It bad luck Brynjar happened to be looking forward just when he should've been observing the ground before them or Noel. He noticed too late that Noel tripped and didn't have enough time to catch the man. Brynjar was fast but his body was built for more brawn than speed and thus he was slow at reacting to sudden movements.
Brynjar kneeled beside Noel with speed that seemed unnatural to a man his size. His eyes had the expression of worry and spight panic, but he forced his face to have a calm expression. His tone as he spoke was also steady, but had an undertone of concern and guilt.
"Please do not move your foot too quickly, it might make it worse."
With steady hands Brynjar grabbed the tree root. It war firm and very much stuck to the ground tight. But Brynjar lifted it with ease, not completely out of the ground but enough so Noel could pull his foot free without forcing it.

Brynjar swung his backpack off his back and pulled out a first aid kit with all the tools to handle situations like this and many others.
"Do you have a regeneration ability, or should I apply first aid?"
Brynjar was serious and seemed like a different man from the one mere moments ago. If Noel would allow him Brynjar would analuze the injury and apply proper first aid with gentle but knowing hands.
"Forgive me, I should've paid more attention. Should we...call it a day?"

Noel looked very gratefully at Brynjar when he lifted up the old and worn tree root so Noel could slide his foot back enough that he could get it untangled from the root. As he slid it back, Noel realized that he must have really hurt himself as it ached and was extremely painful.

"I don't have regeneration magic..." Noel admitted with a frown, "I know that's silly for a god not to have them," he said as he looked at Brynjar feeling rather foolish, and somewhat embarrassed too. He really should have gone out and bought proper hiking shoes and clothes too.

"I hate to call it a day, we just started but I don't think I can walk on my foot," Noel said as he tried to get up and sat back down suddenly when he felt a searing pain in his foot.

When Noel tried to get up Brynjar gently pushed him back down, and he felt Noel's pain inside himself like it was his own. Brynjar pulled a cool pad from his backpack and use some of the bandage to attach it to Noel's ankle. It needed to be cooled and compressed, which Brynjar had already taken care of.
"It is not...silly in the slightest, if your mission as a god is to...spread joy. You wouldn't need regeneration, you...always have people by your side."
Brynjar's eyes were smiling as he looked at Noel briefly, and the embarrassment came seconds after. Brynjar's ears were a bit flushed as he put the first aid supplies back in his backpack.
"It would be wisest to turn back, your ankle...could get worse. Here."
Brynjar turned so his back was towards Noel, as close as possible so it would be easier for Noel to climb on.
"Do you think...you can climb on my back?"

Noel was grateful for Brynjar's words- Although he did feel very silly at the moment. He knew that Brynjar was right about the god part, but Noel still felt a little frustrated that he now must rely on his friend to carry him back to town.

Lifting himself up off the ground, careful not to put any weight on his leg, foot, Noel hobbled the few inches over to Brynjar and placed his arms around the man's neck, noticing at the same time just how muscular and strong, hard, Brynjar was.

"A-are you sure about this?" Noel stammered questioningly, not quite sure about this, afraid that he'd actually hurt him somehow if he placed his full weight on him. Noel wasn't that tiny of a man, though Brynjar was definitely taller and stronger than him.

Brynjar took a deep breath when he felt Noel wrap his arms around his neck, he had not thought how close they would be once the man was on his back. Brynjar had carried countless people in his back but carrying Noel was a whole different issue. Brynjar had not felt the things he felt with Noel with his comrades or anyone else he had carried. But it was too late now, and besides, Brynjar couldn't just leave Noel unable to walk.

Noel hesitated, asking Brynjar if he was sure, and before Brynjar gave himself the chance to hesitate as well he scooped Noel up carefully. The man had weight to him, not anything that hindered Brynjar since the polar bear could lift several hundreds of kilos. But the weight felt...nice. Brynjar was happy he could carry Noel, litetally or figuratively, and he sent a small shy smile over his shoulder to Noel.
"I'm...sure. Um, which way did we...come from? I'm afraid I was...distracted."
Brynjar admitted, and looked away slightly embarrassed. Noel had taken almost all his attention during this trip, so he had not looked at the path.

Before Noel could protest or say anything more, he felt Brynjar hoist him onto his back. Putting his arms securely around Brynjar's neck, Noel noticed how soft his hair was and how nice he smelled, like cold fresh snow mixed with a woodsy scent, a pure scent. A scent Noel found very attractive, and he wondered if it was something, a cologne, Brynjar was wearing, him or a mix of both.

Distracted by his thoughts, Noel realised Brynjar was talking to him, his deep voice resonating through his body, make Noel very aware again how close they were. "Uhmm, I believe that, maybe, we came from that direction," he said softly touching Brynjar's shoulder to let him know it was back the other way.

As Noel spoke Brynjar could feel his voice right next to his ear, and he shuddered slightly at the sensation. His ears blushed and with a small nod Brynjar headed towards the direction Noel had pointed him to. Brynjar was very aware of the man's presence on his back, he could feel his warmth and smell his scent very close to him. It was all almost too overwhelming. Brynjar looked firmly forward and tried to concentrate on the path.

The forest surrounding them was silent as the two made their way through it. But it was silent in the way that only nature could be. Brynjar could only hear the wind in the trees and bird song and small animals moving in the bushes. And of course Noel's heartbeat and breathing. Those were really the only sounds Brynjar cared about in that moment.
Suddenly the wind brought with it a familiar scent, the scent of ocean, and Brynjar looked towards a small opening in the trees some ways off the path. He could see a reflection of sunlight bouncing off water just beyond the trunks. Like hypnotized Brynjar stepped off the path and made his way towards and past the trees and onto the shoreline. Brynjar blinked a bit at the brightness but when his eyes adjusted Brynjar could see a small cliff before them, that hung above the sea.

Resting comfortably against Brynjar's back as he carried Noel through the woods back to town, Noel suddenly felt a small gust of wind, a cool breeze, full of freshness as it broke through the opening in the woods.

Not saying anything when Brynjar suddenly veered off, Noel looked down at the man who was carrying him and decided to trust he knew where he was going. After a few minutes, Noel realised that they were headed towards the cliffs he had been talking about.

Brynjar had been in a kind of daze, but once he took in the view from the cliff he realized he was still carrying Noel. The wind was a bit chilly, and Brynjar adjusted his position a bit so his body covered Noel's from the wind.
"Forgive me, I shouldn't have steered off the path. We should..go back."
Brynjar said with an apologetic tone and started turning back. He glanced at the cliff, at least now he knew the location and could come here later on.

Brynjar dodged back in the trees and found the path back to the town again. He walked for a moment in silence before clearing his throat slightly.
"I'm...sorry we had to cut this walk short. I was...enjoying quite a lot, for how long it lasted."

"Me too, I feel bad that I tripped and hurt my foot, and that you have had to carry me back like this instead of enjoying that amazing view for a while longer," Noel sighed, feeling foolish and just bad that he had ruined Brynjar's day out because he had been so stuck in his old ways. If only Noel had gone out and bought proper footwear, a pair of hiking boots or something. None of this would have happened.

"Forgive me, Brynjar... "Noel said, feeling the need to apologize again, "maybe we can try again in a few weeks when my foot is better? I'd really like to make it up to you somehow." he confessed.
