Victoria was sore, and tired, and hungry. She had sat here in this cage with nothing to keep her company but him. She still could barely process how things had gotten to this point. Sure things had been going south with derek, she loved him and he loved her, but she wanted him to have better than her. Maybe she pushed him too far, but really it could be a million things.
At first she had protested by not eating, then he had force fed her, and even more, eerily mentioned there was more than one way to keep a person alive when they didn't eat. Then she refused to look at or talk to him. He would come in and tell her about his day, what he had done at school, what he'd eaten for lunch. It was almost as if he seriously thought that this was a normal thing that someone should do. He even made a point of sleeping on the floor next to her in the cage, stating that as long as she was in there he wouldn't sleep on the bed. Then he stuffed her cage full of soft plush toys which really through her for a loop. She wasn't sure if this was his form of love, if he just felt guilty, or if he was a cruel mastermind, but she just knew she had to escape.
She was in what was, essentially, a cage for a large dog. The cage was only kept solid by the mat underneath and so, if she could lift the cage up and slide the mat out! Of course the idea was much easier than the actual execution. The cage was heavy and meant to contain a creature much stronger than she. But she was determined and refused to give up and despite how her arms screamed she managed to life the cage just enough to push the mat out from the bottom, leaving her with just the cage and the floor. But she was a thin and agile girl, and wriggiling her way out was far less difficult than lifting the cage itself.
Now free she wasted no time in escaping. She didn't grab any clothes or things she owned, she didn't waste any time to write a note, not even one that told him to go eff himself, she ust made a break for the door, fully intending to beat it down with her body if necessary. Yet when she grabbed the door knob, it turned, and she laughed hysterically, in a way eerily reminiscent of a mad woman. That idiot had left it unlocked, she was free. Without wasting another moment she threw open the door and bolted down the street like a bat out of hell, not bothering to pay attention to where she was going.
