Led through the mist of the milk light of moon, all that is lost is revealed...

Monotony was the enemy of the young adult, and this proved true with the pair of young ladies strolling through a place where they certainly shouldn’t be. A few nights prior to this one, the news channel was covering a story about the individuals who once roamed this island- pirates. Some came here to retire, and lavish in the wealth and partners they’ve come to accumulate. One of the cases focused on was the tale of a young captain and his aristocratic bride, who had fled their homeland to pursue both love and gold. They’d built an old mansion upon the muggy swamps located in now what’s known as the forbidden forest. But two decades later, after a grand ball inviting many other wealthy inhabitants in, the couple as well as the rest of the party had vanished without a trace. Some have rumored that this couple too had held powers that would come commonplace to the island, but that could just be a tall tale. All that is known it that the mansion, intact yet dilapidated, still stands in the middle of the dark swamp, waiting to be rediscovered…

So of course, that inspired people like Loralei and Pollyanna to wander around the forbidden forest in hunt for such a place.

"Goddamit, it feels like we’ve been walking around in circles. We better find this place before this swamp gives me trench foot." Loralei muttered a bit impatiently, the sentiment impossible given that her combat boots were resistant to the elements. Still, the wandering had begun to strike a nerve, unlike Pollyanna, who was just along for the ride.
"It’s not all that bad! I found a frog!" Polly chirped, smiling down at the chubby amphibian before it leaped into the greenish water. Her mood was possibly lightened by it being about 10 at night, with the full moon and stars above to guide them. "Besides.. Can’t you use magic? You could probably poof us up to-"

"What do I look like? A quitter?" Lori cut her off with a wave of her hand. "There’s no fun in cutting corners unless it’s vital. I want to find this place fair and square. That’s what we agreed to, remember?"

"Oh. Right." Polly recalled as the flame in the lantern in her hand wavered in the wind. She would have shifted already if that were the case. "If anything this should be a fun little exploration! You could use a girl’s night out. And besides… Wait a minute. I smell something." Polly took splashing strides to stand ahead of Lori. Her keen sense of smell causing her nose to tip upwards as she sensed the air. "I smell... Old paint. And rotting wood. We must be close!" She grabbed the genie’s hand and proceeded to sprint ahead, despite the protests of her magical friend. Minutes of splish sploshing later, the girls found themselves in front of an elaborate, rusted gate.

"This must be it!" Lori whispered with an excited edge to her tone. But while She was jingling the rusted padlock and chain, Polly was hunched over looking in the distance. "Hey, help me up and I’ll help you. Bend over."

Polly just whimpered. "S-something big is coming..."

Lori rolled her eyes. "Probably just another swamp rat. Whack it with a stick if it comes too close or something."

But what was really coming was much bigger. While the girls assumed they were alone in this expedition, that was son to be proved untrue…

((Sorry for the long intro! This thread is open and intended to be rapidfire. Feel free to jump into the exploration party!))

Vincenzo wasn't a denizen of the Forbidden Forest, but he was definitely a fan. He felt right at home at the dark swamps. The constant threat of death and sinking anxious feeling reminded him of his father. Good times.

These days, he'd taken to exploring the forest more often due to his thesis research. Vincenzo frequently collected forest leeches because of their as-of-yet undiscovered magical properties. He was making great strides in the field of magiscience. It was just unfortunate that his research methods would be deemed "unethical" by most. A bunch of cowards, they were.

With a container full of leeches, Vincenzo quietly made his way out of the forest... only to see figures of two women in the distance. Two women alone in The Forbidden Forest? Goodness gracious, it was so rare that he'd be offered some fun this easily! With a gas mask hiding his face and intimidating boots, they were in the perfect set up, with the girls being the hapless damsels and Vincenzo placed in the role of the mysterious masked killer. He slipped into a nearby rift and ended up somewhere inside the mansion, second floor. He crept around, quiet as a mouse, watching the two in the dark and wondering what they'll do.

Wess liked the mansion because it had always been a good hunting ground. People liked going there at night. He might have even made it his official den, if it weren't so likely that someone would stumble upon it int he day and catch him at rest. This was good enough.

