Octain had returned home late one night to notice the house was empty. A plate of food made for him with a note from lexi.

'Please eat when you get home.. I'm worried for you..'

Octain stayed up all night looking at his cracked mask. His Hazel eyes staring at the cracks in it. As if trying to find a reason that it is cracked with out blaming himself. his shattered heart of what he did. his eyes teared up a bit as his lips almost twitched to snarl like a dog that wanted to eat.

He smiled a bit under his broken mask that with intense thought had cracked as his heart was slowly breaking into pieces over someone. He tried not to think about it as he grabbed a bottle of scotch instead and went up to his room.

He took his mask off to take a drink from the bottle. This was a bad night for him. He wasn't used to being in one spot. Nor his past haunting him like it did. He saw the faces of his once friends turned enemies. He sat on his bed and drank for a little while. Hearing pained screams in his head. Almost begging for them to stop. Till he thought about Genesis..

Genesis.. His heart calmed down as his mask cracked.

It was about One AM at night when he was up. His insomnia caught the best of him tonight as he had a huge event to go to. Yet may not have the strength or will to go. He was going to send his assistant.

Genesis....

The mask's cracked a little bit more. It was his own heart as he took it and tossed it at the wall. His eyes and ears with a pained expression after realizing that the world was against his life with Genesis. They worked together yet Octain wanted more. Though he realized that possibly though what Genesis was talking about the last time they talked. It was strictly business.

He NEEDED more.

The mask shattered into pieces. The sound of broken porcelain echoed in his house. The house he wasn't alone in except his daughter. Who wasn't even his REAL daughter. Just.. The daughter he always wanted. Lexi was beautiful young girl. Someone who Octain had a special place in his heart for as a father figure to her. Someone she looked to for advice. Even she slowly stopped relying on him and used other teachers.

Though he looked at the broken pieces of the mask. His insecurities got the best of him as he looked at the pieces and just stared at them. Shattered. Broken. discarded.

Just like his life...

Lexi awoke to something shattering. Something wasn't right in the house. She found herself on the couch at 1 am with the TV on the main menu of movie she was watching. She rubbed her eyes looking for her babysitter and thought they that they might have broken something as she moved to the kitchen. Though through going to the main hall she notices her dad's shoes were there. Leaving nothing to chance she ran to the kitchen first.

His food was still here. Lexi was extremely worried about Octain's health recently. He hasn't slept much, ate at all. It was all about his work now. Though Lexi DID feel partially to blame. She was going to school now. Dealing with people who could hurt her. Or try to take her away from her father. She didn't care much for it, but wanted to keep her father happy in anyway shape and form. So she remembered that the sound came from upstairs as she ran up stairs.

"DADDY!?" She cried at the top of her lungs. As she opened the one door she wasn't allowed to.

Octain's bedroom.

When she opened the door she found clothes, water bottles, books and almost everything else mundane on the ground. She looked around the room and saw her father, looking at the broken mask. His face covered only by darkness as she slowly crept over. Her eyes and face heavy with worry. The young girl then held one of Octain's hands.

"D-Daddy? What's wrong?" She said softly. Almost at a breaking point. she had never seen octain with a mask. nore in this kind of situation. She was full of worry that she wanted to do what she could to make him feel better. To do what was right.

Be the daughter of the greatest man in her life.

Her father.

Octain was almost trapped in his own mind. The idea of Octain, the last of his order and the last Magistar. He was in a room that had no escape. No entrances. No exits. Just him in a room in a single chair in his mind while his real body stared at the mask on the ground. He was trying to find a way out of his head as he looked around each wall, calmly. Trying to keep his mind clear from fear or doubts. Though they still ate at him.

'Was it worth it?'

'Was it worth the aggravation?'

'Will she accept after you fess up?'

'You cheated.'

'You failed them.'

Octain heard in the room. His voice from different directions. When he looked in each direction he saw no one till he stood up. And he was face to face with the mask. Together in a pristine condition as he shot a lightning bolt at it after chanting. The mask vanished.

'You cannot get rid of this shadow easily Orias.'

He heard from behind as he turned around and did the same thing. As if to get it to stop.

'She is your salvation. So you believe.'

Octain stopped. She...

'That is right. Lexi. The daughter that isn't even yours. That you pulled around and kept her safe for years. Now, it-'

Octain awoke from his trance by has hand being held. His eyes closing a few times as he came back to his real body almost. Looking at the hand. It... It was Lexi's. He looked over at Lexi using magic to hide his pained expression as his past was haunting him. Even kings had a past that would hunt them down slow.

