Aurum had no family to go to during the school's Christmas Break. He did not understand it at all. Something to give presents and spend family with. Aurum was pretty much as alone as alone could be. No sons of Daughters. No parents. No one to spend time with. He was with out family thought had picked up a few gifts. Books of sorts for people in the school. He had been a good cook with in the school and ended up cooking for the school to having Christmas Lunch for the school.

It still still second nature for him to have his Aegis on as he spent time and sent a nice Turkey dinner, filled plates to those of the school who had no one to return to with in the few days. Even if was Christmas break. If some students had no where to go. Aurum wanted to make atleast them feel like they had someone.

As he was cutting and setting up plates. This was not normal cafe food. Aurum only used the best as the few students in the cafe were being served. Eventually he sat down in a chair in the back. Using his little floating skull showing small passages from his texts that he used to love oh so much.

He used to breath them. Live them. He was loyal to someone who had chosen him. Now. Not so much. He was still loyal but the demons of this time were... Helpful. A few had been nice to Aurum after he had threatened their very lives.

He gripped a small icon and held it close to him. It was in the shape of an I but looked off. Towards the students and smiled. His eye had a fire blue to them as he had his Aegis on. A power with in him that would cause most demons to be uncomfortable or have huge problems. His eyes gazed about from a shadowed area in his black suit. Everything was black.

Even if he used to be a Grey Knight. He understood. Black was good.

There was something distinctly unsettling about Aurum, the massive man who worked in the Cafeteria. It wasn’t the size that bothered Chloe – she’d known larger people who were nothing but a delight to be around. It wasn’t the floating skull thing either; she actually thought that was awesome. No – Aurum made Chloe uncomfortable for a different reason.

A deeper reason. An instinctive one. Chloe felt it in her bones, knew in a way beyond knowing that there was something off about this man. She never said anything about it, though – he was a fine cook, and a perfect gentleman to her in every brief conversation they had. She just assumed it was just a weird feeling, and she tried to ignore it.

But it was hard to ignore, with Aurum sitting so close to her now. He sat down at the table right next to hers, only a few meters away, with his own food. Chloe was sitting all by herself. Now, more than ever, she wanted Cheeto to be there with her. When was the little goblin going to get here? Did she already eat? She felt alone, eating this Christmas feast by herself, and she felt weirdly unsafe with Aurum sitting so close by.

They made eye contact.

Seconds later, Chloe felt like her insides were on fire. She started to sweat. She almost wanted to run away and throw up. The feeling caught her by surprise; she nearly fell out of her seat, sending her knife and her spoon clattering to the floor and drawing a lot of attention in the process. She was having trouble breathing. When she grabbed her glass of water, she saw that her hand was shaking.

Aurum was always confounded by his little friend, the Servo Skull moved higher into the air on it's own. It had it's own will some had thought. Aurum's bionic eye had honed and moved his head to a disturbance in the room, a few pieces of cutlery had fallen to the ground. The sound had gotten Aurum's attention.

Aurum had left his seat at this point and moved over and with a handkerchief noticing the girl sweating. His almost blazing blue eyes had looked at her eyes from a close distance.

"Are you alright? Is there an issue?" He said quickly looking the girl over. He cooked the food himself and knew that it was the finest as well as the best he could get his hands on.

He then looked back at Chloe and kept trying to find out what was wrong though just looking her over. If it wasn't the food, seemed to have been fast. What was it? Aurum was at a loss for this in many different ways. He wanted to find what was wrong. The Servo Skull had brought a glass of water in a little claw it had and placed it on the table beside Aurum as he patiently awaited the girls answer.

Of all the people who could have come to her aid, it had to be freaking Aurum. Chloe had the distinct feeling that being near him was making her worse, but that didn’t make any sense. She took a shaky sip of water.

“I’m in pain,” she said. “It’s a burning pain, like my insides are on fire.” Her breathing was becoming labored and irregular, but her voice was calm and level. She looked at Aurum’s creepy blue eyes. “I don’t know why, but I think it’s getting worse.” The eyes unsettled her more than anything else. On an intellectual level, she knew that Aurum had no reason to want to hurt her, but something in those eyes told her a different story.