Wesely was more curious than he was hungry tonight, so he kept his distance. He had been watching a man, but the pretty boy disappeared, and Wess easily turned his attention to the two girls at the gate. He was far enough away that those without night vision couldn't see him, but Wess saw fine in the night, and he could see the girls in detail.

He sucked in a breath, the action making a long Coke-bottle whistle break the eerie silence of the night. When he breathed out again, he let out a long, shriek. Similar to a woman being murdered. Generally, this was his hunting call, tonight, it served as his warning for them to leave. He didn't want them here, tempting him.

Lexi found herself waking up in the forbidden forest. After escaping from her father for a few days on her own to grow up. She found herself close to a manor. A very... Old looking one. She heard a shriek that chilled her body to the bones and made hair stand up on ends.

She was scared to say the least. She climbed over a wall rather speedily and made her way to a broken window. Her once beautiful sky blue dress was now tattered and worn. With dirt covering it she gulped as she climbed into a window and....

cut her leg. A bit of blood was left on the window as she blinked at her new cut and started to freak out. Her ears picked up footsteps with in the confines of the manor. She found a corner to move into to lick her wounds so to speak. Taking some of her dress to bandage the wound. She sighed as she sat in the corner while she held her knees up to her chest and hugged herself tightly.

She was shaking mildly. She was terrified already and wanted to go home..

but where was home?

Despite the hold up, Loralei convinced Pollyanna to hoist her over the fence, sitting on the top to pull up her companion. Being small and nimble, that wasn't a problem. Polly on the other hand struggled, but mostly m from an increasing unnerving feeling. Being part animal, she was sensitive to that sort of thing, and knew trouble was brewing. "Alright, grab my hands. I'll pull you-"

Suddenly, an ear piercing scream broke the night. Loralei looked up in confusion, while Polly looked in fear. "L-Lori, what was that?" She backed away from the fence a bit. "I'm beginning to think that maybe this isn't a good idea..." As much as she wanted to explore, would it be worth coming face to face to whatever caused that awful noise?

"Well if you want to stay out here and wait for me you can. But..." Her voice was cut off as Polly grasped her hands and quickly hoisted herself up. Causing the girls to tumble behind the fence on solid ground. Dazed a bit, Lori shook her head, before standing to remove leaves from her hair.

"Yeah, that's what I thought." She chuckled, before giving Polly a reassuring pat on her back. "Now let's go. This is gonna get interesting." With that, the pair made themselves through the overgrown courtyard to the front door. Almost immediately, Lori raised her leg to send a powerful kick to knock down the old entrance. Ready to go on, into the unknown...

From the looks of things, there were at least three civilians inside The Haunted Mansion and not much else. He so wished whoever caused that noise would come out and play. Vincenzo always was a sucker for parties.

For the time being, he stalked the two girls from the banister, chest swimming in delight as he thought of the perfect way to screw with them. After a moment's deliberation, he pulled out two smoke bombs from his research materials. He threw them on the floor behind the two girls, and without a moment's delay, hid behind a wall in the second floor. The smoke bombs exploded just in time, filling the entrance downstairs with a thick, white smoke that obscured figures.

Wess squinted as the pair of girls went into the house anyway. Seriously? He huffed and considered leaving, getting far away before he got too hungry, but then he smelled blood and, all of his self-possession was stuffed away somewhere human. A place so cold and dark, Wess often forgot it was a part of him at all.

He crept to the house, to the window where the small bit of blood was to lick it from the window seal. Just as Wess' tongue touched the blood, smoke shot out from the inside of the building, and he jerked in surprise before crawling through, breath creating a soft, constant hiss, like a loose steam pipe.

He was lucky to know the house well enough and have good enough night vision that he could navigate around low to the ground and (hopefully) out of sight. The smoke helped.

As she saw something hit the ground Lexi.. Panicked. hard. She found an old staircase as the smoke filled the room. Runing for the direction but she was too late. Her heart rate was going through the roof as she tripped. Getting her foot caught in a portion of the floor. Wincing for a moment and letting out a hiss she tried to stand up. Only to find..

She sprained her ankle. Gulping for a moment she tried to stand. Balancing on one foot as she starting to cough. Hobbling up the stairs as best she could. Her clothes tattered and some of it cut. She eventually made it up the stairs and out of the smoke. Panting a moment.