"I am fine little one.."

He said softly trying to reassure her.

"I had just got a little careless and broke my mask.." he said, closing the open bottle of alcohol and putting it under the bed for later. He was hungry. Extremely hungry. Though he didn't want Lexi to worry at all.

"That was a fine meal you prepared my dear.' he said with a smile on under the shadow that was his face due to magic.

Lexi noticed that Octain was in a trance and held his hand even tighter. She looked down thinking he was lost as she looked back up at him with a smile that slowly weakened as she let go and began to scoot away. Slowly shifting herself to turn away from him.

"You liar... You didn't eat today.. You haven't eaten much in a long time.." She said, almost at the brink of tears as she used her handkerchief and began to wipe the tears. She was worried about him and thought that some tough love might fix it..

But something didn't feel right about Octain. It seemed.. off..

"Daddy? Is something wrong? Your mask is broken.. I can smell the drink you just had.." She said turning around. Her beautiful smiling face now covered in streams of tears as well as sadness.

"What did I do wrong? Tell me dad.."

She said as she put her hands over her face. "Just tell me and I'll fix it.."

Octain notices that Lexi had caught onto his lie about the food.. and that she caught onto his drinking as he sighed a bit. Slowly moving towards Lexi to wrap his arms around her. His face now showing the pained yet gentle expression on his face. The first time he would ever show is face to another human in the past decade as he put his hands on her shoulder as he pushed himself away to look at the face of his daughter.

"I have just not been hungry of late.. My thirst for knowledge grows as my hunger is driven away by that fact. The arcane shall sustain me. Though I shall have it for lunch tomorrow." He said wiping her tears away slowly with his thumbs are her possibly surprised expression. "I.. Have fallen inlove with a beautiful lady at work.. Though.." He stopped himself. "It may just be a fools venture that I must get over and not pursue." He said. Almost forgetting the fact of his lies about her mother.

She wasn't coming back at all...

There was no way to bring someone back from the dead after a decade.

"I am just worried for you as well Lexi. I do not want you to be harmed. there is only so much I can do to protect you from some of the people of this school.." Octain said. His mind still running wild about Genesis as he moves his hand over his heart as the mask shattered even more into tiny pieces. His heart felt heavy at the thought of trying to forget how he felt. Forgetting her.

That was going to be the hardest part. He slowly felt a tear run down his face as he looked at the ground. Looking away from his daughter.

She would at least know that he was never like this about people.

Unless he truly cared for them.

Lexi looked at her dad's face for once.. She was stunned as she saw his face. Her vision clouded by her tears as she wiped them off. Seeing her fathers face for the first time since she knew him. He was handsome to say the least. As a daughter would view her father at least. She was awe struck at this first even.

"A-Alright dad.." She said as he was talking about the food for lunch. She looked down and gulped a bit as her eyes widened. "I.. I know your work is tiring but you need to take care of yourself dad. I don't want to lose you."

Her eyes widened a lot more at the mention of another girl that was worming her way into his heart. "Does.. That mean you don't love mommy anymore?" She said looking up at her. Clearly distraught at the fact. Though she closed her eyes and sighed. "Well.. Seeing as how you raised me on your own... I guess... I mean..." She almost broke into tears. "I wanna meet mommy.. but.. I want you to be happy dad."

When she heard that he wasn't going to pursue the girl who had his heart. Lexi's fists clenched. Her knuckles turned white. "I think you should daddy.. You always told to me do what my heart desires.. If she is what you want. You should go for it.. I want a mommy if it is someone you love.. I just..." She sighed as he hands went back to being open. "I love you daddy.. but I just.. I want someone that you think is worthy of your heart and that will accept you and I. Even if she isn't my real mom."

When Octain had told her about his worries she held him tight in her arms. "Daddy.. You do so much for me.. You don't need to worry about me. I'm a big girl now.. I can take care of myself. Plus.. If I am in a bind I can call you to help.. Remember?" She said lightly kissing his cheek for once. She smiled at the feeling of his skin for once. Instead of the mask.

"If you care so much about this girl.. Work or not. Try to get to know her dad.. Try to get her to understand how she feels about you.." She said. Picking up on his feelings through one of her heightened senses from being part cat. She pulled away and patted his head lightly.

"As long as you are still alive.. You will never lose me my dear." He said softly. "I can take some time to myself ever now and then to recollect my thoughts and sleep should I need it. for now I just need to ensure you have a safe future here. So that we need not move around as often." He said with a smile on his face. Noticing she was surprised at his face. his scar running across his face was the only feature he wasn't a fan of. but was him.