Chloe proceeded to down her entire glass of water. It didn’t help anything.

Aurum gave some thought to the symptoms and began to access the medical records of the school. Symptoms that were weird and had only ONE major cause. For a bit he was seeming the floating skull show a holographic object that had text that Aurum could see due to his Bionic eye. His flaming blue eye looked at the text saying 'Psyker Power; The Aegis'

Aurum himself was the cause.

He closed his eye for a moment and his Bionic eye whirled to a halt. Slowly the power had died down and cause Chloe to make a slow recovery. in a bout a minute she would feel fine. Aurums now Glazed blue eye and blue bionic eye as he looked at Chloe.

"Do you feel any better?"

As far as Chloe could tell, Aurum decided to cut their conversation short to stare at his floating-skull-thing and ignore her. She spent a few seconds staring at him, then shrugged and turned back to her food. Pain or no, she was still hungry, and she still had a fork and a turkey dinner in front of her. She tried for a moment to ignore the pain and to keep eating. The fork shook in her hands, and she took small, infrequent bites.

The demon-girl started to feel better. Seconds later, Aurum asked her if she felt better. This probably wasn’t a coincidence. Chloe turned to look at him, finding him a lot less unsettling than usual

“I… am, starting to feel better, actually,” she said. “Did you do that?”

Aurum nodded his head at her question. She was feeling better which was good. So he wanted to try to make amends with her as best as possible and got back up and moved his things to set a person apart from Chloe. His eyes looked at the Skull and the Skull spun around and made itself scarce in the room. If Chloe had followed the Servo Skull it almost perched onto a hanging chandelier to watch the room silently.

"Indeed. I fear that one of my powers have effects on Demons. No matter how diluted the blood is."

He said as he looked at his large plate of food. Then again the man was 7 feet tall, had two stomachs as well as was a walking flesh tank. He looked over at the girl and cracked a smile.

"I have been so used to having it up that it was second nature. I hope that you would forgive that of an old Warrior."

Now Aurum was sitting next to her. Super. As lonely as Chloe felt today, she could think of a few people she would rather be sitting with. They all had the advantage of not making her instinctively fear for her safety, and she called these people ‘everyone who isn’t this guy.’ She didn’t get up to leave, though. Even if she did have a real reason to feel this way, she wouldn’t want to make him mad.

Aurum said that his power affected demons. It took her two full seconds to realize the implications of that, at which point she nearly choked on her food.

“I’m… uh, I’m not a demon,” she told him. “Demons don’t exist in the world I came from. Mutated humans do, and I’m pretty sure I’m just one of those.” Even Chloe was starting to have trouble believing this, now. No matter how many times she said it, she knew how implausible it all was. “So, I can forgive you, but…” she didn’t know where that sentence was going. What else could have caused her pain?

Chloe trailed off and stared at her food, deep in thought.

"There may be more to you than meets they eye."

Aurum's power only affected demons, they were just seen as a weapon against humanity in his eye, thought someone at this school had helped him see some of the error in his ways against the innocent. Some demons should get Retribution. Others. Mercy. A select few. Compassion.

He said slowly eating his food. He was surprised on how it tasted. He was used to eating the same rations over and over that this real food thing was a great experience as his large plate of food was just slowly being eradicated.

"My name is Ju-... Aurum Hyperion."

He said trying to start a new conversation.

Well, that was cryptic. More to her than meets the eye? Wouldn’t that be true about everyone? Maybe he was saying that she was really a demon. Or maybe his weird-ass magic eye could tell that she had a penis. Chloe really hoped it wasn’t that last one.

“Nice to meet you, Ju-Aurum. I’m Chloe Black.” She knew that wasn’t his name, but it amused her to pretend otherwise.

It just occurred to her that Aurum probably knew a lot about demons. He had a power that he knew was only supposed to work on demons, after all “So… Aurum. I don’t actually know anything about demons. But everyone seems to think I am one, and I guess they might be right? Even though nobody seems to know anything about demons, not even the other demon kids I’ve met. So, what are demons like?”