When she got to a the second floor she tried her best not to cry. Taking a deep breath as she attempted to make it to the closest door. She heard a noise and looked behind her...

To see nothing. She shook her head for a moment. She could... hear things. She could hear breathing but with her current state it felt like the breathing was all around her. IT wasn't just hers. She hear more than one person. She didn't know what was going on. She went to look at her arm for help....

She had dropped her arm brace downstairs.

It was a silver bracelet with her name etched onto it. With a beautiful ruby on it. That was magical and helped control her powers. Though..

With out it she was a ticking timebomb of summoning. Any more... She was unstable to say the least. She opened a door and stumbled into a study. Landing on her face on the floor as she panted heavily. Only getting the musty air from the old building.

This wasn't what she had in mind.

"M-Momma... P-P-pappa help.." She spoke lightly in the room before trying to get up. only to have her body give up for a few moments.

The air was still.

The lantern illuminated the rotten foyer of the decrepit mansion. Lori lifted it up higher to make a mental note where everything was. There were two grand staircases, and rococo-era artwork lined the walls in all their chipped oil painted glory. Shame, this place must have been beautiful in its glory days. This was just further proof that when humankind was gone, nature would eventually claim what was rightfully hers.
’Fancy..." Lori muttered to herself, as she looked around. "Looks like they spared no expenses when the owners lived here. Too bad all that money would end up making this place be no more than water-logged firewood."

While Loralei was casually looking around, Pollyanna was growing more uncomfortable by the minute. The normally happy young woman was cautiously frightened, as she sensed evil lurking about from every corner. "Um… Lor…? Not to be a Debbie Downer or anything but um… I’m getting super bad vibes from this place." She stuttered out. "I don’t think we’re alone. And whoever is here reeeeeally doesn’t want us to be..."

Instead of replying snappily like she normally would with buzzkills, Lori took what she said with a bit of seriousness. "I’m getting a bit of a hunch too. But we should be okay. It’s probably just-" Plink! Something hit the floor. Then the sound turned into a roll. "What the..." Something touched her foot. She looked down. Oh shit.

"Polly look out-!"

Smoke filled the room. The girls quickly clung together, and Lori on instinct created a magic aqua-tinted bubble around them. But since the magic was reactive and not thought out, it had only lasted for a few seconds while the bulk of the smoke settled. Leaving it to pop and have the girls go into a coughing fit.

This lasted for a few seconds, while the fog partially settled. Both girls moved to cover their nose and mouth with their shirts, while each of them planned a different follow-up. Pollyanna crawled under the smoke to safety, while Lori went to the nearest bannister. Only to kick it in, and grab a splintered-off, sharp piece to wield as a weapon.
"Who the hell was that? Come on out you lil shit!" Loralei roared into the darkness, her lantern now on the floor with the light extinguished. She was ready to fight off the rude entity that tried to suffocate the duo. No one would mess with her or her friend like that.

Meanwhile, Pollyanna had crawled to what she assumed was safety, and was doing fine without the aid of light. While she tried to regather herself, she heard a soft plea, a whine for someone’s parents. Instantly, Pollyanna felt blind remorse. Was this another trap? Who cares. Someone needed help!

"Hello? W-who’s there? I won’t hurt you, whoever you are! Please come out!"

Oh, the overblown reactions! Vincenzo had to cover his mouth to muffle his giggling. He watched the little girl enter the study, and the two girls scream downstairs. Fun, fun! He closed his fist, and with a dramatic telekinetic burst, the door was shut and locked. They weren't trapped, no, but... Vincenzo squeezed his throat, imitating the girl's voice as much as he can, which was fairly impressive, "P-please help, I'm trapped, I'm so scared! Mommy!"

To lead them to the study, he knocked a book out of the wall down to the floor with TK, the source of the sound obvious.

Such nice ladies. Maybe they'll take the time to go inside the study and help her. When they get inside, he'd...

Now, a proper lady doesn't leave the house without good old knock-out gas. He took the can out, shaking, ready to throw it inside and lock the room as soon as the girls join the kid. Vincenzo made himself invisible, one of the spells he absorbed a while back. He watched them from the railing, quiet as a mouse but practically vibrating in excitement.