He had to think of something to say to Lexi. About her 'mother' he closed his eyes with a heavy sigh. "We were in love once.. Just.. With her gone, I have no idea if she even walks the same earth anymore." He said looking at the ground for a few moments. Then placed a hand on her head for a moment, then to softly move it to her cheek. "Lexi... I do not think your mother will ever return.. I cannot say for sure.."

HE listened to watch Lexi said as he placed his hand on her fist. Just to ensure that she knew he was there. "I know.. I have just.. Not been this in love with someone for a long time. I am just afraid that she does not share my feelings or she doesn't wish the same as I." He looked away for a moment. He took a moment to recollect himself. Before looking back at Lexi. "I love you too Lexi.. I just wish to find someone who you enjoy their company as much as you do theirs.."

One day he wanted to tell her about her real parents.. Though he was worried about triggering someone in her that would force a relapse and she would forget him too. That was his worry. His biggest worry.

"I wish only the best for my daughter. Nothing is too good for you." He said with a smile as he moved to lean back against his bed. Closing his eyes remembering her power. "Indeed.. I shall always be there at any time you require."

"You.. Are right.. I should try to at least try to ask her to grace me with her presence over coffee or something of the sort.. Something simple to start." he said. Recalling Genesis' long pink hair with a warm smile on his face. Feeling lexi's hand on his head he looked at her with his smile.

For once.

He felt accepted.

He felt....

Like he was home.

Lexi sighed for a moment. "I think I understand daddy.. I just.. As long as I have you I am happy dad." She said with a smile on her face. She sat beside him slowly as she curled up a bit into him. She truly was a child at heart. Acted her age, though was a little more mature for her age. She looked up at her father before closing her eyes and resting her head on his shoulder. "As long as you are happy dad. I am." She said as she just spent some time resting against him.

"You need more faith in yourself.. Your work can take a back seat to your heart dad. I know I am young and don't know much but.. Your happiness means the most to me and I just want you to be happy with what you do and you are with." She opened her eyes and purred slightly as she giggled a bit. "Just remember. Your powers aren't as important as your love for someone daddy."

She then moved to stand and lean down so she as face to face with Octain. A maskless man with all the powers in the world, except control of his own heart.

"So.. Whose the lucky lady?" She said teasingly being extremely nosey.

Octain couldn't help but smile at the fact that Lexi was right. She was right about everything. He had put his work ahead of him so much he never had time to find anyone that had his heart in such a grip. Though now that his personal, love and work lives were now all intertwined in such a way that it was almost a recipe for disaster. He decided to follow his heart.

"Thank you dear. Your words ring only truth. Please forgive me." he said with a smile. "I shall try to find someone who will accept you and I for who we are.. father and daughter." He said lightly touching her nose with his index finger as she stood up. Looking at him face to face.

"Her... Name is Genesis. She works with me as my assistant for now. She hopes to teach herself one day." He said. Thinking that was enough before hearing a huff from Lexi. "Fine fine... She's a Zodiac Elf.. One of the most beautiful ones in the world.. She is highly capable as well as... Out right beautiful.. I cannot find the words to describe how i feel about her.. My heart keeps telling me to go for it. She's.. Like a star on the earth. Radiating beauty of such high strength that even I have fallen victim. She's.. Everything... I ever wanted.."

He said. Closing his eyes. Imaging her face. Her hair. Her perfume. That natural scent she has.. With a bright smile.

"I do believe that I am in love.."

Lexi smiled at Octain's response. He really was in love with someone and she sat down beside him again and laughed to herself a bit. "She sounds wonderful." She said trying to calm herself down at the thought of this relationship of someone he feels so fondly of as she couldn't help but feel a bit down.

"Daddy.. Just be careful. I don't want you getting hurt." she said lightly holding his hands in hers. Looking at him rather defeated. She just wanted her father to be happy more than anything. "try to find out if it is worth it. I will do what I can to help you!" She said standing up.

Her mood shifted a lot as she began to run out of the room and turned around.

"I'll go talk to her sometime! Plus she sounds like a lot of fun!" She stated with a cheery smile as well as her voice to match it as she ran back into the room again and hugged her dad. She dropped to her knees to hug him tight. Almost forgetting her own strength

"I am sure that you can do it. There is nothing you can do."

She let go and ran back out of the room heading to her room to lay down in her bed. Trying to sleep but failing miserably at the thought of the future addition to the household.
