"That waitress," Vladimir said, "Is just pretty eye candy hired to entice mostly male customers like myself into buying another drink or two," Vladimir explained as his gaze flicker back to the girl for a brief moment just as the young woman laughed and lightly touched a customer on the shoulder, flirting with him in a not so subtle manner.

"And no, I am off because the moon is changing to full, and I can feel it in my bones," he said as he looked at Konpeito solemnly. "It makes me slightly irritable, and not the greatest of company to be around at times," he admitted somewhat apologetically.

Oh, so he was just captivated by the flirty waitress. Kon was thankful she made no moves towards him. He worried his friendliness would come off as flirting and he would have to bluntly say he's not interested in women so no mixed messages would continue.

"But I thought you were..." Kon trailed off. He got mixed messages from Vladimir. He was certain he was human, but his first name gave off a vampiric vibe, while his last name had, well, Wolf. It made his job a little funny. "Never mind. While I don't have experience with changing during the full moon, I can definitely understand feeling irritable under certain circumstances. You know how my diet is. It's even affecting me now. So I can say for certain that I think you've been great company and a helpful distraction so far."

"Ah, yes," Vladimir said as his slate blue-grey gaze flickered over Kon with heightened interest, remembering now his unusual dietary needs. It was a curious case indeed. Almost as curious as his own if he were honest.

"How is that going?" he asked as he took a sip of his whiskey, now genuinely invested in the conversation. He knew what dark urges were like, and he guessed that on some level, Kon must go through similar moments.

Konpeitō took a sip from his cider with a thoughtful expression. "It's been... going. It's one thing for others to eat people. It's another when you have to do it." As he let out a sigh, some of his body's colors left as well, leaving him slightly grey. "It's been difficult making a list of what creatures no longer give me what I need. Having to buy expensive meats and figure out how to cook with them has also been a struggle. The Sanguine Society has helped a lot, but they can only provide so much." Then his tusks grew as fur began to cover more of his body.

"I never fully asked," Vladimir began after Kon mentioned the slight difficulties he was encountering. "I know that you mentioned needing DNA, but does it need to be only mammalian?" he asked as the researcher in him started to be more and more interested in truly understanding the full scope of what Kon was dealing with.

Kon shook his head. '"No, act—" Were his tusks bigger? Now that he thought about it, he was furrier too. He immediately shortened his tusks and removed the extra fur on them.

After giving his tusks a few agitated licks, he continued. "No, actually. Any type of DNA works. This reminds me of a funny story. When I first learned about my species-shifting, I realized eating the DNA of a plant turned me into that plant. I'm happy I'm not as much of a mess as I was back then." He chuckled bitterly.

"But back to the point, I simply prefer meat because of what I've always been: a cat. And now that I'm more of a predator, biting into meat feels much more satisfying than eating a salad."

A small smile crossed Vladimir's lips when Kon noticed the change in his tusk size and in his fur length. The change was almost imperceptible to most, but to Vlad, it was somewhat amusing nonetheless.

"How about insects or sea creatures?" he asked. "Have you tried consuming any?"

"Insects?" His pupils dilated. He never thought about that before. How embarrassing. Now that the thought was in his head, he couldn't stop thinking about eating all sorts of insects. "No, I didn't think about that. But sea creatures... yes, a few. I'm Japanese, of course I have," he said with a laugh. "I've even eaten mermaid meat. Sea creatures are the go-to for my meals. They're very affordable."

"Now, you can spend your money on other things if you want," Vladimir pointed out as he turned his drink a quarter fraction. "Since insects are vastly abundant and most are not too hard to find if you know where to look," he observed, finally feeling some of the twitchy edginess of the bloodthirst slowly dissipating as he focused his attention on Kon.

Kon's ears perked up and the tip of his tail swayed off to his side. "That's a wonderful idea! This is why I love talking to people. I always get new ideas to work on," he mused happily. Any way for Kon to cut costs was a surefire way to happiness.

"Oh, here I am, having you give me advice like you're at work. Not that I mind. The advice you've given me has always been great. I just wouldn't want to cause you any more stress."
