing to ask, but everyone at the academy seemed so strange to him. Even if they didn't appear to be, there was a feeling of being a foreigner. Tony just didn't belong here, in his mind. Tony looked sharply over at Jack. "Hey Jack. I'm sorry to ask this, but why are you here, at the academy? I don't mean Zara, or anything like that. Why are YOU here? Why not live whatever life you had before?" Jack pulled his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around and setting his head on them. He looked down at the foot of the bed, not wanting to look Jack in the eyes as he spoke. "I... caused a lot of trouble for people. They were scared, I was scared. Getting sent here feels like a prison sentence. I know it's for the best, but I can't help the feeling that we're just getting stuck on some island away from everyone else, so we can't ruin their pretty little world." As he went on his words dripped with venom and a quiet seething anger. This wasn't the first time this had crossed his mind, so he couldn't really get worked up over it, but he didn't have the opportunity to talk to anyone about it.

<div align=center>Jack shrugged, Zara would have to be fine, otherwise he wasn't sure what he was going to do with her. He still didn't know what was going to happen when she grew, he hoped there was somewhere for her to live when she was enormous, he didn't really like the thought of her having to fend for herself, regardless of the fact that that she would probably do far better than him. Zara had since fluttered clumsily across the room and curled up on Jack's pillow, head tucked up against her side. He frowned at the next question he was asked.

"But I am here because of her." Ridley had no special powers, not really, anyway. He couldn't read minds, he couldn't shoot fire from his hands, he couldn't breathe underwater or fly or anything like that. He wasn't really willing to go into detail about anything, it wasn't exactly upsetting for him, it was just long and boring and he didn't feel like telling it. "I guess fire doesn't really hurt me..." He answered, slowly. That was true. Jack was completely fire resistant aside from his hair and clothes of course, but everything else was absolutely fine, he'd been set on fire by the baby dragon three times already this week. Once in the ferry on the way to the school, once in the lobby and once when he'd accidentally stood on her tail while she'd been running around on the floor.

She'd burned up three shirts and one jacket, which Jack hadn't really been very pleased about, but he supposed that was what you got when you lived with a baby dragon, there wasn't really much to stop her from setting things on fire apart from her own moral, which she didn't really have very much of, now that he thought about it. Jack hoped she would never set him on fire on purpose though, they were too close for her to want to do that. Other people, however... Jack didn't really have any power to stop her from doing that, though he supposed he could muzzle her. Zara certainly wouldn't appreciate that one bit, though. </div>
