Rory had needed to talk to Officer Genovese sing before her talk with Jude. Then she'd promised her best friend she'd do it after their talk, but she'd been busy worrying about everyone. So, she was finally getting around to that promise. Not a home though, she was sick of sitting around the house talking to people.

Instead, Rory invited Officer Genovese out on a walk after he was done with work. She might have tried to catch him on a lunch break, but she didn't know his schedule well enough for that and she didn't know how much she needed to say or how long it would take to say it all.

Angelo wasn't quite working. Not really. He had time off after the shooting, a mandatory sit on the sidelines while we sort this fucking mess out. But the nature of that sidelines sitting was that they kept calling him in. More interviews. More testimony. More oaths and being sworn to secrecy.

Turns out it was more than just Nick.

He was tired by the time he made it over to where Rory was waiting, but he was also in his civilian clothes. Nice civilian clothes, but civilian clothes. The kind you might wear to court to watch, but not the kind you'd wear if you were being charged.

"I have time to kill," he called. "You got time off from school?"

"Yeah," she told him and stifled the urge to point out that she was not a skipper. Rory had tried never to skip in her life. That sort of went to shit when she became a hero.

He liked tired. Rory hesitated, looking between the bench and a small hiking path. Was he sure he could handle a walk looking that tired?

"We don't have to walk if you're tired."

"It's fine," Angelo said, waving off her concern. "I can walk. Just work stuff. I've got a pretty great set of legs on me. I can outrun most people, and I can sure as hell out walk them."

He gestured for her to start, and then got walking himself, heading down the path.

"So, what'd you want to talk about?"

"Uh, a few things maybe. I wanted to ask if I could request a nullification bracelet to start, one with some kind of locking mechanic with a key or something?"

God it felt weird to say, it was probably going to be weirder to explain.

A nullification bracelet? She'd expected the weird look, and that was what she got, with Angelo looking at her and raising an eyebrow.

"...Any reason?"

"I think I could do more with one than without, you know? I feel.... restricted and besides, one would keep me honest."

She grinned at him somewhat nervously.

Restricted. By her cool superpowers that most people would die for. Angelo gave her a scrutinizing look, and then shrugged.

"It's not too hard to get one, but getting one that locks is... risky. I'm not sure I could swing it without a really solid reason, especially since you have regeneration powers. For obvious reasons, the island isn't big on turning those off."

"Regeneration makes me stupid," Rory told Angelo. "I once broke my bones just to see if I could. It still hurts, but I do it because I know I don't have to be careful." Which wasn't something Rory had ever had to say before.

"Look, I'll be honest because you don't know me well, but I'm going to find a way to turn them off one way or another and this is just the safest method."

Angelo grimaced.

"I'd probably have to ask. Submit paperwork or something. You have to show ID and basically get informally registered to get a nullification bracelet, which is easy enough. The locking is the hard part, because what if something happens to you? What if you break your arm, and you don't have the key on you?"
