"You never know. There might be one available online," Kalvin added. His eyebrows furrowed as they reached the store. He wondered about online stores. "Come to think of it, is there a shop that sells online in Manta Carlos? Like an Amazon but just for the island? I've never thought to check if we have one since almost everything I need is available in the stores."

He gave a short chuckle as they got in line. "Oh, no. I know. I guess I just wanted to get Rafael's coffee today," he said. He glanced at the menu board. He already knew which coffee Rafael liked. Still, Kalvin had to wonder if there was something else his boss preferred. "Hey, Miss Zora, does Rafael have a sort of coffee choice he reserves for some days only? You know, like self-indulgent cups reserved for special days and random cravings?"

"I guess we could always just order one online if we can't find one here," Zora conceded as they started off towards the bakery. "It will take a little bit longer since it needs to be brought in through one of the portals though," she explained as she answered Kalvin's question about buying online, explaining that they didn't have an island type Amazon, but they could order items from the outside world online. They just needed to go through a portal in Finland set up for such a purpose.

As they contemplated the wall menu of coffees, Zora smiled at Kalvin's question."Grandfather does, in fact, have a coffee he treats himself too once in a while," Zora said as she considered getting a special coffee too.

"He likes mocha cinnamon lattes," she told Kalvin. "Or just mocha lattes... he's a big fan of chocolate and coffee. "

Kalvin nodded. "Looks like everyone will have to bear having to get coffee from outside. I can't even imagine what it'll be like to go to the breakroom and not leave without a cup of coffee in hand," he joked lightly. "And judging with how busy everybody's been, I think it's safe to say we can expect a lot of shortened tempers."

He smiled when Zora shared Rafael's indulgence coffee. He wouldn't have pegged Rafael to be a cinnamon latte man. He ordered the drink for Rafael and told Zora about which drink he wanted, which was the Bearclaw's house blend. After they got their orders, Kalvin led their way to a booth to wait. The place wasn't packed yet, thankfully.

"I hope you don't mind, Miss Zora, but can I ask you a question?" he began. "I've been wondering about your abilities. All I know is that you and Rafael belong to a line of immortals."

"Urg... We most certainly don't want that. I think I am going to have to set up a coffee delivery for the office until we can get everything sorted," Zoraida stated with a grin as she put in her order for a large house blend coffee and a dozen pastries and then accompanied Kalvin to a table to wait.

"Heavens, no... " Zora laughed and waved away Kalvin's misgivings. "You aren't offending me at all. I admit I don't really advertise my powers or what I can do... mainly because I can't use them at work," she confessed.

"Rafael's magic is much more general, and much more powerful, than mine. He can not only turn on the lights from across the room, or make a graph appear right before your eyes, but he also can do big magic like remove curses," she explained.

"Myself, well, I'm a telekinetic water elemental and I can mentally bring you ice cubes for your drink," she joked.

"Telekinetic water elemental," Kalvin repeated in awed breath. "I'm sure you can do amazing things with that other than summon ice cubes. And... Rafael can remove curses? Wow. I heard he was powerful but I didn't expect that. Also, I understand why you wouldn't talk about your abilities as often. Even mine doesn't have much to do with the work I do."

He looked around at the cafe, thinking about the things he learned today. He was really impressed. "What's it like to be immortal?" he asked, shifting his gaze to Zoraida.

Zora just smiled, actually very pleased at Kalvin's words. She had not had too many people admire her for her magic abilities, and she had to admit it was nice... better than being admired for her wealth or her business acumen.

"That's a tricky one since I am not really that old yet," she confided as she thought about Kal's question. "However, I think most immortals fear loneliness, that everyone that we come to love will eventually get old and die...I know that quite often it terrifies me to think I will outlive a lot of people around me... " she confessed as she stared at the barista making their coffee order.

"I guess Hollywood and the fiction books weren't too far-off with that assumption," Kalvin commented. Loneliness. It seemed like such a small thing, almost not a fear worthy of anybody's time--from the point of view of a mortal, that is. And yet, Kalvin can sympathize with Zoraida.

"What do you do to get away from that fear?" he asked curiously. Pop media often referenced bitterness and the want to simply destroy everything else. Sitting in front of an actual immortal who had more experience than writers of fiction made him want to know about what they did to face that issue. "And what about the good things? What do you like about being immortal?"

"I'm not sure you ever get away from it when those around you are mortal," she confessed. "Though I guess the best way to hold off the fear is to realise how precious each person is in your life, and hang on to them the best you can," she said as an image of Broen, her ex who had killed himself, came to mind and made her frown slightly as the dull ache of his loss filled her with sadness.

"The good? Well, for one we never get old. I will stay this beautiful forever," Zora grinned as she deliberately went to the superficial in an attempt to shake off the feeling of sadness and loss.

"And we get to experience life to the fullest, see how the world changes around us. We also get to meet others like ourselves eventually," she admitted as she thought of her best friend, Natasha, who was a vampire from Catherine the Great's time period.

Kalvin kept quiet when he glanced at Zoraida and saw her expression. He was glad he changed the subject. He accepted her superficial answer, noting the quick change of tone. "Agelessness is a big plus there," he agreed with an enthusiastic nod.

Kalvin glanced at the claiming area at the counter where their orders just got placed. "There go our coffee and sweets," he said, diverting the conversation. He stood up just as the barista called for them. He took the coffee and offered to carry the pastries for Zoraida. "Shall we take these back to the office first?"

Glancing at the barista when they called out their order, Zoraida felt a moment's relief and ver grateful for timely the interruption.

"Yes, let's take the coffees and pastries back to the office so the coffee doesn't get cold," she quickly agreed as she got to her feet, letting Kalvin carry back their order.

Once outside on the sidewalk and heading back to the office, Zora smiled at Kalvin pleasantly, grateful for his discretion and for not digging further. She could see why her grandfather talked so highly of his assistant.

"So, I never did ask, but what are your powers?" she asked with genuine curiosity.
