The Escaping Song

It was a quiet, cool day. In the early morning air, few birds were out, and their songs held on the humid air. The stark smell of hay and the earthy smell of horses perfumed the surrounding area. The lazy clouds were hanging low, creating an overcast, foggy setting.

As Beatrice made her way to the stables, she hummed quietly to keep herself company. The posh princess wasn't much of a fan of getting up this morning, but ever since she was little, she had always wanted to ride a pony. Well, now she kinda wanted to ride a horse. Ponies left her dreams on a dark and stormy night involving needles.

The young woman winces at the sad memory. It was like pouring salt onto a fresh paper cut: stingy and tender. She rubs her lower back with a sad movement. She shakes her head and looks down at herself. Her rich background allowed her to have almost anything she wanted, so today she was dressed like an old time horse rider. Thigh high boots, vest, hat, and everything.

She even let her light chocolate hang curled around her face, framing it beneath the plaid hat. She enters the stable, looking around for a horse and someone to help her get it ready.

Oh, how he loathed to awake early in the morning! Though school forced him to do this every day, he had not been expecting his roommates to be so noisy today. Really, he had to take care of that situation - he was far too good to have to deal with roommates, only commoners should have to endure such awful experiences! Shiloh was far different from them in status, and he deserved his beauty rest. A Shiloh without his beauty rest was a terrifying thing.

Anyone who knew Shiloh would have understood just why it was so frightening. Normally, Shiloh strayed as far away from animals as he possibly could. House pets, such as cats, were all right in his book - but never in his right mind would he have ever willingly gone to a stable. It was dirty there, the stench of the animals permanently stained the air, and overall was just a filthy place that a prince should never have to witness.

But that was exactly where he was headed, still wearing his furry slippers, silk pajama pants and an expensive long-sleeved shirt. His blonde hair was a tangled mess, and he clearly had yet to have his morning coffee. The coffee probably would have saved him from the horrible situation he was about to walk in on, but sadly Shiloh had forsaken its wonders on this morning.

He walked through the stable doors not long after Beatrice, and as soon as he was through the threshold, he looked around, as if finally waking up. A blank expression came to his face and he gasped upon seeing the young woman before him.

“Young maiden, wait!” he called, loud enough for her hear him but not loud enough to spook the animals. He sprinted to her, arms falling about her shoulders in an overly-dramatic manner. “A young miss as lovely as yourself should not be surrounded by such monstrous beasts! Please, come with me — I cannot allow such beauty to be tarnished by these creatures...”

Regardless of time of day, Shiloh was always a charmer.

Beatrice wrinkles her nose. This is supposed to be one of those touching movie scenes.. What -is- that god-awful- smell?! She coughs, rising a hand to politely cover her nose. She starts to back away, when her fine cat ears hear a voice. Maiden? Beauty? Tarnished? She smirks, turning to loop her arm through the man's, noting he was still is his bedclothes and his hair was.. a nightmare.

She puts on a scared face. "Oh, thank you so much, I came out here, but I got really scared.." She puts a hint of innocence in her voice. Easy. As. Pie. "Thank you, I was afraid one of them would break loose and charge." She presses close to him. Let's see how he liked to be charmed.

She looks up at him with wide eyes. "Can you take me back to the academy..? I don't want to go alone." She 'shyly' looks down, hair falling to hide her victorious grin. She played this off quite nicely. As soon as they were back in the academy-- Bam! Beatrice would slam him with her richness and popularity. He would be blown away. And, hopefully, completely smitten. Like a lost puppy.

She liked it that way.

... Did it get much easier than this? The young lady turned around in Shiloh’s arms, almost causing the muscles in his lips to smirk as a reflex. He managed to subdue it, however, and instead offered the other teen a soft, warm smile. Lifting a hand from her shoulder, Shiloh moved a few stray locks of hair from out of her face, his touch tender against her skin.

“You have no more reason to fear, mon cher,” he almost purred, releasing her from his gentle hold and taking a few steps back. Turning his back to her, Shiloh proffered his arm, expecting that she would accept the invitation. “Come now, m’lady, I shall escort you back to the school and keep you safe from this treacherisophical beasts!” Of course, he hadn’t realized the word he had used was not, in any way, a word - but Shiloh had difficulty with ‘big words’.

Once she had taken his arm, Shiloh exited the stable at a leisurely pace. “And what does a beautiful young woman like you call herself, hmmm?” he inquired. “I’m Shiloh Lancaster, but you may call me Shi, if you please, my dear.”

Beatrice smiled sweetly. She wondered if the same thoughts were running through this boy's head. A faint blush covers her cheeks, as if she willed it there. Which, of course, she had. Over the years, controlling facial expression had become easier.

She took his arm, clinging to it tightly, as if she were actually scared. Which, of course, she wasn't. The only thing she was scared of was that horrific smell. Just thinking about her made her skin pale and her shoulders hunch. They straighten quickly though.

She was going to wait to tell her name till they were at the Academy, for such a gentleman was surely to know of the most wealthy company in America. She smiles. "Shi.. I like that name." she purrs, giving his arm a little squeeze.
